  1. I'm on the 9.57 to chesterfield, and mark scoltock is on the 10.57 train.

We're all on the 19.41 train coming back.

May (or may not) be moving that weekend. Either way I'd like to do it! I'll let you know
  2. It sounds like everything is good to go in the traditional way.

Agreed. I'm meeting expectations by not knowing when or where to meet and giving myself too much to do tomorrow morning which means that I will be late for the unknown meeting point at an unknown time.

  3. I want to do the 24hrs option of last man standing roll in at 9pm with kebab in hand an fall asleep at 10 on the couch.

Lightweight. Zorro and JSS are only beginning to fall asleep whilst out and about at that time

  4. Do you seriously believe anyone is going to set their alarm clock an hour earlier on a Saturday morning on the basis that you might happen to rock up on time and meet us on an early train?

I just thought Mark was letting us know he'll now almost certainly be on the 1230

  5. Meet at the Liverpool Street Spoons (next to the Bishopgate entrance) from about 11 and get the train at about 12.30. Drink four cans of Green Lager on the train.

Go way over the top with booze at the Bricklayers because of the excitement.

Arrive at the game about 3.05.

Leave for half time at about 3.43 and go even further over the top on booze in the concourse.

Arrive back in seats at about 4.10. Roar the Mighty Blues to victory till about 4.50.

Get the bus back to the Bricklayers.

Go to Asda for the picnic for the train home. Three loaves of tiger bread plus scotch eggs, sausage rolls, chicken skewers and anything else that's useful in a food fight.

Pub at Liverpool Street for the survivors.

    Don't forget the hummus...

  6.

Is he a bit handy, then? I might have to get my arse over to Stratford one Thursday, it'll be like the Harlem Globetrotters if they were fat, white blokes from northern England.

Last night we managed to wear fluorescent yellow bibs with a black trim. Great coincidence (not irony - don't want to fall foul of the grammatical pedants!)

  7.

Can you refrain from posting on this thread... this is for people who are actually going, people like Ryan!

Hang on. He's not actually turned up yet. Knowing him, he'll pretend to have a baby a couple of days before and "not be able to make it"

PC on the other hand should bring his boots after his performance last night

  8. Too keen for me but have a couple of green ones outside the Moon and I'll be along a bit later. Train about 12.30 maybe?

Works for me. Don't forget 3/4 for 2. Normally cheaper than the old advance tickets. Maybe meet at the Moon around midday and sort trains between the 'numbers' (there'll be 5 or 9 of us and it'll be a total ball ache)

  9. 5-aside - I would be up for that. I'm happy to organise it.

Watching Cricket - I can't really afford a day off as I've not many days left to take and will need some for the Christmas run-in. Because of this, I'm happy to organise and buy tickets to a 20/20 game for everyone. Let me check the calendar at the Oval.

Playing Cricket - we've our first crack at an indoor nets game with work in a couple of weeks. I'll check out the facilities and if so organise a day out there also.

Man, I love being organised. Even more than I love Zorro.

    Fixed it for you

  10. The idea generally is ridiculous. The lower league structure here is probably the best in the world. We have over 92 professional clubs and I can only see this being hurt by having B teams. The good young players in the top clubs already play at our level or above through the loan system. Creating these B teams means this is less likely to happen and will have a significant impact on the game in the lower leagues.

The issue I have though is more with the xenophobic nonsense of foreign players ruininng our national team that drives people to solve problems that simply dont exist. I think we all accept that the England team is in a transitionary period. However, the stat quoted yesterday was that there were 32% of starting births in the Premier League given to players eligible to play for England in 2012-13 compared to 69% 20 years previously. Forgive me, but can someone please remind what all these players elgible to play for England were doing in the Summer of 1994 whilst the football world was playing in the USA? Can anyone compare that to what the 32% will be doing in the Summer of 2014? I know which cohort I'd rather be in...

The fact is that English football has never really competed on an international stage. We won the World Cup once, in our own back yard. Outside of that we've made the Semi Finals once and it was a huge surprise and a gigantic effort from Bobby Robson and his team. After that, the best we have ever achieved is the Quarter Finals. This still means we are in the top 8 in the world. It can also be argued that the timing is pretty poor as, despite being in a transitionary period, the future for England looks bright right now with Rooney still around for a few more years, Walcott, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Wilshere, Sterling, Sturridge, Barklay, Henderson, Finnegan, Stones, Lallana, Rodriguez, Luke Shaw and Joe Hart still probably having 8-10 years left at the top to name those who come to mind off the top of my head.

Attracting all these "foreigners" means we have the most commercial and, what is generally acknowledged as, the most exciting league in the world. It attracts huge amounts of investment and is probably one of our biggest exports. If we want to improve the national side, embrace it. Attract more investment. Then ensure that these large sums of investment are used correctly - to improve the grass roots of the game and improve the facilities and coaching of the next generation not syphoned out of the game through huge wages, agents fees and leveraged buy outs. Don't ruin the very fabric of the game.
