  1. As the news came in on Sunday of Big Joe stepping in to the breach once again my mind was working a mile a minute like many Oldham supporters. Due to this I had dream on Sunday night about the Tranmere game with Joe in charge so here we go-

Boundry Park was full (but it 4 stands not 3!) on a beautiful sunny day. Some good football saw us 3-0 up in the first 20 mins and we went on to win 4-0. Can't for the life of me remember the team apart from Sean Gregan and........John Eyre!?!

Just wondering if anyone else has had any Oldham inspired dreams since Joes Appointment?

i haven this week had a dream but every season i have a dream of latics in the play offs......

this season my dream was around 3 weeks back.. the fa stopped the football season in every league in england because they said oldham athletic were too good..

we played blackpool in the play off semi finals but they were instructed to stand still by the fa while we scored as many goals as possible and we won around 30 nil......

in the play off final we played leeds united tho there was no ball.. all latics had to do to win was to kick off and for dean windass to run up to the spot where he scored for hull city in the championship play off final last season............ and do a poo.. he obliged and i actually thought it was real =D

  2. Im really looking forward to an Oldham home game for the first time in a long time!

It feels like there is some optimism back amongst the fans and the negativity which has been surrounding the club for god knows how long finally lifting :D

However, I do not think we should expect we will suddenly become world beaters, and i was amazed that in a poll on here many have predicted a big win! While quite rightly so as manager Shez had to take the blame for poor performances and dropping out of the play offs, some blame has to rest with the players as well, and you also have to question the ability of some to actually step up and give us promotion!

I am not saying this to put a dampener on Saturday, I say it because I dont want the new found optimism to disintegrate at 5pm on saturday if we lose or do not make it in to the play offs at the end of the season. Joe Royle coming in has been like a breath of fresh air, I really hope that win lose or draw on saturday the new found optimism will continue. Because if we lose and its a return to the Boos and negativity etc, I will personally be more disapointed than ever before!

    i very much agree

  3. Most comments on here regarding the return of Big Joe refer back to the glory days but I'd be really interested to hear what the youngsters make about us bringing him back

I'm so excited but that's because I can remember back to Wembley and the Prem.

Those who never got to winess those halcyon days should be able to be more objective. Are they still as excited as the rest of us?

i am soo fed up with what has happened. the fact joe royle is our manager to the end of this season seems to me that latics have made a panic reaction and i cant really understand why we have sacked john sheridan. i know joe royle is a club legend tho i have been told his tactics involve a lot of long passes and this is something i dont like

  4. course we're going to win, it's my birthday tomorrow, they normally win the weekend of my birthday most notably Bolton 1994, Wolves 1997, Man City 1999, Bradford 2006 Doncaster 2007

that is five times from 23

..i think we are going to lose tomorrow cus of what has happened and i think we are going to find it difficult to finish in a play off place

  5. You are joking arent you, I dont think I have ever begged for Neal Eardley to come on the pitch, but yesterday Seb Hines proved he is not a footballer. How on earth he has signed a contract for that long with Boro Ill never know. His tacking is ok but his ability on the ball is terrible. Also Dean Windass is nto worth anything like the money he is getting from us and Craig Davies could do just as good a job as Windass has done and probably have got himself more goalscoring chances.

I agree with everything the original post says.

1 more point, did anyone else wonder why andy liddell didnt shoot in the last minute and instead hooked it over his head.

again it seems to me you are jealous and how do you know the money dean windass receives anyway? if you are a calculated person you cant judge a player after 2 games, even dean windass after the small number he has played for us. comments suggesting that seb hines is not a footballer lose this debate for you and it seems that you dont like neal eardley too much which is a comment with which i cannot comprehend

  6. He's played 8 games on the trot and he will be as fit now as he is ever going to be...Yes,his fitness is very good, but for a forty year old.

He's been hauled off nearly every game and that is down to tiredness nothing else....He's a very good player but his age is letting him down and there's no way he will be effective in the championship.

A luxury we could do without....meaning perhaps the money would be best spent elswhere!

i agree that money could be spent well in the centre of midfield but dean windass was very effective in the championship last season and i very much doubt that his ability to be effective has changed much since then. imo he is one of the most effective players for latics. if you read his autobiography you will understand what i mean about his fitness

  7. Are we happy to have Windass or is he a luxury we could do without?

Not enough quality in the final third today, 3 shots in 90 Minutes with only 1 on target is really not good enough for a team looking for promotion.

I don't think Windass has finished a game yet...Would it not be better to start him on the bench and bring him on fresh in the second half.

From what I've seen so far.....IF we are promoted, he won't be fit enough for the Championship and I'd be a little reluctant to give him a contract if we don't!!!!

    Opinions anybody!!

how could you say he wouldnt be fit enough? if you knew much about dean windass you would know that his fitness is generally very good and the reason it isnt right now is that he has only played a number of games for latics. also how can you have a luxury you could do without?

  8. Pretty poor performance.

Pitch wasn't great, cut up quite a bit. Plus it was pretty windy.

Smalley took his goal very well. Awful defending for their first goal. Silly free kick given away by Taylor and then their man had a free header 6 yards out. Nothing Flem could do. Second goal was awful. Imagine Millwall at home first game!!! Fleming appeared to shout for Rubes to leave it, but rubes knocked it passed him for their man to knock it in to an open goal. Our second was lucky. Long ball from the back Terrible Forbes tried to head it back to the goalie but got too much on it. Cracking finish!!!

    Plus points....

Smalley looked good in patches and finished his chance well. Should have had a second though which he smashed on to the bar.

    Maher looked strong in midfield

    Negatives....

    Windass old, slow, not interested.

Hines - Awful. If I were Eardley or Lomax I'd be asking Shez all the way back how he gets in the starting XI over them.

Hughes - tried for about 10 mins

Taylor not in the game again!!!

    No striker on the bench

    Overall. Point a fair result.

your negatives suggest to me you consider effort to be the most important attribute and firstly this isnt true and anyone who has a good knowledge of football knows that players always try as hard as they can. you also seem to have no patience with your view of seb hines, he has played two games for us and in one he played very well but you think other players should be asking john sheridan why he is playing instead of them. laughable.

  9. I honestly thought that when Windass came he would be the perfect foil for hughes, but after seeing yet another inept performance by our strikers (I thought we ad a lot of good possesion inthe second half, with very little movement up front other than Smalley) - I just can help but think Hughes and Deano just isnt going to work..

Hughes just seems to have lost that sharpness and yard of pace, whether that is age, form, disinterest, whatever - I dont know, however what is for certain is that Windass needs someone with pace next to him... that aint hughesy at the moment... they are too similar, too statitc, and yesterday I'm sure th yeovil centre backs had one of thier easiest games of the season...

Windass offers notthing next to hughes IMO, they do the same things, and I'd play hughesy ahead of Dean as he offers more threat... but you need someone with pace next to him. At the moment, although harsh on Lewi - I have to say for me that is Dean Smalley, with Fabio and DJ coming back we should have enough options ont he wing... and arguably Deane Smalley is our in form striker - and starting to look powerful, fast and strong, and much better in the air than Lewi...

For me, its Smalley and Hughes Up-front, with two of Tayls, Fabio and DJ on the wings....

As for Windass, I'd play lewi in front of him... I'm sorry, but I have seen absolutely nothing to justify him being in our side. We may need his experience, but he just isnt standing up to the pace of League 1 football, and the fact you dont get perfect balls passed into you all the time. His touch and movement yesterday was quite frankly... shocking.

i dont agree with this because i think dean windass can play in the premier league and i have seen reasons to justify him in our side and i think the best example of this would be his play against stockport county. also i cant understand why you would think that dean windass and lee hughes are too similar a player. dean windass likes to play deep mostly and this makes space for lee hughes to move into, which is one of the most important parts to lee hughes game. also how can you say we should play fabio ferreira when hasnt played for us before? also deane smalley is most effective as a wide player
