Are any of those in the know ready to say if there is a replacement for smalley on the way to BP?
-
He staked a good claim for a permanent place in our starting 11 on monday, I can't see shez letting him go.
-
I saw it as a tactical sub. Bring on some fresh legs to take the pressure off us a little. I like Davies as a player but I just don't think he's a ruthless finisher like Hughes.
Give hughes one clear cut chance in a game and you can bet on him scoring it. Less so with Davies IMO.
-
I think Tays is improving all the time, he'll be ready to play championship football soon and possibly premiership football at his peak.
-
Craig Davies came on. Hughes goal was lucky from bad defending and Smalleys was a wonder goal. Besides the Danny Whit header and a free kick from Windass we didnt really look like adding until Davies showed his pace. I think hes our answer at home matches. think Dean Smalley showed Shez what hes been missing as well and Chris Taylor is the worst player at the club at the minute. Thought Eardley was gash and got beat every time and Kelvin Lomax has got a 50p head and a worse foot. Great Result though so all my moaning should be disregarded.
You must be f***ing cross eyed pal.
-
Dean Windass just on sky sports news saying we have offered him a contract for next season.
He said he wants to carry on playing as long as he feels fit.
Hopefully we'll sign him full-time in the summer - I doubt it'll be more than a season contract though.
Great news. He's a very intelligent footballer and his hold up play & first touch were superb today.
-
The thing is, he makes errors, but they are very rarely defensive errors. He's solid at the back, his passing might be crap but if he had a better cross then he really wouldn't be playing for us.
Neal, solid at the back as ever.....more than I can say about Lomax, who these Eardley boo boys think is 100x better than Neal when that's really not the case. Lomax does make defensive errors, quite a lot, but doesn't get punished for them.
I thought Eards had a decent game today, he looked dangerous going forward in the 1st half. I think he was let down by smalley in the 2nd half whose concentration went out of the window in the latter stages.
-
wont work, hughes is too slow for the double job he would be doing there.
flemming
eardley stam ruuuuuuuuuuuuuubes lomax
lee maher whittaker taylor
hughes davies
bench
windass
deano
greegs
liddell
stephens
I don't know how anyone could pick Stam over Gregan after the Huddersfield game.
-
no offense taken, i think he will too!
does anybody know how windass is for pace though?
i cannot wait to see a hughes and windass partnership up front, two experienced and brutish goal scorers.
-
i agree mate. the number of times wellens went missing during games seems to have been overlooked by some.
on his day he was a fantastic player but i think we only saw that every one in five games.
-
Fitz Hall
Crofty
Sheridan
with Eyres just behind...
Hopefully Windass will knock one of these contenders out of the running with a hatrick tomorrow night
-
Byfield did nothing today, i dont think ive seen him win a 50/50 ball in the air since he's been here and he is dispossessed with ease. Davies must start the next game.
I thought Whittaker looked dangerous on the ball today and was willing to take people on.
Eards had a good game.
Lomax was lost at sea against Danny Cadamarteri.
I think we did ok against a form team.
-
Let them have mental ... I'll take Byfield over him any day.
-
lomax's distribution was nothing short of diabolical yesterday.
-
I have to agree with the FA cup comment, the chances of getting on TV are slim, so why do we have to sell players?
I get the impression alot of this player sale talk has been whipped up by fans and newspapers, we're bound to get offers when our players are doing well but we dont have to accept them.
In the case of Hughes, theres no reason why he can't stay until the end of the season and see if we get promoted, if not he can talk to clubs and go for free.
I can see him staying.
-
What is the financial value of promotion (roughly speaking) and how does it vary with 1st, 2nd, and playoffs?
-
Look at the bigger picture
We sell for 400k we can pocket some of that, and spend some on a replacement who fair enough, might not be as good as hughes, but easilly good enough for this level.
Or we lose him for nothing in june, and dont properly replace him.
We are a club losing 15k a week, everyone wants success but we cant go back to the M**** days and try to buy success with money we havent got,
Id risk losing him for nothing in June and look forward to watching Championship football at Boundary Park!
That way we're in a better position to keep Lee Hughes in any case because we can afford to pay him more money and offer a higher standard of football.
£400k now or higher revenues in the Champ?
-
Don't sell any of our 1st 11, we need promotion.
-
I dont know if a move would be good for him or us right now. Hes in the form of his life and has the chance to get to the championship with us, a move would unsettle him and would have a bad effect on the team too.
Promotion is worth more than any realistic price we would get for Tays in Jan, so lets keep him and if we dont go up let him move on in the summer if thats what he wants.
I
m sure he'd want the chance to become a club legend and get us promoted this season.
-
Crucial interceptions, good positioning.
Im not one of Lomax's biggest fans but i thought he did ok today, i dont know about 'shocking'... He'd be 1st choice right back for quite a few teams in this league if it wasn't for Eardley being in our squad. He's got to work on his attacking play, the modern full back has got to have the confidence to overlap.
-
if he was playing left wing, not being able to defend mught not matter as much. Unfortunatly, it's a fairly big part of being a full back.....
his crosses were f'ing class tonight. credit to hughes for putting them both away, not easy chances at all.
-
My car along with about 7 others all have been broken into tonight. Parked in a line on Westhulme Avenue... side windows and trashed inside - windscreen bricked as well. Nowt anybody can do unless the Police decide to protect private property.
Just beware everybody, the local natives are on the rampage.
We had our car window smashed and radio nicked last tuesday where all the cars are parked near B&Q, best to use the club car park.
-
Our promotion hopes would be severely detented if we let Chris go, we've got the bite the bullet and get into the Championship this year, and im sure Taylor wants to help us get there.
There are greater long term gains to be had by keeping him.
-
We've had many players who have impressed on their debut, or until getting a contract, and then have mysteriously lost that early promise. I hope he is a rare exception.
Reeves!!!
Problem down the right!

I dont think he'll face a better left mid than Cadamarteri all season.
Hereford can't score, we've got a pretty solid defence, we need to come home with three points on saturday.
