  1. Although I was younger, and relatively naive football-wise, and having only caught him in his latter years, I must admit I never rated Oooo Roger Palmer. I always thought the chant was better than the player!
  2. That would be very funny if it weren't so close to the bone!
  3. Can't we get Leeds to pay up 50% of our losses by any chance?
  4. Good question, there does seem to be a fair faction on here that still think he was a potential world-beater. I think it's clear though he has his mental/attitude problems and I wouldn't be surprised to see him being targetted for some abuse, and ending up doing something very regrettable. Probably like scoring a hat-trick against us!
  5. There's been many a game that's seen me sat huddled at Ice Station Zebra. Not sure they count though!
  6. Am not sure if you are commenting on the delusions of some of our support, or my dreadful typo (now corrected), but if the former, then yes, some people really do need to wake up and smell the coffee sometimes or if the latter then Are you following my posts around, and now my personal proof reader?
  7. Yes, great performances for the last couple of weeks now, though I just wish he had a tiny bit more pace, and he would be something else.
  8. Unfortunately true, but Sheehan just helped us take three points from a team they WOULD consider a rival this season, so a very good point really.
  9. The problem is, there are going to be some poor performances to come (we're not Premier League any more!), and we, as fans, have got to realise that, and help to avoid turning one poor performance into a poor run, cos it all just tends to spiral out of control once the crowd gets hostile.
  10. I wouldn't like to claim we are any better as fans than anyone else! lol Having said that, though this may be the wrong thread, I don't think they were particularly dirty as a whole. Yes, there were some meaty challenges early on, but in this division that is part of the battle at the start of a game, where you earn the right to play your football. And we did exactly that.

    MOTM Vs. MK Dons

Furman pipped it for me just ahead of Abbott, but yes, 11 great performances tonight, and a well deserved victory from a game, even at one up, I would have been happy to take a point from. As far as Parker goes though, I think he is just lacking half a yard of pace to be really devestating, but as you say, the finish was true class, and well done to him. I've been saying he's been working his socks off since the Carlisle game and fully deserves his goals.
  12. Definitely, and Penney's Programme Notes last night said he is talking to Leeds to try and sort that out, don't think I have seen that reported elsewhere.
  13. Just wait till everyone finds out, and it will soon slow down! Enjoy it whilst it lasts!
  14. From what I could see, it was Lewington, the captain, that got the yellow card as Ince was arriving. He had already been giving the ref verbals from the whistle. Then as they approached the line, Ince got sent to the stand. As far as I know, you can't give a coach a Yellow Card.
  15. Got to agree with that, Whittaker wasn't played in a central midfield position, and his contributions today were well worth his place in the team. I thought it was his best game for a long while.

    MOTM Vs. Carlisle

Dean Brill Played well, and did all asked of him, especially a fine reaction save from Sheehan, he can't have expected that! Probably underworked to be MoM Reuben Hazell Had his usual raft of Keystone cops moments, but generally ok in between Danny Whitaker A good game from the ghost, solid in midfield and always a danger going forward Pawel Abbott Pretty much all that was sent his way stuck, and was calm in defense too, playing out Kelvin Lomax A fine performance from Kelvin. Apart from from an early mistake, hardly put a foot wrong. My Man of the Match Dean Furman Hard working, and good passing, some neat touches Sean Gregan A couple of errors but nothing catastrophic, won most of what came his way Keigan Parker Worked hard closing down in the first half, but not really involved in out attacking play. Second half, more involved, deserved his goal, but tired, good move replacing him. Chris Taylor Didn't really look to be at the races, was surprised he wasn't given a rest when Parker was, but some good dribbling runs Joe Colbeck Worked hard, got involved but unspectacular Alan Sheehan Would be my MoM but for his headed attempt to level the scores, but otherwise an excellent display. Kieran Lee Some good touches, but not really on long enough to properly influence the game Ryan Brooke Hardly got to touch the ball Overall, thought it was a good display, though I think we could have really pressed home our adavantage; it seemed to me that Carlisle were ready to crumble.
  17. Best away goal has got to be Brian Kilcline at Leeds.......if only it had been into their goal!
  18. The thing that lots seem to forget is that Oldham and Failsworth are both in Greater MANCHESTER. One of the reasons why lots of Oldhamers (especially of a certain age range) have an unashamed affinity for the Manchester clubs.
  19. Some good points there. The problem is that you can't simply dump someone who is in contract without paying it up. For all we know, Rochdale may be paying part or all of O' Grady's wages, and may actually be taking him with a view to buying him, or taking him off our hands or whatever. Unfortunately when you have players who you don't want but are still in contract, you have find someone to take them off you, or you may as well keep them. Personally, I don't think O'Grady has been given a fair crack of the whip, as for Allesandra, I think he has some maturing to do yet. And why Stephens can't get any time on the pitch I really don't know. As for Blackman and :censored:, especially Blackman I think is well worth keeping, he looked really good. But what would we have said if we had got hime till XMas and beyond, and then he turned out to be useless, like that Boro centre-half whatever he was called. Get em in for a month, see if they gel, and then sign up for longer if you like, I say. Hopefully the Development Squad though, not to mentionthe Reserves, will help with some of the above. But yes, great point about builidng a squad. We all, manager, fans and board have got to be patient with this. And trust in Penney.
  20. The question was "Did Bolton need a Jack Walker?" And the answer quite simply is yes, they did. He's not just a major investor, but a saviour of the club. Just because he has less money than Jack Walker doesn't lessen the fact that without him Bolton were doomed. Similar to us in fact. "He probably wouldn't have invested if the club hadn't done significant groundwork and got themselves into a worthwhile position in the first place" Where did this nugget come from, and what facts is it based upon. My understanding of the facts is that Davies (personally and via his company Strix) has been saving Bolton from financially ruin since 1999, only two years after the Reebok stadium was built, and strangely enough whilst Bolton were in the Premier League. The fact that Bolton have prospered has nothing much to do with them building a good sized stadium, more the opposite in fact, and more the case of a certain mister Allardyce, and the aforementioned fan-come-good Mr Davies. The truth is that building the Reebok, so nearly sent Bolton into oblivion given the debt they ended up saddled with. I could go on, but there's not much point really......
  21. Whoa, steady on there!! £52M debt does not mean they are losing that much, that is just how much they owe banks etc. Just as we owe for houses, cars etc, doesn't mean we are insolvent. The losses were £8.4M for that particular year, and that could be due to an exceptional outlay or whatever. There is nothing in there to say they are losing money. In fact, the fact that Wages as proportion of turnover is only 66% is relatively healthy. What to me is more interesting to me is that out of Turnover of near £60M, only less than £7M comes from Gate Matchday Receipts, unless that doesn't include Season Tickets.
  22. Actually, yes..... "Chairman Phil Gartside has questioned whether Bolton would even be in existence without major shareholder Eddie Davies, following the club record signing of Johan Elmander." Gartside hails lifesaver Davies Millionaire Fan buys control of Bolton .... yadder yadder
  23. Just 10 5-a-side pitches at £40 per hour at say four sessions per day/night at conservatively 20days per month would amount to £32k per month in rental alone. I have no idea what other facilities are planned but it would seem that there is definitely scope for making money from a new development.
