  1. As long as they come back for the next game at home, does it really matter?
  2. Could a picture ID with each ST possibly help? As long as the ticket is not reported lost or stolen, it doesnt matter if you lend it to somebody for a game as it's not flagged up. Checking a picture at the turnstile will be a lot quicker than checking a reference number.
  3. Back when I was living close to BP, I was broken in to one night and the thieves got away with a fair bit of stuff, including my season ticket. I did at the time write to the club and see if there was anything they could do, well of course they cant do anything other than sympathise with you. I was at the time a bit miffed because they wouldnt do anything, but on hindsight, there isnt really much they can do. They cant check each indiviual ST stubb as it's handed over, that would create an unecessary wait for ST holders getting in to the ground, bearing in mind there is no guarantee that your thief with the ticket will show up. Best way forward for everyone would be to insure your tickets. The way forward to combat stolen tickets is to move over to an electronic system, but until we've re-developed BP I dont see that happening.
  4. Well if you're going to try and persuade him to play a friendly in Germany, add a game against Munich 1860 to the list.
  5. Ebbsfleet United has over 30K members, so just in annual membership fees alone they raise over a million. If Latics had 30K fans, we wouldnt need threads like this.
  6. I think we'll break the 5K barrier, but wont get above 5.5K.
  7. Here is a link people should try. www.therewasneveralinkhereandshouldneverhavebeenalinkhere.com
  8. But they've won this in a league where everyone else feels they should not have been given the oppportunity to start from. I cant help but wonder, would all the MK dons fans have supported his team if they were playing in the Blue Square South league? For me supporting Oldham is in my blood for life and if back in the dark times had we had gone to the wall and we were playing as AFC Oldham from the very bottom league, I know I'd still be a supporter. I'm Oldham till I die.
  9. I'd agree on the villain tag, although the heart and soul of Wimbledon was already dead, he just exploited a league loophole that allowed him to transplant the team. We all cherish the league(s) we've been part of for the last 100+ years and we're proud of how it's set up in a fair way so that all teams have the chance to progress if they're capable. MK Dons skipped all that and even in their first few years of existence still listed the FA Cup in 88 as one of their honours until fairly recently I for one look forward to the day when AFC Wimbledon rise to the ranks of league football once more. Yard Dog said in his post that they didnt deserve a team, but at the end of the day, they probably still are the greatest fairytale football team ever to exist(Non league to FA Cup winner in how many years?). Their achievements are exactly what we want(again) and most of the other lower league teams who struggle and work hard to attain.
  10. It will be disappointing to say the least, I'm all for a 'respect' campaign, but when referee's have a game like Hall did on Saturday it's easy to see why respect goes out of the window.
  11. How close was the ball to hitting the linesman? From what I heard on LW it was close enough? The highlights only show him kicking the ball, either way, I'm sure that has to be a straight red. btw, I for one and maybe I'm the only one, would like to hear more Brazilian goooooooooaaaaaaaaal celebrations from the commentators, I was laughing for quite a while at that!
  12. I'm a member of a forum here in Germany called Toytown Germany. It used to be called Toytownmunich* until fairly recently when it merged with a forum based in northern Germany called Britboard.de. In the very beginning there was a fair amount of opposition to the merge because the forum was very Munich orientated as thre is a bigger expat crowd living here, eventually though most have gotten used to the new set up and things run as smoothly as they can do. *Why Toytown? - The name came from the observation that Munich is not a real town. Real towns have litter, crime, visible poverty, heroin addicts lurking at the railway station, vomit on the pavements, and so on. Munich has none of this. Munich is not real. It's an ideological town where everything is perfect. The environment is clean, crime is very low, and the public transport runs on time to the second. In general, the quality of life here is very high. I can tell you now that a week wont go by where someone will post about how unfriendly they find other members, or that they dont feel part of the crowd. I myself committed the cardinal newbie sin of not searching properly before I did my first post and incurred the wrath of danoafc, I actually laughed about it's usually a daily occurance on TT and as it's exactly the same software, it's a mistake I shouldnt have made. I dont and never have felt unwelcome here and I dont know a single person. In the main Latics news bit, I see people asking for lifts or where they'll be meeting at away games. Hell, on the off chance I get over I wouldnt mind meeting up for a few drinks before a game. I'm grateful for this site, cos after 5 years of living in Germany, I actually feel like BP is not far away from me anymore. But I do have a few gripes.... 1) People replying in some threads will copy the entire OP's post, even though it's the next response in line. Copying and posting this much text is unnecessary as its just more sscreen to scroll through, especially if someone has posted that nights Chronicle article. The not only does the 2nd poster do, but the 3rd, 6th etc, etc, etc. 2) On the point of posting full artciles from the Chron, or any other official news source. This is something the mods should look in to. Isn't there a limit on the number of words you can copy from an article? I raise the issue because we have a limit on TT, we cannot post the whole article, just a paragraph or so including a link to the orginal article. A few years back, our forum owner was hit with a 380€(285quid or so) fine because one forum user ilegally but not knowingly used a map image. I'd hate to see the guys here in a similar fix.
  13. Possibly walking in to a soon to be vacant Newcastle job?
  14. I guess what I'm saying is that they have a 2 tier main league, their third is like our conference league. We have a 4 tier league plus conference.
  15. I'll go for the Colts this year, although as a Bears fan myself I would love them to do something but a distinct lack of a quality QB and now RB, its going to be a season where they rely on their defense a LOT! My rant about NFL is that I'm miffed off there is another game at Wembley this year, this is another example of money talking. The UK does not have an official American Football side anymore, in fact the majority of European teams are based in Germany and it would be the right and fair thing to stage a game here, preferably Munich of course!....grumble....grumble...grumble On a side note, I wonder how many of the people attending the NFL match at Wembley are followers of a Premiership team and are dead against a 39th game abroad idea. I wonder if they see the irony in it all?
  16. According to Soccerbase October 2nd, 1973 - Oldham 0 Brighton 1
  17. There is nothing we can do to stop these inflated fees, the Ronaldo fee is just trash talk, there is no way on earth they'll sell him to City, United fans would rather see him at Madrid first. All these fees has lead to inflated wages and we see the effect to the point where we cant afford to bring players in. We have to keep hanging on to the Premier Leagues tail because we need every penny of the pittance they allow us. I certainly believe that we have to be in the Championship soon, as the day will come where they(PL) will want to restrict promotion from league 1, you look at the other major European footballing countries, they only have two tier leagues.
  18. I bumped in to Michael Ballack on a flight to London recently, nice bloke....for a german!
  19. I met Andy Ritchie & Andy Barlow at the Hare & Hounds in Middleton one night, there again that was a planned visit for them, still nice blokes though. I used to work for a fruit & veg shop in Middleton, we'd get Gary Hoolichan dropping in every other week. I then worked for our Sale branch and had Roger Palmer as a regular - top bloke, always had time to chat to us. I met John Keeley at the ground, said hello to me, I didnt realise who he was at the time. I also worked out at Nevada Bob's golf shop for a while and that always had players dropping in, one morning Rick Holden was in(City player then), but I spoke to him for a while. Ryan Giggs was also in and I actually thought he was a shoplifter at the time!! but a nice bloke who spent a load of cash on some clubs that I now realise were absolute crap, sorry Ryan!. I know David May from his days at Blackburn and Man U, he got me tickets for Blackburn v Oldham and even got the Latics teams to sign my Wembley program, which I was well chuffed about at the time. I never saw him play for Man U, I would never go, but my sister took my younger brother to a few games at Old Trafford, had his pictures took with Cantona, Scmheicel etc. Though there was one player that Dave told my sister never to ask anything for and that was Roy Keane.
  20. My dad is a Man U fan and as a kid I meithered and meithered him to take me to a game, he never did. Then one morning at school a mate was talking about Oldham playing against Southampton in some cup competition at home and it was pay on the night, I went along to that and have never got off the bandwagon which was rolling around at the time. This wasnt my first Oldham game, I do remember being given a free ticket (Crystal Palace, when they had the diagonal stripe on their shirt) when I was at school, but I was way too young to pay attention to a game for 90 minutes. I think the question should be aimed at those who can afford to go, but would rather have 10 pints, or spend the money on something else that is not important. For me supporting Latics is going even when we are tripe, if I'm lucky I'll get to a couple of games a season. Price is certainly a factor, especially coupled with the credit crunch, I would say a lot of people cannot afford to go to every home game now. The TTA are stuck between a rock and a hard place on this issue, there is no evidence that an extra 1000 fans will show up if they reduced the costs. The Premiership also has a lot to answer for, money is pouring in to that league, but only trickling down to our level. Back in the day, it was the directors pockets that were being lined, but at least the fans were not priced out of the game. Nowadays it's flying straight in to the pockets of players and the ordinary fan is being hit the hardest for it. It's my biggest gripe about top tier football.
  21. I go to whatever games I can catch when I'm over, last season I got the Notts Forest & Walsall games over Christmas! First time I'd ever seen Ricketts play! If you gave me a choice of either 20quids worth of beer, or go and watch Latics then to me it's a no brainer....Latics every time, regardless of who we play or how we play. The idea of a mini season ticket is a good one, especially for those who pick and choose which matches they go to, the club should consider giving this a trial run. In a perfect world, the *evil* TV companies flooding the game with all this money would set aside a chunk of it to help bring down the cost of games, as even they do not like televising a game with a half empty stadium.
  22. I'd agree that hitting up JD and local sports shops to carry our merchandise is the best bet and there is no reason why some of the bigger shops cant have a window dedicated to Latics, it's not like we'll start pinching fans from City & the scum is it? Hell, even if we did I dont think they'd notice. Opening a shop wouldnt be viable, we've done it before when we were getting 10K crowds and that didnt work, so I dont see it working now.
  23. Scholes has always kept his cards close to his chest, so I dont read too much in to this. Personally I'd say that if we were to go up this year that he'd definitely consider dropping down to the Championship to play for us. Though the question is, would Shez want him?
  24. Speaking of kits, have we got the new/fixed away shirts back in stock yet?
