On April 25th 2010, Chaddy the Owl will set off on a 26 and a bit mile run to support the Stroke Association. Training for Chaddy will start in earnest at the end of October and he will be seen weekly on the treadmill of his local gym. For reasons that are obvious to most Latics fans he will be avoiding the exercise bikes!
Chaddy will be helped on his run by Oldham Athletic Community Trust’s Manager, Colin Moore, who has agreed to be our favourite Owl for the day!
Chaddy and Colin are looking forward to the challenge and really hope you can support them raise funds for an extremely worthy cause!
Background
The North West has the highest mortality rates from stroke in the UK, with Oldham having one of the highest mortality rates in the whole of Greater Manchester. We want to reduce this inequality in Oldham and across Greater Manchester.
Each year approximately 150 Oldham residents die from a stroke and there are over 4150 people living in the Oldham’s with the after effects of stroke. However, there are things people can do to reduce the risk of stroke, for example it is estimated that if everyone with high blood pressure in Oldham were identified and treated appropriately, 163 strokes per year would be prevented.
