  1. I'm more worried that he's such a big Ted Heath fan!
  2. I did. Although we may have left before he took up his position - memories aren't that clear!
  3. He certainly is. Often seen hanging around Asda. Strangely, I don't recall seeing him in the Baum last Friday...
  4. "24! Stupid bus!" He's an old man nowadays... Another? No, but she might well know him or where he is now.
  5. I remember him well! Don't know what happened to him, but I know somebody who might...
  6. Interview is up on the official site now. Inspiring as ever!
  7. Eardley for me. But in agreement with most above, I think Lomax has done a great job when he's come on. Very worthwhile having him in the squad, which is strange given that RM dumped him!
  8. Yes. The facilities at Boundary Park (as it is) are unsuitable for the modern game. And, as you say, conferences, training days, etc. are the way forward in generating revenue through the week. I'm sure that most of SC's rant was directed at the residents and councillors still opposing redevelopment. As has been said many times, lets go somewhere else if necessary, and build houses on the whole bloody lot! And see how they like that.
  9. The point is that he is out of contract. The compensation is based on the work we've put into him. It is not a transfer fee based on his market value. I know where the figure comes from now, though. The official site (based on the Chron article) says we were expecting 'at least £700,000'. The Chron quotes this as his market value, not the figure we would receive. So someone at the official site needs to be more careful when paraphrasing! The likely compo figure would be (at a guess) £50 - 100k, so I don't really understand what all the fuss is about. Although we'd obviously much rather have it than not!
  10. The FIFA transfer rules are in the document here. Of particular interest are Article 20 (page 18) and Annex 4 (page 33). The compensation may only be payable for the time until the player is 21, so we wouldn't be entitled to much. But the fact that it's to a club in a different association is of no concern. These rules are dated December 2004, so the Chris Makin situation is ancient history and appears to have no relevance. But again, I may be totally off course. I still have no idea where 'at least' £700,000 comes from.
  11. Me too. What about point 2? Could we really be entitled to 'at least' £700k in compensation? Surely that would make a mockery of Bosman, possibly making a young player unemployable.
  12. I've just read the FA's rules. Two points: 1. The rules covering compensation are FIFA's rules, and appear to apply across different Associations. 2. The 'compensation' is just that - compensation for the amount of training invested in a player. How the club think that could amount to 'at least' £700,000 is beyond me. Surely that is about his full market value? Maybe I'm way off the mark - I'm not an expert in the FA's small print. But I smell a rat here...
  13. I don't believe anybody "in the know" (i.e. TTA) wouldn't have considered this. Maybe all the talk of quitting is the forerunner to the QPR thing taking shape? Who knows?
  14. Yes, that's recently been my cue to switch from the radio to a CD. Usually following an outburst such as "What the is this rubbish?!" Hard to believe that crap like that can get to No.1....
  15. Haysi Fantayzee's biggest hit was 'Shiny' if my memory serves me right. Dion just makes me wince. I don't know just what it is about her - I'm sure she's a great singer. I just find it painful. Maybe it's her Frenchness!
  16. Maybe he thinks he's the next Thierry Henry! I wouldn't like to pass judgement on the modelling bit, but he had quite a way to go as a footballer! We'll never know.
  17. Yes, it's a shame. But if he isn't 100% committed to the club (as a professional footballer) we can do without him! I'm sure he won't find full-time modelling / acting a doddle either... How long before he's back at BP for the 'celebrity' team in a testimonial game? Seems to be compulsory for the cast of Hollyoaks!
  18. I'll have to get onto my sources to see if he's been at home. Sounds like he's on the way out though. Shame, as I STILL think he never got a fair crack at it. But if he won't put the work in, he doesn't deserve another chance.
  19. Anyway, since LL has other things on his mind ( ?) I thought I'd say that the cat is on the road to recovery. No blood on the thermometer today apparently. I've heard LL singing the praises of his new house - obviously it is much livlier than the old one, although it sounds a bit Barrymore!
  20. Of course, there are ways to remove it, so you can back up your legally purchased material. But they don't stay on the internet for too long....
  21. I don't know if it's reliable enough. I'd love to have it, and not wake up with everything a blur! But if it goes wrong, I don't think I'd like double vision for ever. I believe it's also a pretty unpleasant procedure, but I suppose the long-term gain is worth it if it's successful. Nick tells me that Sue (remember her from Saturday? ) had it done about four years ago, and says it's the best thing she ever did. So go for it if you're not a chicken like me.
  22. I didn't think 'monkey' was the term he used! And the only real disgrace after the Rochdale game was getting up and leaving. But some things just aren't worth it. Trouble is, it will be hard to affect him financially. He'll always get a big Latics crowd in before the home games.
  23. I'll second that! Another of the 'do as I say, not as I do' New Labour brigade.
