  1. Blimey, this thread's taken me right down memory lane. Ro's and Jo's, Butterflies, Over the Rainbow were the main haunts in the early days. Then Scandals (as it was over 21s for a while, I seem to remember). Anyone remember the ageing bearded geezer disco-dancer in the suit and white shirt open to the belly-button with the dodgy hairy chest who used to eye up all the much younger girls in there? And the 'Mad half hour'? I once went there dressed as a Hare Krishna after a fancy-dress do and had the sheet ripped off. Bouncers were all for chucking me out 'cos I was half naked, but fortunately some kind soul lent me their jacket, which seemed to satisfy the bouncers. Spent a lot of time and money in Dreamers too. Great place but I never worked out what the entry criteria were. You could be dressed up decently and sober as a judge and be refused, then go the following night in jeans, trainers nine or 10 pints to the good and be welcomed with open arms. There was another place further down nearer to the bus station, the name of which escapes me. Had a good few nights in there too - must have been good 'cos I can't remember the name of it. Only went to Bali Hoo once - awful. Same with Henry Afrikas. Lasted about 10 minutes in the Candlelight before doing the off. *drifts off in a haze of nostalgia*
  2. I was at that Banik Ostrava game. Didn't they have one Pavel Srnicek in goal, or is that my withering memory playing tricks on me again?
  3. That's the one, yeah. Think we hit the post a couple of times as well and Mimms made some ridiculous saves. They had two chances and took them both. The injustice still rankles.
  4. Highest: Blackburn away in the 90/91 season, I think. They beat us 2-0... there's a surprise, eh? We were doing well, obviously, so we took a fair few over. Still remember the crushing disappointment walking away from Ewood Park. Lowest: Luton midweek match a few seasons ago - both mid-table obscurity with nothing to play for. Some Luton mates of ours pointed us out in the 'crowd' to a steward and got him to pass us a cake for my mate's birthday, who I was with. Can't have been more than 50-odd in the entire away end.
  5. We're not getting anyone in today, are we? Obviously, I'm prepared to be wrong about this, but it's not gonna happen. Loans will be the way we go, which won't be good enough. Anyway, it's all about next season, innit.
  6. Grrrrrr. Effing clients. I come in this morning to find some bright spark has scheduled me in a meeting at 5.30 - that's supposed to be the time I go home. Earliest I'll be out is 6.30, which gives me nad all chance of getting down there in time for kick-off. Still, at least we ain't gonna lose 2-0 now.
  7. Oddly enough, the forecast for Gillingham isn't bad for tomorrow. No rain forecast, although I'll be taking a brolly just in case.
  8. Am mulling over going to this game as I have a free pass for the evening. Who else is going? And how are you getting there?
  9. I reckon the BBC Sport headline: "Havant may face trip to Liverpool," shows just how bad the draw was overall.
  10. I dunno. Peterborough away wouldn't have been much fun. Full house, winnable... could definitely have been worse. Edit: Pretty uninspiring fourth round draw, though. Not much in the way of cup romance.
  11. Boethius, obviously. Right, off to bed. See you in a couple of weeks, squire.
  12. No doubt about that. Speaking of which, I wonder if he was a Hot Chocolate fan...
  13. Wonder how upbeat it was...
  14. She's a mouthy little sod, not like her sister. But she's fine - perfectly health and all that. Looking forward to the Orient match - am remortgaging the house and putting it on 2-0 to them. Oh and never mind on the interview front. Summat'll happen.
  15. I agree with Derek. But then I'm a grumpy, cynical old git who's seen too many Latics disappointments as well. ;-)
  16. If you like Son of Dave, I'm reasonably sure you'll like Seasick Steve too. He plays a three-string guitar with a broken bottle and kicks all kind of aris'. Really superb stuff.
  17. I voted no. Not going to happen, is it?

    Skype?

We use it at work and it's saved us a fortune. Skypeout calls (i.e. to landlines) are way cheaper than they are using our business phone system.
  19. Mr Wallace at North Chadd used to twist your nipples and pick you up by 'em. Only happened to me once (I was being a mouthy git), but stone me, it was painful. I actually remember the pain of it to this day.
  20. Cover of the Muddy Waters track, eh? Nice. I bet Son of Dave did it justice. On a similar note, have you heard Seasick Steve? If not, I urge you to do so. If you like that sort of thing.
  21. 1. Benny Page - Turn Down The Lights 2. Steely Dan - Babylon Sisters 3. Aztec Camera - Walk Out To Winter 4. Esther Philipps - Nobody But You 5. Prince Buster - The Ten Commandments
  22. Bad day at the office. Scunny & Bristol City won. Fortunately Forest lost. Suspensions not gonna help either.
