  1. For anyone unsure please read the last 3 lines on the explanation of freedom of speech! The right to freedom of expression is recognized as a human right under Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and recognized in international human rights law in the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR). Article 19 of the ICCPR states that "[e]veryone shall have the right to hold opinions without interference" and "everyone shall have the right to freedom of expression; this right shall include freedom to seek, receive and impart information and ideas of all kinds, regardless of frontiers, either orally, in writing or in print, in the form of art, or through any other media of his choice". Article 19 goes on to say that the exercise of these rights carries "special duties and responsibilities" and may "therefore be subject to certain restrictions" when necessary "[f]or respect of the rights or reputation of others" or "[f]or the protection of national security or of public order (order public), or of public health or morals".[1][2] I'm quite sure that calling a dying man a black %&$£%£$%^ is a public order offence. Eitherway anyone with an ounce of respect for others just wouldn't say it!
  2. Are you seriously telling me to call someone a black %%%%%%%% is freedom of speech and should be accepted in society? Give over. I repeat if you racially abuse someone and you are unlucky enough that the authorities get wind of it, then it is in the hands of the law. I cannot believe that you are unable to distinguish between freedom of speech and being racially abusive.
  3. To racially abuse someone is not exercising your right to freedom of speech. It is just plain wrong and should be punished! Surely, I hope for your own good, you can see the difference!
  4. Maybe not but voicing it about someone who is on their deathbed in a very public domain is very wrong. Not sure it deserved jail time but certainly needed to be punished!!
  5. [Here is my view on the subject without reading the last 5 pages. The use of twitter (or any other social networking site) is not an excuse for making such inappropiate comments if it reaches the public domain. For example, you call your boss a :censored: to a work colleague fine. However, if it reaches the public domain and your boss disiplines you then it just plain tough luck. Racially abusing a dying man in the public domain is ,as a comparison for example, going to a funeral and saying in front of the deceased family that man was this that or the other. You just wouldn't do it. A little tact is what is required but certainly no excuse for racial abuse. There is no excuses and any attempt to defend this man's comments under the umbrella of freedom of speech is unthinkable in my eyes. However, I do feel the sentence is very harsh and the chap is being made a scapegoat!
  6. Not one to jump on the bandwagon - but that is a joke!!!
  7. I'm 34 Prozac and you are right a great age to support latics in their peak through my secondary school years. This win was made all the better because no one gave us a cat in hells chance of winning (United were top, latics 4 points adrift at the bottom). For days before, I was having to endure the taunts of united fans. I tell you though when I walked into school the next day with a biggest grin in the world on my face; not a peak from the same united fans. I also think this was the game that pretty much kick-started our successful survival bid! Have to say these years made my childhood/early teenage years all the better
  8. And the ghost of Roger Palmer appears on the sidelines and says..........
  9. ....Do not let women play a man's game. Otherwise, this it what happens
  10. ??? explain your comment. More likely the slow painful death will continue! ;)
  11. sorry just seen other thread. feel free to delete this thread.
  12. I think the guy nees to go back to what he knows best - playing footie and keeping in shape! Join a 5-aside team for the social side and running is great for giving your mind a break from the downward spiral of negative thoughts! Not saying it is the answer; but it certainly helped me!
  13. Not really enough if found guilty though is it! He'll just see that as a badge of honour.!
  14. Are you suggesting he saw an opportunity for the race bandwagon to gain momentum and took it!? Not excusing if anything was said by the way!
  15. Aye and that may have been major contributing factor towards the booing. However, as posted by diego, the booing started before that tackle.
  16. Hey mate, Can you pm me the link as well? thanks
  17. My honest opinion is IF we somehow manage to get the opening goal, then we have a chance of getting a result!
  18. If Latics, with half the reserve team, can beat Everton, and non-league Wrexham can defeat Arsenal then there is a chance we can cause an upset (e.g. a draw) of soughts! At the end of the day, it is eleven men against eleven! If you look for a similar comparison in recent times, then surely Chasetown snatching a draw against us should be encouragement enough!
  19. Question for all those who suffer from depression! Have you ever suffered from Deja vu type symptoms!? At first I though it was just a case of Deja Vu. Then I realised this was usually the trigger for feeling hot sweats then just needing to be alone and I basically just basically not really wanting/or be able to move for a few hours! This usually happens when something unpredicatble is happening or in a very stressful situation! I realise this may just be a panic attack, but this and the feeling really down usually happens in tandem! Sorry for sharing abit to much information but I don't know any of you guys and would be interested in knowing has anyone else felt these really quite frightening type of deja vue experiences!? cheers
  20. For those who suffer from depression, me included, what an articulate post on the trials and tribulations of a sufferer! It really is the worse thing in the world when you can't put your finger on why you can barely get yourself out of bed. Before, anyone says buck your ideas up! I've travelled the world, have some good close friends (which helps), and have re-trained at the age of 27 into a reasonably good profession! I'll give you an example of what can set off a depresion sufferer rather close to home for all of us. And before anyone says anything this is not a dig at the website! On numerous occasions when I've commented on here and received a reply that has got under my skin it has then sent me into a depression. To 90% of people they would just shrug it of, but to some it may just be the trigger that sends someone into that vicous circle of negative thoughts! That is it, a trigger, it can be stress at work, bullying, a women not answering a text for 3 days, whatever really. A depression sufferer distorts the truth and it just builds and builds until either you talk to someone or you hit rock bottom. I'll echo for me the most important point, in my opinion,by the poster above. If you want to help someone suffering from depression! Do not tell them to snap out of it! You will only make them feel worse! On a positive note, I would say I lead a happy life 80% of the time so I must be doing something right to combat it cheers
