  1. It was broke on the MEN first, and was worded in a manner that we were getting just a new stand, mentioning nothing about the other three, which would have been very short sighted.

Since then, the club statement and chron article seem to suggest that the other stands will be redeveloped after the new main stand.

Ahh I'm much happier now - i thought it was just the one stand - but all three are being developed over time! Great news, how can anyone be unhappy about this news!? All we have to do is stay in league one untill additional revenue streams kick in and we'll be laughing!

  2. When you look at the squad we have, it seems pretty effective and (injuries permitting) could do surprisingly well. It would be good if we could pick up this triallist, and I think we need another striker to avoid Smith being burdened with too much expectation. But, that apart, I think we're almost there with assembling our team for next season.

Din't go to the game but first 11 sounds decentish! However, not to put a dampener on things but don't most players try harder in pre-season so as to impress the gaffer. Plus injuries are going to be a huge problem for us this season with such a tread bare squad.

  3. To be perfectly honest I am not looking forward to this season in the slightest. No hope of promotion, in my opinion, a smaller squad and regardless of what PD said the quality is lacking. The very best I think we can hope for is mid-table, with afew good local derbies, and cup run! Hope I am completely wrong!

  4. I think Herman the German keeper is one of the trialists but I doubt he will be sticking around particularly as we have Cisek in place and PG can back up in an emergency.

We have another young keeper on trial from a Premier League club who is supposed to be better than the German even though he is a lot younger. I dont think he is featuring today but young with top potential seems the way forward in the keeper department.

    That would do for me.

Paul Gerrard as back-up?? 3rd choice maybe for the odd game in an emergency, but I certainly don't want him sat on the bench week in week out!

  5. I don't have many answers to your question chaps yet, I am going to grab Lee at some point,, maybe at the race night next Saturday to discuss thoroughly. Before alcohol kicks in too.

Yes I don't fancy being road kill on the eve of the season as it would really would mess things up.

Safety is paramount and Police/highway people should be informed.

TBA everyone and thanks for your offers too

How many people are taking part in the night walk? I could be tempted to join in the fun! Safety in numbers and all!

  6. There could be any number of mitigating circumstances as the why the unpacked stock couldn't be sold.

Would Comet sell you a tv that was fresh off a lorry and still on a pallet?

Like you say perhaps there was a legitamate reason for not being able to sell the product there and then. However, did the the salesperson use some people skills and 'come back in 30 minutes and we'll be set to sell', or take the customers number to let them know when stock is available so that he/she feels loved haha. The trouble is most shop workers are paid little over minimun wage so hardly a motivation to be pro-active. I guess it really boils down to the person dealing with your request.

  7. we've had it for so long, dont think that'll change with one or two nonleague players coming in

one or two league 2 players with ronnie moore almost got us relegated so be warned. I actually think this chap looks like a decent prospect I just don't want anymore risk players!

  8. wouldn't it be as much of a gamble as signing any other player. we know that good strikers turn sh!te here when they come with good reputations and those gambles havent worked. there's nothing to lose by going into non-league shopping so im glad we have done and might do again

Nothing to lose except our league one status!!!

  9. It's all about opinions. I was told by one assistant manager a player I recommended from non league would never make it in league football in a million years, however Chris Waddle didn't do too bad did he ?

On the other side of the coin I have been wrong myself many times, I thought Wes Wilkinson had a chance of stepping up !

Some you win some you lose, but when a gem comes along it's all worthwhile.

The thing that worries me with gambling on non-league players is Dave Penney almost got us relegated with league 2 players. I hope i'm wrong!

  10. This is one of my abiding memories of the game. I was stood in roughly the same place at Harry Bosch by the sound of it.

The ball was flicked up and hit Anderson (I think) on the hand and the whole of the Chaddy End and Paddock went up. I think my words were something like "HANDBALL!! REF! PENALTY!!! That's handball! F***ing Hell referee that's a f***ing penalty, are you f***ing blind?!"

I think I then glanced across to my uncle who I was stood with saying "HOW THE F**K has he not given that?! Is he f***ing blind or someth.....PEEENNNNNAAAAALLLTTTTYYY!!!" and then I nearly drowned in that mad swell of people as everybody rushed forward like we'd already scored the winner.

Due to a combination of being surrounded by 'bigger boys' and being so packed in, I struggled to actually see the goal as Redders stepped up, so as he struck the ball I watched the reaction of the players. I'll never forget the noise as it went in, and Marshy jumping up and punching the air!

I also remeber some knuckle dragger Wednesday fan swinging a punch at my uncle outside the old shop on the corner of sheepfoot lane as he came bounding down the road to meet me afterwards as we got split up in the melee!

    Happy days!

It was a blinding day mate- just watching the video again sends shivers down my spine! I'm just so very thankful that I was there to watch it in person and to have seen latics in the premiership. Who knows! We could have still been there if it wasn't for hughes's volley. I know I know fanciful thinking: but he hadn't had scored that volley and we had won the cup, and into europe, our path could have been oh so different!

  11. I remember, seconds earlier being denied a stonewall penalty, before barlow was fowled on the left side of the box by one John Sheridan (correct me if I'm wrong?). I was 12 and I just couldn't watch the pen -- so I buried my head on my brother's shoulder. That is right the biggest moment in latics history and I didn't have the bollocks to watch

I can't believe it is 20 years ago now
