  1. My point is simple, those who have questions might like to seek answers from the horse's mouth. 'U' turns may follow as circumstances change, but it's got to be better than worrying about what the third cousin of the assistant groundsman might have said to someone's friend in a bus queue.

haha when you put it like that you really can't argue your point!!

  2. There was something interesting going on in the 2002/2003 season, but the average league attendance was less than 7,000.

TTA saved the Club and asked for attendances of over 8,000. I thought they were over-optimistic and, as I said earlier, I wished them well.

A supporting statement! Earlier in the season, as our league position and football improved, our home attendances actually decreased! I do feel that we, the fans, have let the club down somewhat! At least those ones who did not show up.

  3. feeney needs a few games to get some form, which he wont get because we've got other options. it looks like he's going to be another player who it just hasnt worked for at latics. maybe it still could, but i can't see it, especially this season

I was worried from the off with Feeney when on his first ever latics world interview he was asked how many goals he hpes to achieve this season? He replied, 'Hopefully 10'.

  4. Sheff Utd won at Forest on Saturday 1st May, taking them above Palace. We were then 8 points behind 17th placed Palace out of 20. With a game in hand (Villa) We beat Villa to go 5 points behind Palace, we beat Liverpool but Plaace drew 0-0 at Maine Road that same night meaning we were still three points behind Palace with a game to play but with us having scored many more goals and a slightly inferior GD in fact going into that final Saturday we were -12 Palace were -10…..

it ended up with us on -11 Palace -13

Thankfully le tissier didn't quite manage to spoil the party with his hat-trick on the final day of the season. At 4 - 1 up with the mexican wave in full flow I said to brother, it's abit early to be celebrating! Thankfully I was proven wrong.........just! ;)

  5. on from Harry's thread 'Typical Latics' could be construed as the following - many of the examples below are the reasons why we are proud to be Latics fans, because you really do not know what you are going to get...

    FFS! Typical Latics:-

May '87 Finish third in Division 2, when in pretty much any other year, we would have been guaranteed promotion!!!!!!

September '88 Darlington bottom of the entire football league by some distance, they beat us 2-0 in a League Cup tie

Jan '02 2-0 up at CHesterfield with about 20 minutes left, we lose 4-2 - chief instigator is our own player - Allott!!!

Mar '02 Big play-off clash with Cardiff, we lose 7-1

Jan -Feb '05 Beat Man City then win two of the next 14…

Mar-May '06 Finally get into the Play Off positions after beating Blackpool 3-1, then go on to record NO WINS in the final 7 games….

Feb-May '07 Secure top spot after a good win at Swansea, 15 seemingly straight-forward games left to confirm our promotion - including the Play Off games, we win 4 out of 17

Jan '09 Promotion chasing team roll into Hereford, bottom and looking doomed - we're 4-0 down at half-time…

Oct '10 Go 2-1 down against 10 man Plymouth

Feb '11 onwards - Squad is strengthened, Hartlepool destroyed things looking up for auto - fast forward five weeks and the team are 15 points away from 6th…..

    Typical bleedin' Latics….

Nov '87 Team's been struggling all season, go to the home of the Champions (Everton) in the Littlewoods Cup and have the audacity to take the lead before unluckily losing 2-1

Nov '89 Champions of England arrive at Boundary Park, "Let's no keep it respectable…" Nah, feck it, let's play like Real Madrid and destroy 'em 3-1….

    Feb '90 Semi-Final's are tight affairs…..

May '91 2-0 down, the title's gone. West Ham's name is engraved on the trophy…oops…

Aug '91 Fortress Anfield, the new boys turn-up…takes them 5 minutes to make their mark

May '93 8 points adrift three games to play…..

Dec '94 Big spending Wolves roll into town - despatched 4-1

Nov '95 Promotion chasing Wolves away, we're struggling yet destroy them 3-1

Mar '96 Increasingly in trouble we beat soon to be promoted Leicester 3-1

Dec '96 Billy Big Bollocks City (Kinkladze an' all) arrive at BP, take the lead, miss a pen yet the most useless strikeforce ever in Ormondroyd and Banger seal a win

Mar '97 Not a hope in hell, QPR away……..we win 1-0

Jan '05 All-star City despatched in the FAC

Sept '06 Poor start to the season, we go to Forest and win 2-0

Jan '08 Consecutive away games at Leeds and Everton, we win them both….

Aug '08 3-1 down with less than 20 minutes to go on the opening day of the season….we win 4-3

8 points adrift with 3 games to play? I don't think we were ever 8 points adrift. Maybe 8 points behind crystal palace but they weren't 5th from bottom 3 games before the end of the season! I stand to be corrected!

  6. I have to mention this one. It was the season of 1992/93, the first season of the newly formed premiership, and we played United! United were top of the country and Oldham were 4 points adrift at the foot of the table and struggling. The result was a gritty, determined one nil win over united at Boundary park. Correct me if I'm wrong stattos - but didn't Neil Adams Knock in the winner from a dropped corner possibly from Schmiecal? Anyway, this win was the platform and catalyst for the great escape :)))

  7. I think that is right.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't I think.

Plenty on here advocating speculate to accumulate, and in Jan we were in with a real shout of an auto spot.

I and others have pointed out that The TTA and 1A have backed the manager each year around January.

If we lived within our means we'd be the Northern Prem.

TTA did not back sheridan in January when we sat proudly at the top of the league in our play-off season!!!

  8. It's the sustained pressure thing that really bugs me about having everyone back in the box. It's almost like having to defend 2 set pieces instead of one, as when we do actually manage to get a half decent header/punch away or whatever, the ball is always picked up by an oppo player and invariably pupmed back into the box like a free kick, or second set piece.

Dan, I totally agree mate. I think you just hit the nail on the head!!!

  9. Blackpool went up in 06/07 by making excellent use of the loan market and seemingly pulling players from nowhere on shirt-term deals…I don't want to draw parallels……..but

It was my first game in 6 months and I was suitable impressed - especially by the 2nd half performance! Also, looking at how reid took the 4th goal, yes it was easy but

I have a feeling we have finally found someone who can finish off those chances at last!

I know that no game is a must win this early in the season but for me the daggers game is a must win if you look at the fixtures after this game!

  10. If we can't start picking attendances up over the rest of the season while performing for the majority of it like that, then quite frankly this town doesn't deserve a football club!

I totally agree! However, in my opinion the only thing that will now suitably improve attendances is either promotion or a new stadium! Also, It was first game in 6 months due to working down south - very impressed!

  11. Some woman I've never heard of has just asked me to be her Facebook friend.

I'd rate her 7 or 8 out of 10 based on photo.

    What should I do?

What should I tell Mrs o4u?

If you don't know her and you have no mutral friends - becareful before accepting it, it could be a hacker!

  12. Sadly, yet another player whose off the field habits are affecting his career.

I don't know about Stams off the field antics but I think he's a quality bloke. Shortly after he left latics for Yeovil I sent him a facebook message, me a complete stranger, and he replied with a thank you and all the best for my future. A nice touch I thought!
