There was something interesting going on in the 2002/2003 season, but the average league attendance was less than 7,000.

 

TTA saved the Club and asked for attendances of over 8,000. I thought they were over-optimistic and, as I said earlier, I wished them well.

A supporting statement! Earlier in the season, as our league position and football improved, our home attendances actually decreased! I do feel that we, the fans, have let the club down somewhat! At least those ones who did not show up.

For me this thread can be simplified! Every team in this league is in a dog fight until they reach the magic figure, for arguements sake 53 points! So yes we are in a dog fight untill we achieve the 2 wins and 1 draw required to get over the finish line.

If anyone genuinely believes we're in a relegation dogfight, you can get 10s on us going down.

feeney needs a few games to get some form, which he wont get because we've got other options. it looks like he's going to be another player who it just hasnt worked for at latics. maybe it still could, but i can't see it, especially this season

I was worried from the off with Feeney when on his first ever latics world interview he was asked how many goals he hpes to achieve this season? He replied, 'Hopefully 10'.

Sheff Utd won at Forest on Saturday 1st May, taking them above Palace. We were then 8 points behind 17th placed Palace out of 20. With a game in hand (Villa) We beat Villa to go 5 points behind Palace, we beat Liverpool but Plaace drew 0-0 at Maine Road that same night meaning we were still three points behind Palace with a game to play but with us having scored many more goals and a slightly inferior GD in fact going into that final Saturday we were -12 Palace were -10…..

 

it ended up with us on -11 Palace -13

Thankfully le tissier didn't quite manage to spoil the party with his hat-trick on the final day of the season. At 4 - 1 up with the mexican wave in full flow I said to brother, it's abit early to be celebrating! Thankfully I was proven wrong.........just! ;)

8 points adrift with 3 games to play? I don't think we were ever 8 points adrift. Maybe 8 points behind crystal palace but they weren't 5th from bottom 3 games before the end of the season! I stand to be corrected!

I have to mention this one. It was the season of 1992/93, the first season of the newly formed premiership, and we played United! United were top of the country and Oldham were 4 points adrift at the foot of the table and struggling. The result was a gritty, determined one nil win over united at Boundary park. Correct me if I'm wrong stattos - but didn't Neil Adams Knock in the winner from a dropped corner possibly from Schmiecal? Anyway, this win was the platform and catalyst for the great escape ))

Plenty on here advocating speculate to accumulate, and in Jan we were in with a real shout of an auto spot.

I and others have pointed out that The TTA and 1A have backed the manager each year around January.

If we lived within our means we'd be the Northern Prem.

TTA did not back sheridan in January when we sat proudly at the top of the league in our play-off season!!!

It's the sustained pressure thing that really bugs me about having everyone back in the box. It's almost like having to defend 2 set pieces instead of one, as when we do actually manage to get a half decent header/punch away or whatever, the ball is always picked up by an oppo player and invariably pupmed back into the box like a free kick, or second set piece.

Blackpool went up in 06/07 by making excellent use of the loan market and seemingly pulling players from nowhere on shirt-term deals…I don't want to draw parallels……..but

It was my first game in 6 months and I was suitable impressed - especially by the 2nd half performance! Also, looking at how reid took the 4th goal, yes it was easy but

I have a feeling we have finally found someone who can finish off those chances at last!

I know that no game is a must win this early in the season but for me the daggers game is a must win if you look at the fixtures after this game!

If we can't start picking attendances up over the rest of the season while performing for the majority of it like that, then quite frankly this town doesn't deserve a football club!

I totally agree! However, in my opinion the only thing that will now suitably improve attendances is either promotion or a new stadium! Also, It was first game in 6 months due to working down south - very impressed!

My take on the penalty is it wasn't a penaltY, but more importantly what the hell was our defender doing chasing after a ball like that! Lesson learned I hope.

Next thing you'll be telling me you don't win anything with kids The fact is we are 5th after 25 games on merit. Stands to reason we could be there, better, or worse at the end of the season. The trouble with most latics fans is they overly cautious! We'll be better than 10th place.

Chill. As long as we win our home games we'll be reet. And if we don't we're still exceeding expectations for the season.

I don't know about Stams off the field antics but I think he's a quality bloke. Shortly after he left latics for Yeovil I sent him a facebook message, me a complete stranger, and he replied with a thank you and all the best for my future. A nice touch I thought!
