  1. Nah, that sort of thing happens up and down the country on a daily bass at all levels of the game. If you have played the game at any level surely you will have seen that sort of thing. Normally it is dealt with in house and players kiss and make up. Just the high profile occurences of Dyer and Bowyer & Hartson and Berkovic bring it into the public eye. I think Shez has realised Ricketts is not the man he thought he was signing, instead we got a lazy half-arsed has been who had neat touches but brought little if anything to the team. The results speak for themselves.
  2. Ricketts didn't play the other night and from the highlights we were playing it to the wings and getting balls in, imo regardless if Ricketts was playing he hasn't the desire to get on the end of things so the players run out of ideas and just lump it up to him. How many times has he got on the end of things this season? How many saves has he made the keeper make. The guy is ineffective and doesn't have the desire. I'm positive he won't score more than 4 or 5 goals for Walsall. If he does i'll be amazed. Hopefully Hughes will now come good and his past off-field antics aside, he's looked incredilby hungry and chases everything. Whilst I still would've liked to have seen Hughes and Ricketts with Davies pushed wide, it seems that some of our original fears were confirmed and that Ricketts just isn't right for our club.
  3. Said on the day we signed him I was underwhelmed
  4. FTAO Wardle From the highlights I've seen mate, I think Hughes was the man we needed a fit Hughes would scored at least two the other night with the quality of football and balls into the box. At least there shouldn't be anymore HOOF now!
  5. Sorry mate but Ricketts hasn't the desire to be a poacher. How many times has he got on the end of things since he's been here? How many shots has he had? Its ok making flick ons and playing premier league balls to third didvision players, his problem was he wanted the rest of the team to adapt to his so called superior football brain, when in reality he should have kept it simple. He was and will forever be a one season wonder at Bolton and i'm gutted we gave him 3 years when so much more was available for the money we've undoubtedly gave him. Surely we could have kept Porter or Wellens for the package this clown is on?
  6. was gutted when we signed the big useless turd and hasn't proved otherwise really. He was pooh at 'Boro, Burnley, Cardiff, Southend etc... England international my arse! He played an anonymous 45 minutes in Holland before Sven realised just how crap he was. Neat touches yes but no end product and an unwillingness and lack of desire to actually shoot or get on the end of things. What a mistake to give him three years. Give the kids a go I say. And I hope to God that Walsall are stumping up his wages! Onwards on upwards with players who have desire. Respect to Shez for realising he dropped a monumental bollock so early! And having the balls to do something about it!
  7. Well after watching those highlights a little faith has returned. Edited I know, but finally some good football any hardly any hoof, (symptomatic of having a footballing centre-half? Liddell and Eardley loked to be combining well, Kilkenny looked up for it, Macca made the runs that others have been lacking and even Taylor looked involved)chance after chance and if we had a striker we would have won easily. Well done lads on not only standing up and being counted but yet again outplaying a perceived better team away from home. Little acorns and all that., some times injuries prove to be a blessing, Marlon for me has to get a deal hes far better than Cossley imo............Still not going on Saturday or Tuesday as I can't really afford it but I wish I was!
  8. Good point, but we need to start putting away some of our chances. Pleased with the clean sheet but that is now only 2 goals in 6 games.
  9. I'm not going, so i'll be missing my 2nd game of the season after Cheltenham. I didn't go last season so I'm hoping the outcome will be the same. Tbh I think we'll get a tonking with the injuries we have and the forward line and midfield they have. A draw would be a massive bonus. Anyhow i've an exam on Thursday and can't spare the time even though I was really trying to convince myself to go on Sunday. I've decided it'll be an evening of me immersed in historic fact whilst swearing very loudly at my PC as Forest bang in their 3rd. Not going to Orient, (trains are a nightmare) Tranmere (graveyard, been 7 times seen us win once) or Bournemouth (another graveyard). Millwall and Sarfend far too expensivbe a fortnight and a week before Xmas. My next away game may not be until new year's day, but if we're still pooh it may take some justifying to shell out £24 to watch a third division match. Anyway give 'em a song for me and I hope Shez can turn it round and soon as i'm really not looking forward to seeing the League One table at 4.50pm on Saturday 24th November.
  10. With Ronnie Moore's damn team! This is his team and frankly it is a pile of crap and has been all season and for the last 15 games of last season. Damage limitation i'm afraid 'cos with 4 straight away games we are going to firmly entrenched in the relegation dog-fight come the first day of advent. I'd love him to turn it round but I can't see him doing it. As someone said he hasn't a clue how to rectify the failings of his squad, and as someone else said he looks like a frightened rabbit trapped in headlights. How a former international midfielder can be sending out such an inept midfield every week beggars belief. I'd give him until the beginning of December but I know the outcome now. We're not too good to go down and this my friends is a relegation team. I've missed one game all season (In fact one game since Port Vale in February) and we've played well in probably 3 or 4 in 26 League games. He doesn't kow his best team, is contantly tinkering and getting nowhere. Oldham feckin' nil!
  11. Big Joe was along the same lines I was thinking, yes it would be hard for Sheridan to be in the shadows of a Latics Legend, but he would benefit from his 23 years of managerial experience and contacts.
  12. My frustration in the past has come from the fact we've been skint and had no options to bring the quality in. Shez's budget was a large one for this level and I feel either he or interference from the hierachy has seen it wasted. I say this as i'm not convinced that Hughes and Kilkenny were signed by Shez. Last season an average team clicked for 4 months or so and it was enough to get into the play offs. This year man for man ability wise the squad is better. I terms of effort, the class of 07/08 come a very poor second. League One is no better than last year but the teams that under achieved last year have got their acts together and we're getting left behind and looking over our shoulder is becoming a far more pressing matter. What worries me is if the players are de-motivated when treading water in lower mid-table, how the hell are they going to react when we hit the bottom four? If things do not improve I would be an advocate of appointing a director of football or bringing in an older coach to assist Shez, (he proved for that four month purple patch he can get results and i'm willing to give him at least until Christmas) but we have a very young coaching staff and a little experience might just gain us that 'Plan B' and freshen things up a little. Whom to appoint? Not sure.
  13. Whilst I agree Ronnie was a dinosaur, and I was fairly indifferent to his managerial style and tactics - Shez is proving to be just as 'reactive' to any problems that present themselves. We played better football under his (Shez's) cartaker tenure in 03/04, with a bunch of kids, journeymen and no hopers. Now we have these so-called big names we are dire. There's too many egos in the dressing room imo, thus explaining Shez's outburst today. One thing though Dan, has Shez convinced us he has a Plan 'B' yet? Because we are playing more hoofball than under ronnie at the moment. Yes it was and boring under Ronnie, but it was and boring in the top ten of the league. With the run we've got coming up I'll guarantee we'll be bottom four after we've played at Bournemouth. Even when we've had good sides we've been a soft touch away from home (Dowie season apart) and if we get more than four points from Forest, Orient, Bindippers and Bournemouth I'll be amazed. Last night was so predicatable, I've been watching the sdame kind of away performance for 21 years. Ok first half, 0-0 - then second half roll over and die! I know you've said you were disilliusioned in the mid-90's before regaining the spark at Maine Road well I'm going the same way mate and thats coming from someone who goes to 40+ games every season.
  14. 10 League games in yes; and only one half-decent performance at Walsall. Since new year's day League and Cup P38 W12 D9 L17 Sorry but if that had been Ronnie Moore then the clique would be in hysterics, nudge, nudge, wink, wink........to the point of getting a bleedin' UN resolution against him. So tell me, why is Sheridan immune from criticism? And have we progressed on the field? Because from January we have gone backwards and if we're still struggling come New Years Day like it or not tough decisions have to be made.
  15. Trouble is BB too many people had their own agenda re: Ronnie Moore, because the clique didn't like him he had to go. Personally I thought he was hard done by, I wasn't his biggest fan but I renewed my season ticket anyway as I have always said that no matter what no man is bigger than the club. I would have given him at least until Christmas last season. If we were still underachieving then get rid. It is ironic that it was mainly his team that got to the Play Offs and tailed off in exactly the same way as the year before. So was it the players lack of desire rather than the manager's shortcomings? Even more ironic is the great start Tranmere have had with pretty much the same squad as last year. Yes they may fade again but so did we last season and this year has been a nightmare for us so far, would we have progressed under Ronnie in year two? Have we progressed under Shez in year 2? Only smarties have the answer............................
  16. ......However the answer is staring us in the face. The midfield and attack are too far apart, so if we continue to play in the style (???) we have done so far this season, we neeed a link man, someone to play in the hole. Well the most gifted player at the club could be the problem solved......................Andy Liddell. Push him into the middle, with him dropping off, I'm sure we will see a difference, why not experiment at Donny, nowt to lose. It was me that suggested playing Lidds in the hole to try and close the chasm between midfield and attack. Lidds has played in the hole before, notably at home to Northampton last season when Shez changed things around in the second half and on another couple occasions too. More often than not though it has been a 'reactive' move rather than pro-active, and there is Shez's problem sometimes. Too often tactically he is the comfort zone. both with his team selections and setting out his stall.
  17. The problem with Wellens and Kilkenny is they both have massive egos, both spit their dummies out when all is not well and neither is truly a team player. I wasn't that sorry to see Richie leave, in two years here he probably had 10 games where he stood out. My biggest gripe with KK and Shez is that we played all of pre-season with Allott and JP and were beginning to look good, not outstanding but we were keeping posession, playing it wide and playing it on the deck to Ricketts and Davies, then we sign Kilkenny, suddenly we're very one dimensional with a midfield that is 40 yards away from its attackers. We look like the team that almost went down in 04/05 - who was the midfield talisman in that team? Is it a coincidence that probably our best two performances, 2nd half at Accrington and away at Walsall were without Kilkenny? I'll take workmanlike over posing midfield maestros any day.
  18. Yep, 4 cards it is. http://www.soccerbase.com/players_details.sd?playerid=3076 Please God not Thompson!
  19. Well spotted, but as it is only a LDV tie and we know what Wolfy is about give the other two a spot on the bench. (Smally & Lewis)
  20. The players we have need to knuckle down and start playing as a team. The defence looks very good. Hazell has proved to a revelation and if Beresford carries on playing like he did on Saturday then he'll get a longer deal too. Our problems lie in midfield, I'll be honest I wasn't keen on re-signing Kilkenny and I've been proved right in the respect that I just don't think the guy has improved in the two seasons he's been back at Brum, much as I hate to admit it Wellens is a far better player in the respect he keeps the ball, if he had improved (KK) Bruce would've played him more. Allott despite being tidy offers nothing in an attacking sense, JP wins the ball but midfield and attack are too far apart to capitalise. Macca could be answer as he likes to drop deep and make runs into the box but his confidence is destroyed. However the answer is staring us in the face. Team for Donny 4 3 1 2 Marlon Eardley Gregan Hazell Betrand Taylor (on the Right, last chance saloon) Kilkenny Kalala Lidds (in the hole and drift wide as needed) Ricketts Davies Subs: Smalley Taylor Allessandra Macca Allott
  21. Since new year's day League and Cup P37 W12 D9 L16 Mediocrity at best! League Record (not inc play offs) P30 W10 D8 L12 F35 A39 Pts38 Makes worrying reading. Shez let himself down last season by trying to win promotion with 11 men rather than gambling on signings when money had been publicly made available. He went down in my estimation when he stated that five or 6 of his team which was 2nd in the League wasn't good enough for the league above - way to motivate your team! Then scraping together a play off target at Easter when auto was still on. I know he's a legend and done a lot of good things as a player and manager but for me the honeymoon is over and it is time to deliver. Whether he made the signings out of choice or not, many managers at this level would kill for the budget he had this summer and for the chance to work with the talent at his disposal. I hope he turns it round and gets us playing the way I know we can and he needs to start by taking a look at himself.
  22. Disagree re: Taylor Lags............................................................................ .......he's been crap since February! Only bright spot for me yesterday was the surprising quality of Beresford, without him we would have lost 3 or 4-1 and after not breaking sweat in the first half and easily holding the lead, whilst not really ripping up any trees it would have been a travesty. Honeymoon is over Mr. Sheridan, this is your team and we've definitely gone backwards. Says it all when a useful away point feels like a loss. I was uncomfortable with many of the signings we made pre-season and Bristol City proved two years ago that signing players off past reputation is a recipe for mediocrity (Stewart, Bridges, Orr etc...) and only when they cleared their 'deadwood' did they progress under Johnson. The trouble is we've not only signed our deadwood it is pretty much 'driftwood' destined to do sod all for the rest of their careers, and at the moment with 11 points from 10 games that is relegation form. Its going to be a long hard winter, so lets hope Shez at least has the balls to play both Smalley and Allessandra at Donny if only to give Taylor and others a kick up the arse!
  23. No I didn't attend as I knew the deferral would be a formality. I'll be there in November though.
  24. council could've passed it subject to the holding order but opted to defer until the Highways Agency have reported back with their findings. Have a horrible feeling Bashforth and cronies are going to shaft us! From officail Sms and on official site. Hardy sounds really pissed off! http://www.oldhamathletic.premiumtv.co.uk/...,,10337,00.html
  25. Overpaid pansies. We did the difficult bit in silencing the crowd and bagging first, yet agin that Shrek lookalike's hot headedness has cost us, as has our inability to grow a pair of balls and stand up and be counted - the winner was even poorer. Don't sack Maclaren, its the players fault. Millionaire's that don't have the stomach for a fight! Golden generation my arse! I hope the they don't qualify (and it is a tall ask now as Croatia imo are a better team and proved that in Zagreb and Russia now have two relatively straight forward games) so everyone can regain a sense of persepective - we aren't as good as we think we are!
