  1. First Half was exceptionally poor from both sides, the referee was a real 'homer' and the penalty decision was laughable. Carlisle 2nd half were happy with what they had and made no attempt to force a 2nd goal. Still unsure as to whether Davies was fouled, he seemd to go down too easy for me. But the worst part of the day was the lad , late teens early twenties sat 5 or 6 rows behind us that racially abused Neil Eardley, which really wound me up. You know who you are you long haired so and so, but to stand there proudly wearing your new blue strip and a tangerine scarf, then abuse a 19 year old kid in the way you did was lowest of the low, then to act all big and hard with the middle-aged guy who challenged you was laughable. Soon backed down when someone younger and bigger had a go didn't you! Cretin!
  2. Think it' a crap draw myself, when you bear in mind the teams that were still left in the pot at the time, such as Newcastle, Citeh Middlesbrough etc.... graveyard of a ground for Latics, populated by neanderthals. Also it gives us at least 3 consecutive away games (4 if Forest goes ahead), not good on the old purse strings so early in the season. Think'll I'll bin Hartlepool and go to Accy and the Dingles.
  3. Yep think it was his back that prematurely ended his career. Funnt thing was that when he first came into the team he couldn't shoot for toffee but over the years who could forget his wonderful goals v Arsenal, his screamers at Sheffield United and Grimsby, his half-volley v Coventry and the one in the return fixture with the outside of his foot at Highfield Road.
  4. I think they've all impressed to a point. Crossley - Good shot stopper, talks incessantly. But worried about him being superglued to his line. Will cost us a few goals on crosses I feel, but very good at one on one's so far. Thompson - Good on the deck reads the game well but prone to diving in. Kalala - Quick, maks runs into the box, ball winner and neat passer - betetr than Rocky as he has more control about his whole game Allott - Completely reinvented himself. Neat and tidy passer, crunching tackler, still can't shoot for toffee. Passes forward more than Wellens and keeps it simple. Davies - Paul Warne but good! Can shoot, very quick and chases things down he has to right to, drooling over this boy's potential. The one that stands out for me! Rickett's - agree with Shez, far too good for this level, puts himself about, decent in the air, good shot on him and forging a good partnership with Craig Davies.
  5. 'Fryatt and Shaw', my owd fella bores me to tears sometimes with how good these two were. However, from what he has told me they sounded a great partnership with Fryatt's brute strength and heading ability, along with Shaw's raw pace. Would've loved to have seen them terrrorise defences like they did in 70/71? When they scored 23 and 24 goals each - closest we've been since was Ritchie and Palmer in 87/88 when they scored 20 apiece and in 89/90 when Stitch scored 28 and Palmer 20, but loads were scored in the cup. I hope we are talking about Davies, Ricketts and Hughes in the same breath next season! One incident my dad constantly refers to, was in the days of Fryatt and Shaw, when David lost one of his contact lenses during a game. The referee halted proceedings and then the next 5-10 minutes saw between 10 & 15 Football League pro footballers on their hands and knees searching for said lense! Anyone remeber that?
  6. Q) when did we last have a physically dominating centre forward Sean McCarthy or Clyde Wijnhard. In particular McCarthy, a lot gave the lad grief but when he wasn't playing and when he ultimately left, boy did we miss his physical presence. Something we didn't have for four years between 1998-2002Something that wasn't solved until we signed the ilk of Killen and Wijnhard.
  7. OK we lost but the scoreline doesn't tell the -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- story. We played some good stuff and Ricketts on that showing may prove to be a very astute signing. Kalala, Thompson, Crossley, Allott and Davies all impressed too. It was only when Ricketts and Davies exited and the three young lads came on that we stopped holding the ball up front and imo a goal was probbly inevitable, even then god only knows how Macca missed that free header from 3 yards out! Crossley - Looked hesitant on crosses but one brilliant save and very good kicking Lomax - Steady Gregan - Loooked very rusty, good in the air but passing way off Thompson - Classy, good in the air, good on the deck with a slight turn of pace Wright - Tidy player, hardly wasted a ball, good crosser - worth a 12 month deal imo Liddell - DId what he does Kalala - Everywhere, very busy player Allott - Tidy passing, ok some go astray but keeps it simple. Shooting hasn't improved! Taylor - Looked rusty, but will get sharper. Couple of good runs Ricketts - Hope Senor was watching that, a class apart. Great touch, ,chased lost causes and almost a couple of assists. Maybe would've had a brace if he'd been greedier. Davies - Warneyesque, in the way he chased everything. Hell of a shot on him. Could be a class signing - real promise. Subs: Macca - Only the second outing of Pre-Season I know but needs to improve and quickly. Looked powder-puff and missed a real sitter, perhaps he knows he isn't first choice. Eardley - Usual steady self Stam - Looked rustiest of the lot, Dale's forwards rang rings round him. Clumsy challenges culminated in him conceding a pen and diving in along with Thompson led to the winner. But bearing in mind just how little football he has played since November, the sharpness and class will return. Scored from a corner. Smalley - Initially looked good out wide. Faded when Ricketts and Davies went off. Wolfy - Looked a handful Alessandra - One real guilt end chance. Bit of a rabbit trapped in headlights moment. All in all Shez in the way he used his subs treated the game as three matches of 30 minutes. The first two thirds were very good, the final third not so. However, the sharness will come and the from what has been on show tonight we can all be encouraged.
  8. Hughs and Ricketts playing together would give Latics a front-two who had been involved in transfers totalling £11,750,000 when was the last time that happened! Somehow don't think they've come here for the money! Perhaps boh want to prove a point!
  9. According to Sky Sports News, when focusing on Leeds United's 'football creditors' earlier Rickett's is owed £117, 500 by the club!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  10. Whitehall? Jepson? McGinlay? has hasppened before! For 'experience' I hope it doesn't translate as 'owd and knackered' Claridge? Windass?
  11. Carssy signed on the same day as David Eyres back in October 2000. Admittedly his technical ability wasn't as good as Wellens but Carss was a true box to box player, great in the tackle and a good passer of the ball. He also had a vicious shot on him. Remember his winner v Bristol Rovers on Easter Monday 2001? A screamer of a half-volley at the Chaddy End, and his equaliser at the Galpharm on the final day of 02/03 - that proved to be his last league appearance for the club (apart from v Play Offs) as despite holding on throughout the summer of hell he finally moved to Huddersfield on the same day Dux moved to Bury. If he's have waited another 3 days or so he may have been given a contract as the Jarvis/Joy transfer came into force. IMO Cartssy was just as pivotal as David Eyres in turning round a certain relegation season in 2000/01 as Andy Ritchie looked to have run out of options and ideas but yet again he pulled two rabbits out of the hat and we went on and had a decent miod-table season and at one point from Dec-Feb we threatened to break into the top 6 with Wins over Oxford, Wigan, Luton, Brentford and Wrexham. Draws v Bury, Brentford, Walsall, Peterborough, Port Vale and Colchester with the only defeats coming at Notts County and Wigan.
  12. Totally agree Mads, perhaps we can have a team without any real stars, that just work their backsides off for the good of the collective. Looks like we'll have much more pace next year and Blackpool proved just how devastating a sprinkling of pace can be in a team that when looked at on paper wouldn't rip up any trees. Yeovil's performance at Forest was a prime example too.
  13. Looks like another of our so-called 'big-names' has jumped ship. If they don't want to be here then so be it! Much rather have a team of kids that want to play than a bunch of big time charlies that are only out for themselves and their bank balance. Maybe we'll see a forward pass next season............... confirmed! http://www.doncasterroversfc.premiumtv.co....1067859,00.html
  14. Kalalala.................. Kalalala.................. hey, hey, hey Kalalala!
  15. Hmmmm never though of him, as much as he has 'potential' it'd be a little disappointing by keeping us in suspense overnight, in fact it'd be downright pooh! If it is welcome on board Luigi!
  16. Neither can I, but I've had an official SMS stating the same! ooooohhh wonder who it could be???? Intrigued, probably some kid we've never heard of or has Shez pulled off a coup??? We wait with baited breath!
  17. Ipswich ?? 27th April 1991 Won 2-1 = Promotion?
