  2. There was two against Liverpool, and there has been a lot of conjecture over the years between whether David James was credited with at least one o.g but the official records give the two to Olney and Beckford. With Olney of course bagging another one. Pointon took both corners. Pointon did score two straight from corners v Sheff Wed (past Chris Woods) and of course the opener in the Great Escape game (past Tim Flowers) both during the 92/93 season. Keeping on topic late on during The Sheff Wed game Adams had a late winner disallowed.
  3. Trouble is Gary Mac only came into the team when Ricketts was dropped so we can only speculate. Part of me would've like to have seen Ricketts and Hughes play together but from what I heard at the trust dinner is was highly unlikely Ricketts would've been here after October/November anyway unless he had been a revelation.
  4. We look a better team without him and despite our inability to hit a cow's arse with a banjo we look more threatening and are creating the amount of chances we were last season. With Ricketts in the team we weren't doing that because he couldn't be bothered in dragging his ample arse into the box to get on the end of things. Winning the flick on or spraying the ball wide is half of being an effective forward the other half for a player of his perceived calibre is getting on the end of the cross/second phase of play.
  5. Don't know how Coco feels but Shez was quoted as saying he'd "rather have half a dozen rabid ferretts chewing on his scrotum than let Ricketts anywhere near this club again!"
  6. Agree, if we had someone like Porter who scores all types of goals whilst being an effective target man (of which we've missed all season as I'm not even going to mention the over rated turd that was Bentley Boy) we'd easily be top 10. As it is Shez left us weak on the left (square pegs in round holes) and weak upfront due to players being too samey. We need a big bugger up there, someone who can nick a goal when we need one (ala Luton or Donny) someone to a nuisance and someone who can make us look more threatening at set-pieceas. I think Davies has over achieved to get to 10 goals and I'll still be surprised if he gets past 15, in fact it wouldn't surprise me to see Hughes bag more than him overall. Whilst to a certain extent I rate Davies (even got his name on my shirt) he's not a team player, greedy with the ball and doesn't look up and stops working when we haven't got the ball, which is disappointing as he looked to be a real work horse during pre-season and early season. I think he likes to be the centre of the fans' adulation and Hughesy coming could has peed on his chips a little.
  7. Is there any way we can let Mr. Hewitt formally know our objections to his degrading comments by way of solicitors letter or petition? We need to call his bluff and ask him to provide evidence of yobbish behaviour and proof of this intimidation. Basically he needs to put up or shut up!
  8. I'm finding your new found optimism unnerving Coco, time to stop taking the medication methinks
  9. Printed in the Chron tonight, think it is becoming increasingly obvious he is the main instigator of this campaign to tarnish the good name of all OAFC fans. YOUR editorial (December 12) celebrating the new Latics stadium scheme, talks about rumblings of discontent about the encroachment on to Clayton playing fields and issues regarding covenants. These are not issues that fans should be worried about. They can be worked through so long as Oldham Athletic and Oldham Council act in a reasonable manner. The council and Latics both have land registry plans and the encroachments can and should be avoided. I believe that last minute plans submitted to the planning meeting addressed part of the problem. My concern over the Trust land is well known and I see no reason why the club needs or even wants any of the trust land. I just want them to do the job properly and the problem will disappear. As far as the covenants are concerned, there is a difficulty because the same covenants that have protected the Clayton playing fields from developers and misguided councillors, also cover a large part of Latics. To break the covenants on Latics would break them on Clayton and that cannot be allowed to happen because, as every Oldhamer knows, virtually nobody trusts the politicians to look after public assets. There are, however, ways and means round the covenants but again that requires a willingness from all parties to sit down and negotiate in a sensible manner. Although Latics have outline permission to build 700 dwellings there is no insistence that they go as high as that number and they may consider reducing that figure as part of an overall strategy to upgrade the club, the site and the neighbourhood. The club should be at the heart of the community and do its level best to stop the minority of violent idiots ripping the heart out of the community out of misguided loyalty. I therefore appeal to Alan Hardy to refrain from his over zealous rallying cries to the fans, when things don’t go his way, and act in a more tempered manner. Boundary Park is the right place for a new stadium, we all know that, but don’t demonise the residents for trying to look after their homes and neighbourhood. There is a world of difference between trying to stop a development and trying to modify it to cater for as wide a range of interested parties as possible. SIMON HEWITT, Carlton way Royton
  10. He was on ESPN classics last night. Norwich 4 Southampton 5 a game he played in shortly after Uncle Joe scandalously offloaded one of the few players we had with genuine pace and to a club he went on to give 5 1/2 years very good service, before coming back here when his legs had gone but still had the speed of thought to weigh in with a goal or two. Neil was being interviewed about the afore mentioned game and I think he's a coach at Norwich now.
  11. 1. Latics Aftershave 2. 10% 3. Voucher A 4. Winston Dubose 5. A pie hit him in the mush
  12. I've at one time or another sat and stood pretty much everywhere 86-92 Chaddy End mainly and Rocky Road End during glory years 92-94 George Hill or Lookers Paddock 94-97 Lookers Paddock 97-03 Chaddy End 03-05 Lookers Paddock 05-06 Chaddy End 06-08 Lookers Paddock Still think though the Lookers Paddock is the best view in the ground, despite the risk of regular drenchings, whilst top right hand corner of the chaddy is superb when the boys in blue are attcking, its just the fact its full of mini chavs that put me off and one post in the way. Used to sit right behind the goal in the Chaddy and actually watch the game through the back of the net which has always been one of my favourite unique views but as you get older you prefer to sit in less manic areas! As you say I would prefer to sit in the Rocky but would choose my old spot in the Chaddy over the George Hill Paddock which is inferior imo. (Aint it great to be discussing this after the damp squib of last month?!)
  13. However I could just seee if our old seats in the Chaddy are available from 4 or 5 seasons ago. I'm sure they are 'cos we sat there vs Mansfield in the Cup.
  14. What about Stewards and cartering staff from the lookers stand, do the club have a duty to find them alternative work? The Lookers Upper is pretty rammed most games, the Lower tier whilst busy in sections in reality is probably only a third full for most games. But I can see upwards of 1,500 season ticket holders from the Lookers needing to be rehoused. Bearing in mind most of the remaining seats in the Chaddy have a poor view and likewise and cramped in the George Hill lower, the Rocky Road end should be an option imo.
  15. I agree, the resident's comments are particularly underhand and border on the libellous imo. Could we collectively ask the Chronicle to retract those comments? Or perhaps one of the Trust Directors could get in touch with the editor and let him know in no uncertain terms that such throwaway quotes will not be tolerated by decent hardworking, law abiding citizens who will not sit back and allow their reputations to be tarnished for having the audacity to be a football fan.
  16. 82 and 83 stop outside the Grey Horse 181 & 24 Stops Shaw Road End 2 minute walk to the White Hart (at the side of Our Lady's High School) 182 Stops outside the White Hart other options 183,184 stop outside the Grey Horse before going up Hollins Road
  17. So those of us that sit right on the halfway line with a superb unobstructed view could end up either in the cramped George Hill paddock which is an inferior view (from when I've sat there for Reserve and ORLFC games) or the crappy Chaddy End with its posts in the way and gangs of little chavs throwing chips and spitting at one another. IMO that is no upgrade and if there is an option for the Rocky Road End then thats where I will go the club could transfer the Lookers stewards and catering supplies etc to there.
  18. [quote name='philliggi' date='Dec 13 2007, 23:35 PM' post='77367' ps, i presume we are getting a new club shop? The new club shop will be in the new Broadway Stand
  19. S_W is making a point (not whining) and once again, you have got totally the wrong end of the stick. Care to elaborate how many times I've got the wrong end of the stick?
  20. Perhaps I could have worded my comments better. However, my main point is that if you buy a season ticket under any circumstances that is helping the club, yes some saw it as an incentive but isn't buying one before the discount deadline an incentive too? I'm sure those that saved their £60 or whatever in gambling on a half season upgrade spent the money on the two new shirts we have yet again introduced. The whinger comment wasn't really aimed at SW it was a wider point on how petty Latics fans can be over little things that in the wider scheme of things don't really matter. I only wish more people had backed BB80's views over the large number of 'fans' who witheld their season ticket renewals during the early part of summer 2006, crippling the club and forcing them to part with the manager, now that was worth getting on one's sopabox for.
  21. Even so Chickers has paid his money and committed to a season ticket. OK so he's paid £60 less and maybe will get a perceived 'free upgrade', but what the hell, that's the problem with a lot of Latics fans alweays thinking they're missing out on summat, like the reduced admission initiatives or celebration Sunday freebies. That's probably why we've seen a lack of marketing initiatives this season, every time the owners try and drum up extra support or offer incentives other season ticket holders whine that they've paid their money and are missing out. Its infuriating. For God sake we've all fought hard to get this decision from the council but some still feel it relevant to criticise others for having the commitment to buy season tickets in a stand that is likely to be demolished. But how many of those whining got drenched on Saturday or at home to Forest, Wolves, Port Vale or Blackpool last season???
