  1. Smalley has all the quality needed to make it as a pro in time. What I would like to see is him believe that he can be a good footballer I sometimes feel that he just needs to back himself that little bit more and realise what a good player he can be. People didn't like Richie Wellens because they thought he was arrogant the same with Neil Kilkenny I didn't mind that I like to see our players back their own ability. Alot of this will come with age and I think that like BB80 says this season will have done him good as the experience gained will be vital. The crowd of course can help with this and encourage him he will be the type of player that responds positively to it.

  2. Supported imo but its TTA that will have the finger on the trigger. I hope its not a sensitive trigger as we might shoot ourselves in the knees again.

Can I just say that poor season ticket sales will not necessarily mean that shez will get the boot. Ronnie got the boot for this but people were not renewing season tickets directly because of him this won't be the case with Shez as the poll pretty much suggests the fans are behind him we couldn't say that about moore.

  3. This is the other side of why our attendances are falling. Our own lack of progress is compounded by the hopelessness of the position of clubs like ours in the face of football's finances being concentrated at the top.

Clubs like ours have been reduced from being able to occasionally compete with the middle-to-lower level top flight clubs to one that can't even compete with massive Doncaster and massive Swansea.

It all has an effect on people's ability to care about any of it.

Damn right I don't care. I was lucky enough to take a trip to carrington the other week absolutely imense facilities which are along way from what Chapel road is like or what we are ever likely to have.

I ain't gonna sit their worrying and wining about what other clubs have and have not I worry about where we are going at the moment I can see a future for this club with TTa we are in the right hands.

  4. We've seen threads on here about how much Latics have made (money) through various means and talk of making 150k here and there and what difference that'll make to Shez's pot. Mascherano as just been fined 150K for his sending off the other week. Talk about the rich/poor divide. Just brings it home doesn't it everytime you hear or read these kinda things. Or how Lampard wants more money for himself than Latics generate in a full season. It just seems so crazy in them terms.

Very true but to be honest does it surpise you anymore?

  5. Or handing it over to QPR...

I don't think they're making that much if they're selling, for example, Trotman for £500,000. They've already said if one's not prepared to invest, then the others won't. I don't think you can successfully own a club when you're having to listen to 2 other people - however, that's not my point.

Some say Shez is naive at times, well I think they are too. Going back to the contracts, they took Porter's word for it that he'd sell. They allowed a good few players perform excellently, and we had no word of contracts. Could happen this season, too.

Sorry but your talking out your arse

  6. the stadium with pay for itself and not out of there pockets.

i think what he is trying to say is that, maybe a discount on season tickets would be seen as a good gesture by the owners, but hes going about it the wrong way by getting peoples backs up

Yes but we are going to be the ones sat in the new stadium able to use its new facilities, Plus the club would lose out on money doubt its going to happen. Their has been alot of ordianary performances this season no doubt but Knowone guaranteed us success this season we aimed high and maybe we have fallen short knowone ever said is was going to be easy. I don't remember anyone predicting at the start of the season that we were going to have a teams worth of players out injured going into the final quarter of the season.

Its a two way thing if we put our hands in our pockets and buy season tickets next season TTA will help us bring in new players which will give us a better chance of promotion. I'm not going to tell people what to do with their own money thats their choice in life. However If you are a season ticket holder and are not going to renew and just pick and choose your games then their don't expect those games you do pick and choose to go to be any better than what has been seen this season. Plus if you do buy a season ticket you will still efectively be able to pick and choose which ones you go to as you get a percentage of those games free.

  7. Totally agree, he gives nothing but abuse all games to the players - if I worked for someone like him he would never get the best out of me - just a bit of encouragment which Tommy Wright managed at the Hudds match goes a long way - Shez needs to look closer to home for the moaners at the match.

All very well but the reason why Shez was moaning is because fans aren't letting him and the players just get on with it as they are passing their opinions to him all the time. We just have to put abit of faith in him. He won't get everything right not now probably not ever but if he is right more than he is wrong then that will do for me.

  8. I think the days of expecting football clubs breaking even are over. To be fair to TTA they've made unexpected gains from the likes of Scott Spencer, Philipskirk's son, Trotman, a couple of good cup runs, and we as supporters have ended up with :censored: all out of these. I woudlike to TTA give something back and cut prices significantly.

    Give something back!

You mean like building us a new stadium.

  9. So here I am, England are playing which not too long ago would have had me at the game if it was at home or glued to the TV if away, and I am posting on here not even interested in the slightest.

Maybe it is due to the general malaise that the game seems to be in to the fans of many lower league clubs, but I am getting bored of all of it.

So I am taking an opportunity to solve the biggest question that has been asked on this board for the last few months.

Look deep inside yourselves folks and be honest about your replies.

All this Shez in v Shez out to and fro-ing, let us take it to a different level.

Imagine for a moment that Shez had no previous connection with the club, like Moore didn't; what would you say then inners and outers?

I actually said when we were in the pub before we left for Donny, that if it wasn't Shez I think I would have wanted him out such has been the paucity in performance this season. Though as it is Shez (who is a legend in my book) he still has at least a seasons worth of rope left before he hangs himself.

Too many poor performances, and yes there may be extenuous circumstances re injuries, but it has been poor for the majority of the 07/08 season.

We have been left behind forever to ply our trade in the bottom two divisions IMO.

    Football is a dying sport.

    KtF,

    Derek.

If shez had no previous connections to the club I would still be saying the same thing keep him thought the same about Moore, only a handful of managers ever get out of this league on 1st or 2nd season.

We will be plying our trade in the bottom 2 divsions eternally if we keep chopping and changing the manager, If we stick with one and give ourselves stability we have a lot better chance of not doing so.

  10. I haven't been saying its easy, but that, as all the evidence proves, the longer you are bogged down in the division, the harder it is to get out of it.

    Here's one I made earlier:

No you haven't to be fair the 2nd paragraph was a more general point I was making as many (not necessarily yourself) are under the illusion that this is an easy division to get out of its not and takes alot of hard work.

My first paragraph was in respone to what you said which was that we can't change what has happened in the past so their ain't much point complaining about it. We have to get on with the here and now just because this club has not achieved sucess in gaining promotion in the last decade or so doesn't mean that it can't happen in future.

  11. Middlesborough? didnt they go down shortly after their new ground was built?

Nobody is jumping in oldham to invest as people should be doing!

Interest is slow in terms of investment and thats a fact.

Yes Middlesborough went straight down but went straight back up and have stayed their ever since Long term these developments help clubs. Their hasn't been any rumour in the press about TTA leaving this is the first I have heard of it, and I think it is just that a rumour you maybe right but I will only believe it when I see it.

  12. For the nth time-why should it be up to the fans to map out a way forward for the club? No football club is particularly interested in the opinion of the fans on any crucial issue. What they are primarily interested in is our hard-earned cash.

The point about what might have been is relevant in that the failure to capitalise on the club's only opportunity to significantly grow in stature is the precise reason why we are stuck where we are and why clubs that were far, far below us back then comfortably sail past us.

As I say above, stupidly, I still suffer when Latics do badly and fail to make progress, and no less than those who wear the blue-tinted specs.

The past is exactly that the past. No point in moaning about it we can't do anything about it what we can do something about is the here, now and the future. On the same basis just because we have struggled in this divison in the past doesn't mean we can't get out of it in the future.

For those who continually slag of the quality of this divison is it really that easy to get out of? you ask the fans of Leeds Nottingham Forest, Sheffield Wednesday, Bristol City, Stoke City and even our massive firends from down the road Manchester City. All big clubs who have been in this divison in the last 10 years and non of them won it! But as the fans of Colchester, Southend, Scunthorpe, Rotherham, Walsall, Blackpool ( just a few teams who have gained promotion to the divison above in the last 10 years who have comparitive resources to our own) will tell you it is possible. I for one will cling to that hope and thats what will keep me coming to BP if that makes me a "Happy Clapper" then so be it I don't care.

  13. You can't undermine what hasn't been said. I didn't say that we had comparable spending power but, simply, that it is galling to see us left standing by clubs historically smaller or no bigger than we are, whatever the reason, particularly when this club failed to build for the future on the basis of success that it will never see again.

The days of the likes of myself expecting us to win every game are long, long gone, meanwhile.

I fail to see how from 6th to 12th in the table can be construed as progress particularly when the aim was said to be promotion.

As for realism, what this really means in our context is unquestioning acceptance of eternal mediocrity or worse. Fine for those who get off on that kind of thing, I guess.

So what do we do about it then no point in moaning about the past what might have been come on tell us how we can compete with Donny and Swansea then?

You remind me of someone who just sits there moans about something feeling sorry for themselves and never does anything about it I don't have much time for people like that.

INJURED Gretna star Fabian Yantorno will quit the crisis-club this week – with Oldham Athletic heading the queue for his signature.

The talented South American playmaker has not kicked a ball for two months after suffering knee ligament damage but Gretna will not stand in his way – because the skint Borderers can’t afford to pay for his rehab treatment.

Yantorno needs specialist care as he begins the road back to fitness but he has not been short of offers from clubs who are keen to secure his services for next season after doctors told him he would make a complete recovery.

The 25-year-old forward - signed last summer from Mirimar Misiones in his native Uruguay - could also be a target for his old gaffer Davie Irons, now at Morton.

Gretna caretaker boss Mick Wadsworth said: “We can not give Fabian the care he needs. The chances of him signing next year after what has happened at the club were non-existent anyway.”

Gretna’s other foreign stars Aurelien Collin and Mickael Buscher will have their contracts ripped up by the club tomorrow as both have asked to leave.

Central defender Collin has already been linked with Barnsley.

Players are awaiting a decision from FIFA on whether they can move outside of the transfer window – a move which could see central defender Chris Innes also quit this week.

Uncertainty over Gretna’s future also saw highly-regarded physio Kenny Crichton leave following yesterday’s 3-0 defeat to Celtic after he was snapped up by SPL rivals Falkirk, while award-winning groundsman Paul Barnett has also left the club which was plunged into administration two weeks ago.

Ah Doncasters next signing how are you?

  15. Am with Luke on this one people go on about Ronnie Moore long boring football but we got the points. i can see Shez has the right idea about smart quick passing football but where is it getting us?

It predictable when we do have the ball players keep hold of it far to long and by the time they do shoot its to late. Personally i want us to win every game but have said since Christmas when we lost Killkenny we have not replayed him, Wellans or really Porter.

Other teams have injuries but manage to cope?

Thing is tom its not just 2 or 3 player or even 4 or 5 its a large proportion of our squad missing. If we were missing 2 or 3 then we should be able to cope but its considerably more than that.

I agree with you on looking for a new centre mid in the summer Allot has been excellent. Macca has done ok. Its not worked out for Kalala, and am not convinced about Jarrett or Livermoore. We will need cover in that area.

  16. Like I said last week. Most of the injuries have been known for weeks, months and even most of the season in cases of Gregan/Liddell. The only real one we can go on about at the moment in my opinion is the recent one of Crossley - though the fact we didnt have cover brought in after Pogs was forced to quit through injury was shooting ourselves in the foot.

Think we hoped Gregen would be back by now. We also hoped Hughes would be back but his injuries have had a set back. Craig Davies's injury was worse than first thought. Lewis Allesandra is thrown in then he gets injured we sign Jordan Robertson and within a week hes limped off back to Sheffield injured. John Thompson limped off today after coming back from a long term injury it just seems to keep happening. Tell you what I'm absolutely amazed Stam hasn't broke down yet what with his injury record. However I definately think we need to address the physio situation because it doesn't help us at all to have a key backroom staff member missing.

  17. didnt scouse ronnie get the boot for poor season ticket sales, if it happens it will be interesting to see what happens to shez.

True but the anti Ronnie feeling was much higher than the anti shez feeling more people blamed moore than have done for shez.

2 reasons for this firstly shez has given loyal service to OAFC down the years as a player a coach and now a manager. Secondly we have a the worst casualty list since the Black Death so shez has had to chop and change his side and has had to change his plans time and time again this season and most fans can appreciate this to extent.

  18. Thought the lad played well for 12mins showing some good movement Should have been a RED as I have no doubts he would have scored from there !!! If Lewis is still not fit for Donny on Monday would play him and Constantine, Smalley on right thought young keeper showed some good mobility (but to much for the goal what was he doing there ) Did anyone hear what Shez said to Jarrett?

He does have pretty decent movement and does get into some good positions hence his goal at Port Vale which was sublime but if we are trying to get into the championship we need a player with a bit more to his game. Should be given a start on monday though IMO as we play better with 2 wingers and 2 strikers. We looked dreadful up until we started playing with a proper 4-4-2 in fact that first hour was as bad a game of football as you are likely to see from 2 professional sides.

  19. Never gonna happen.

The FA are toothless since they sold themselves down the river with the formation of the Premier League. There had been conflict between the Football League and the Football Association for years and when the large clubs approached the FA to support them in their plans for the Prem the FA saw it as their chance to finally assert themselves over the FL. The FA did not request any power, in fact they ceded power to the Premier League in return for thirty pieces of silver - (Well it is Easter after all!)

Plus these days with employment regulations and laws, freedom of movement, non-restraint of trade laws..etc.. the Fa, the FL, the govt, clubs or anyone hasn't got a leg to stand on beyond self-regulation but this is as likely as turkeys voting for Christmas to continue the biblical theme.

Spot on its a nice idea of the premier league sharing out right across the board but it would never happen. The whole reason why the premier league was formed was because the big 5 which at the time was Arsenal Man Utd, Liverpool Tottenham and Everton wanted a larger share of the tv revenue which was at the time shared right through all 4 divisions despite the fact that only a handful of games were shown on tv and these involved the bigger teams. The only way that this could happen was to breakaway from the Football League so they did along with 22 other clubs we were one of them.

  20. Good to see the attitides of many on this thread lets keep going if we don't make it it won't be the end of the world but lets give the play offs a damn good go If we have given it a damn good go and have missed out narrowly I won't be hugely disappointed If we can give the excuse of injuries and inexperience then fair enough atleast it won't be through a lack of effort.

  21. Lol....I just find it sadly ironic to see you talking about our attendances when you couldn't be arsed to turn up for FA Cup games like Donny and Crewe at home

Carry on though....I'll sit back and laugh at the hypocrisy of it all

To be fair OAFC0000 he is someone who turns up pretty regularly by all accounts having a pop at people on here is the wrong place as the people that use this site are the ones who go regularly and as often as possible.

While I appreciate that like you I look around BP and feel a little miffed at the empty seats, what do we do when the good times roll around again (and despite what a few say on here they will at some point) and we are in the championship in a nice new stadium with a 10000 average. Do we turn the thousands of extra people away on the grounds that they weren't their to see us get beat 1-0 against Hartlepool back on 04/03/08.

Sadly the reality is that these are the market forces that a football club has to deal with the better we are doing the more fans we attract the worse we do the less we attract its always been like that for every football club in the world and always will be whether we like it or not am sure TTA as shrewd business people are well aware of this before they took on the mantle of being Gaurdians of OAFC.

  22. Well more fool you....

We have not got the consistancy to go up this season. But we are a good young side and IF (and its a big if) we can old on to these good youngesters and add to the sqaud next term then I see no reason why we cant go for it.

Alot of doom and gloom merchants on here making mountains out of mole hills. I fully expected us to get beat by Luton and I am surprised so many didnt. But for people to be once again attacking the manager, coaching staff and players again then I find that sad. These doom and gloom merchants have been slient over the last two games sliently sharpenning their swords......need to take a look at yourselfs guys....

While I can step back and look at the bigger picture and see that overall this is a young team and things I think are going in the right direction. You cannot slag people off for giving up a day spending a fair wedge of the wages going to watch their team aiming at the play offs and get tonked by a team who are already doomed to relegation in march and have not won in 15 and then being a little :censored: off about it. If you are honestly expecting people not to moan about that it must be you with the low IQ.
