  1. not looking forward to geting laughed at by the l***s fans for taking a poxy number of fans over to one of our biggest games this season, o wel ktf ...oafc...

Don't be such a wimp! Are you actually bothered about leeds fans mocking us for our attendances. If thats so important to you and me we would be of down the road to Old trafford. We ain't Latics is our club I'm sure those that do will get behind the boys heartily

Oh and by the way I am one of the glory hunters who prefers to go to Everton rather than Leeds. Its so sad only people who watch every minute of every game plus every reserve and youth game should be allowed to go to this one. Certainly not season ticket holders who disgustingly pick and choose their away games call ourselves supporters

    ggggggggggggggggggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. We've done this one until the cows come home, it all came to a head during the Summer of Hell, when City came over for a friendly, the attendance was widely questioned that day too from within the JK Latics regulars. To counter this Alan Hardy offered 3 fans the chance to openly observe how the attendance for matches at BP is compiled. (I was one of the three, Mike Stott being one of the others) The system is fully computerised with monitors showing how the ground is filling in the boardroom, the Police control box and in the office at the back of the Lookers Stand, all turnstiles have CCTV so no-one can drop the gateman a dodgy tenner and vault the turnstile etc... The figure given normally includes all complimenteries and the Corporates and sponsors etc... often there is a marginal difference in the final figure but usually nothing too drastic. The club has to withold a small percentage of its capacity due to FL rules and as stipulated in its Safety Certificate granted on an annual basis by the Local Authority, GMP & GMF&RS, possibly around 3%, it was 4 years ago so that figure may or may not be right, email AH he will clarify) If the club was found guilty of any wrong doing then its safety certificate would be revoked and immediate suspension from the Football League would follow. In a nutshell, manipulating the attendance is nigh on impossible at BP.

What Prozac has said their answers the question this rumour has been circulating for years on various messageboards. Yet knowone in this thread or during that time ever comes up with hard evidence that we are fidling the figures apart from statements such as "it looked fuller than that" If this had been the case we would have done over years ago for this.

    WE AIN'T DOING ANYTHING ILLEGAL

  3. I don't think we'll play against a poorer midfield. Lennon was laughable in midfield for them, we should have really punished them.

Disagree strongly if that had been the case we would have been given time and space on the ball we got neither granted they didn't create much but they defended well Kilkenny was coming deeper and deeper to collect the ball and thats why we had to resort to long balls. They weren't their for the taking they came for a point and dug in stuck 5 across the middle and stifled the game.

Can't see why their is so much negativity on this thread we are moving forward we are now 11 unbeaten we don't need to change anything yet.

  4. i would imagine like has already been said he will be given until the end of the season, then the club always have an option of a 12 month extension.

if we get promoted one way or the other,i doubt he would feature in many games, and seeing as shez says he is one of his leaders, would hope the club offer him some form of coaching role to help out the young players coming through.

    you cant knock his experience.

I think thats what we will do at the end of this season providing that he does contribute between now and the end of the season we kept giving eyrsie 12 month contracts maybe that kept him on his toes the motivation to play for a new contract at the end of the season.

I don't think a right sided player would be a priority in jan I think the left side should be the main focus. On the right we have Liddell and while he doesn't offer width and isn't a natrual winger allot does a good job on the right side of midfield. Davies spends time out their, Taylor is essentially a right sided player who canplay on the left. Behind them we have Smalley who is still developing so 5 players can do a job for us in that position yet on the left we have only Taylor and Ryan Bertrand who is our only out and out left sided player and he maybe leaving in January.

  5. I have never understood why Andy liddel has often got grief from the fans particularly those wo say he doesn't put a challenge in. He's a winger for gawd sake! The best wingers in my time supporting latics Rick Holden, David Eyres and Neil Adams were any of them famed for putting in a challenge? maybe its the same people who were of the school that Paul Warne was the equivalent of white pele because he possesed that magical skill of running around alot.

The other night I went to see a match not involving Latics. Upfront for the away side was a player who never tracked back hardly ever put in a challenge all night and waited for the ball to come to him. Yet he occupied the back four on his own and was the best player on the pitch It was Dimitar Berbatov for Spurs v's City.

  6. I will go with Davies on the grounds that he is one of the most natrually talented players Ive seen where a Latics shirt. He can be a s good as he wants to be. Although it doesn't mean he is the best player yet I expect him to be long term. Still can't get my head around people who said that all Porter did was just knock in tap ins thats all strikers have to do. If football was all about moving about and looking like you gave 100% then Paul warne wouldn't be sat on the bench at yeovil and Gary Linekar wouldn't have been one of Englands greatest ever stikers.

  7. I would suppose that the report had been considered in detail before the Planning officers decided to recommend it for approval - all the report is (should have been) needed for is if, after hearing the presentations, one of the committee asked how the development would affect traffic. The report is produced, they learn that it will only cause one car per rush hour traffic light phase, they decide this is insignificant, they move on. There's nothing more to be had from it.

So they knew what the traffic implicacations were really its just that now he realise that the wrong decision was made he's just trying to save face?

I wonder what said councilors would do if were part of a planning committee in glossop the valley is a nightmare for traffic with everything going from Manchester to Sheffield with no bypass.

  8. I respect your opinions BB80, but, unless my eyes deceived me yesterday, I saw too many occasions where Davies was on the wing WITH Liddell or Taylor so that when he did get the ball across, not enough bodies in the box. Taylor, for me, absolutely roasted their full back with Bertrand giving good support with Liddell and Eardley (although not as effectively, I agree) doing something similar on the other side.

Is this a throw back to Taylor having a long run of poor games and now Davies can't break the habit? Open to discussion obviously but, if they can produce wing play like that every week and Davies can stay in the middle more (although I still think Hughes / Smalley is a dangerous combo), I go with you as I honestly believe he will be a better asset.

Now For me I don't necessarily mind Daives drifting wide the reason being is that a striker who drifts like that is very difficult for a defence to pick up. If you have 2 out and out strikers it pretty easy for 2 centre halfs to just man to man mark them. But if you have one guy who drifts out to the wings and goes in the hole then its very difficult for a defence to pick him up. This works well if you have another striker who is first in the box and gets on the end of crosses which Jevons would you would think be able to do and is avery good call.

My problem with Davies is that he tries to be abit too hollywood by trying to take on everyone or an over ambitious shot or pass which is great and it sometimes works for him but he sometimes needs to do the simple thing too. I think he can be as good as he wants to be he just need to learn the game abit more and what bhe can and can't do.

  9. The only way we are going to get goals is by getting the ball down the flanks and behind defences. Unfortunately Eardley just won't stop hoofing a long diagonal ball toward the oppositions centre back.

Maybe it's not all his fault - We all know Liddell won't take a man on, so why give him the ball? We could always move Lids inside where he is most threatening, and switch Taylor to the right where he might form an understanding with Eardley, and those overlapping runs that we need from Full Backs may just start happening.

The ball was whipped across only a couple of times on Saturday, but one of them provided Ricketts' best chance with a powerful header at goal - that's what we need more of.

As for our static midfield, if the play is going on in the opponents half, that is where they'll push up to, but when the ball is hoisted over them only to be headed back to our defence, they are always going to play more defensive roles themselves.

There are a lot of criticisms I have with the current squad which are best kept to myself, but the two greatest problems to overcome are the lack of common sense, and the ability to play the simple ball.

So there you have it. Switch Taylor, stop the hoof, think about your next move and keep the passing simple. It doesn't take a quality manager to introduce those measures.

Can't see how Neal Eardley is getting the flak on this thread the worst Oldham player on saturday was Neil Kilkenny who had his worst game in a blue shirt in my opinion followed by the rest of midfield which is clearly the week point in the team at the moment.

  10. Like a line from Shameless.

"If Macca/(Frank) is the answer. What the *bleep* is the question?"

Taylor needs to be dropped. Push Bertrand up to left mid/wing

If we are going to push bertrand up to left mid who slots in at the vacated left back slot? This is part of the problem at the moment we have a distinct lack of cover on that side of the pitch thats why we can't drop taylor (who needs some time out of the team) as we have knowone who can come in. yet at the same time we have 3 players who can play on the right Smalley, Liddell, and Taylor the squad looks alittle unbalanced.

If its at all possible in january we need atleast 1 more left sided player either left back or left midfielder because we are weak interms of depth down that side.

  11. See the moaners are in abundance today...

Is one point better than no points...... errr.... YES

Is scoring a goal better than scoring no goals.....errrr.... YES

Did we create enough CHANCES to put the game away (that had we had two first team strikers on we might have scored)...errr... YES

Did we have a goalkeeper who hasnt even trained with our team ... err... YES

Did we only have one first team striker on the pitch... errr... YES (See above about chances)

All the factors cannot be thrown to one side, we have a keeper who doesnt know his defence, we have two FIRST TEAM strikers out (Wolfy is NOT first team, playing in the first team is different to having 50 first team games under your belt), we got a point away from home, we scored.

Why can't people see this as a positive? Yes we should have won, yes Huddersfield were there for the taking but we didnt win. Get over it, take the positives and MOVE ON! We should be looking at Donny tommorow now. Saying right well Taylor should be dropped, wonder if Hughesy will be on the bench etc etc. Not brood on something that has been and gone.

I know that going into tommorows game I will be more confident in Beresford because he will atleast had chance to say hello to his captain and fellow defenders before he plays a game. I know that Rico will be back, I know that Craig Davies will be as goal hungry as ever after scoring a cracker on Saturday.

Now I'm all for taking the positives out of any situation but at the same time we can't be blind to the reality of the situation that we are 20th and looking ordinary. If your satisfied with what you saw on saturday then fair enough. I'm not we can do better and if we harbour any hopes of getting the play offs we need to wake up and realise the season is on because at the moment our hopes of making the top 6 which is what we should be aiming for are sliding away. We really should of imposed ourselves on that second half and we didn't and it cost us.

  12. YOU DONT KNOW THAT! You dont know what,if any deals, Porter turned down before going to scotland. You dont know what intrest, if any, had been expressed by other clubs. Not every club signals in the public domain what players they are intrested or have enquired about.

What we do know is that the majority latics fan, rival suppoters and club expected him to leave in the summer. The only way he would of done that for nothing is going to another country. What we do know is that if a club had to pay a transfer fee for him this would more than likely restrict is wage. Not the case if he went to another country. What we do know is that he suddenly out of the blue was off to scotland.....

I will repeat YOU HAVENT GOT A CLUE what offers were submitted or were about to be submitted... ANd you HAVENT GOT A CLUE what intrest had been put to the club in the background....

Thats why your post is completly unfounded....

So do we know that for a fact other clubs were interested as well as motherwell in Porter. You say we can't prove that their wasn't interest from other clubs but at the same time can you prove their WAS concrete offers from clubs to us to buy porter and did he turn down anyone say in the championship for a chance to go to Motherwell?

Plus he's a footballer not a fan he will be loyal to a club if it suits him meaning if they offer the best terms and he is no different to any other player.

  13. Thats just not true...

Wellen is a midfielder...he has both defensive and attacking parts to his game....

You could play them both together no problems....

Sorry but it wouldn't work its the same reason why Gerrard and Lampard can't play together and they have both attacking and defensive sides to their game. I rate Wellens don't get me wrong I can't say I really have anything against him for leaving to Donny for more money either. Football is a short career and they have to make the most of it. But if we were to get in someonelse now i think other areas of the team would need strengthening apart from a goalkeeper at the moment we could do witha a full time left back, or left sided midfielder. A highly paid player competing in a position where we already have 4 players should not be what we should be looking for at the moment.

  14. Sorry he has to shoulder some of the blame for this not all of it the players should shoulder it aswell. But Shez has picked the team and signed the players. In fact the only Ronnie Moore signing on the pitch was Andy Liddell so we can't use that excuse.

The last three gtames Ive seen have all been 1-0 defeats where we have gone behind and have not shown the nouse or nastiness to break a team down. I think alot of this comes from the midfield we are note creating anything McDonald was anonimous Allot played a few sideways passes but needs to be brave and try something different.

I'm for sacking shez yet but we HAVE to get better as supporters patience is starting to wear thin

  15. Yes we do need a run in this competition, because winning, at any level, breeds confidence. As for optimism or pessimism, well, I'll be suicidal if we lose tonight!!

I disagree, would have liked to see us feilded a few changes tonight would have been good to have given a few younger lads a chance in this competition, and say to them if we win you will play in the next round. Would give them some first team experience in an environment where their is less pressure than if we are in the league. We ain't going to learn anything we don't know already about liddell and Greagen tonight and I would have liked to have seen those two inparticular rested.

  16. Do we really need a run in the johnstones paint trophy though? Just another distraction from the league. Can see the point of the league cup and the fa cup cause we can make abit of money but this one their ain't any money to be made. This is one thing I will be happy to be out of if we get to the championship which is looking a hell of a long way off at the moment granted.

  17. Well generally I like to consider myself an optimist but at the same time I like to keep my feet on the ground really. So while many seemed to think after swansea we would walk away with the league I was relatively cautious about this season. But at the same time as now where we haven't had a great start I'm not panicing and thinging that its all over.

Think many people who want to see changes (those that you consider pessimists) might consider themselves realists and that those who think everything is fine are just wearing blue tinted glasses. All about opinions really innit.

I think people on the whole are generally positive about The owners our management and about the team.

If i'm honest I would happily take seeing us in the top ten going into the new year. Aslong as the foundations have been laid for an asault on promotion. By that I mean that the players have gelled shez has worked out our weeknesses and our strength and has got the team playing to those strengths, and the squad has been fine tuned. If last season taught us anything then it is that its best not to peak to early. If we go into the new year ready for a real late season charge then that will do me.

  18. Are we really going to get £1.5million for these two. If it happened today then no and as you have reiterated BigFin you aren't suggesting then they wouldn't fetch that much. Selling them at the end of the season? It depends how good a season we have if we win promotion and they are a focal point of that then offers will come in.

I for one think that league 1 is their level at the moment in the future maybe they will go on to grace a bigger stage but we have seen young players come through the youth ranks and look promising only for that promise to fade away and they spend the rest of their careers in the footballing backwaters.

I don't think their value has peaked yet at all lets keep hold of them then for now. Their maybe a time to sell them now now isn't it.

  19. To the tune of will hainings song.
