  1. Just wondering if it isn't about time the captain took some responsibility here, be that Eardley or Allott. If it's not working and Taylors confidence is taking a bashing then surely the captain should be big enough to either say "give it here, I'll take it" or tell someone else to have a go. Whats the point of being captain if you say nowt.

Don't you think its more to do with the mamangement. We have been persisting with these short corners since sheridan became manager can anyone tell me when they have resulted in a goal? Because I can't remember. In fact half the time we take it short it gets passed back and two men then come out and press the ball and we don't even get a cross in at all nevermind one that beats the first man.

I don't want to be overly critical after the fantastic performance last night but it seems very little thought or practice goes into them at all.

  2. Allesandra for me Its not very often you see a young lad come on like he did yesterday put his foot on the ball knowing he had the ability to do something with it. I thought it would be a big ask of him when he came on how he responded though! and by the end of the game the defence was running scared and the crowd were sat on the edge of their seats anticipating him to do something.

To be fair you could make a case for a number of players Jarret made an excellent debut. Allot was his usual model of consistency, Smalley who is improving all the time Macca and taylor both looked like the players back on top of their game. Thats before you mention the defence who didn't give Carlisle a sniff on goal.

Fantastic performance about time we had something to sing about at home too.

  3. To be fair, he might not be a million miles away on that point. If Chelsea charge their usual prices and get a full house (alright that might not be too likely) then 42,449*£48*0.45=£916,898.40. Not a million, but not far short.

But don't forget OS that Chelsea are in the final of the carling cup they are still fighting for the premiership and they are still in the champions league. Now I know they have more money than most in west London But are they still all going to want to pay through tne nose knowing that that they will have more glamorous games to go to. Last season they didn't shift all their tickets for the semi final at Old trafford. 48 quid would put a few off from going down south when you take into account travel costs excetera you are looking at well over a ton chances are they will knock the price down quite heavily for this one. Mind you if its on tv that might make up for the short fall so maybe he ain't too far off after all.

  4. lol

im trying to get a bit of middle ground,i understand why some would not want us to 'break the bank'the fact is we have only had TWO recognized strikers for quite a while(im discounting ricketts)so why the hell have we not brought SOMEONE in,pls dont mention smalley wolfenden as they quite clearly do not cut it.

smalley uptop on sat, jesus when i think about it now i should have staked a bag of sand on saturday

Don't you think we are already in that middle ground I mean we are losing 15k aweek which TTA are funding and will still be prepared to give us a little more money fromtheir own pockets again not ours if the right player comes along.

What I will agree with you on is that we do need some new signings quickly as like you I am worried about the quality of the side and like you I think we are seriously short of cover up top Wolfy I don't think will cut it and Smalley I think will but over time with the right nurturing and attitude and probably as a right winger. But TTa have said there is the money available its upto the management team to find that player worth the money.

  5. stop worrying about tta's pockets, they will get their return now, anyway have you forgot they wanted to pull the plug if the development was rejected?

or maybe the fact that they were considering their futures after the porter saga might jolt you into realising they dont give a stuff about the worry and anxiety they caused the average latics fan....

Threatening to pull out was a message to the council urging them to back the plans or otherwise they had to pull out because they couldn't keep putting money into a loss making business. It worked The council changed their minds and accepted the proposal leaving us with a nice new stadium to look forward too. Yes TTA will make money from this and am sure this one of their intentions when they bought the club, we get a new stadium which will make Oldham Athletic more money and strengthen the future of the club. We could of course just turf them out in the vain hope that someone will come in and be prepared to just bankroll the club forever. We could of course just told them to go away before they got here when the club was on its death bed and then what would have happened?

  6. chris moore was a **** and if i saw him in the street i'd be letting him know.

my issue is that i do not trust the owners as my opinion is that they are only interested in the land(and their disgraceful antics after porter/and the initial council rejection threatening to oull the plug have been conviniently forgotton by the majority it seems)

i have not said we should be signing players we cannot afford have i? the players are stupidly overpaid.

    hth

Now I'm confused your saying we should only sign players that are within the budget? Yet at the start of this thread you were saying that TTA didn't gamble enough money last week on signing a player who could of got us into the 5th round?

  7. And so the finale,Hudds will make a million or more,i think its fair to say with ANY balls the club could have sugned a decent striker and he would have payed for himself in 90mins.

utterly distgusted and if troman goes for 350k then the motives of these owners will be clear for all to see

and yes they can whistle for my money if they sell at that price.

words dont describe the way this club is being run

    *cue abuse from the lemmings

Congratulations go to jerzybalowski for the stupidest post of the season. I cannot believe that when Tottenham said they would be prpepared to sell Berbatov for 30 million quid this january TTA sat their like numpties and wouldn't cough up the money madness! Incidentally where do you get the figure 1 million plus from because we would only get 45% of the gate money. If you have a problem why not buy the club? its heamoraging money out of TTa's pockets to the tune of 15000 pound a week and thats before we get to the cost of redeveloping the stadium and adding to the squad.

One more thing how would a striker have garuranteed us a win saturday we didn't create many chances did we. Would he have scored from one of Taylors crosses that didn't beat the first man?

  8. ???? Im not blaming the fans...aka moaners in the ground for us loseing....im trying to stick up for shez....what happened to ronnie started like this and I wasnt vocal enough...people who liked ronnie werent vocal enough....im standing up for a manager i want given time...even if he wasnt my choice for the job may i add....im just saying other fans should do as well!

People are behind shez if we did a poll on this site asking should he stay or go the majority would come out unanimously on his side He sitill has the respect of the fans. We are along way from the situation we were under Ronnie Moore where a large percentage of people wanted shot of him early on and it gathered momentum over the course of the season. Any concerns about Sheridan now could be quashed very quickly with a couple of astute signings if he doesn't do that then the mumrours of discontent will grow louder and louder and knowone wants that.

Shez can only work with what hes got which at the moment isn't alot. Some new plaeyrs will give him new options.

  9. Hmmmm....ten times £200,000..... £2,000,000? Wow, that would be some fifth round!

Yes, Chris Taylor had a bad day at the office today, particularly with his corner delivery. I was lucky enough to be in the portakabin today, and CT came in after the game. No one knows more than him that his form has dipped. Believe me.....he knows! What he does do however is keep trying......something which we should applaud him for. In fairness to him, Huddersfield had done their homework on him and double tagged him in the second half. In fact sometimes 2 marked him with a further man dropping off. What we didnt make the most of was playing the ball through the middle.

Bumped into Wellens at half time too.

Classic line from Gordon Lawton to Sean Jarvis...........Well done today, I hope you get Bristol Rovers

Thats what I was thinking Roytoner 2 million quid!!!!!!:lol::lol::lol: we wouldn't get that even if we won at a sell out Old trafford and it was on tv and radio to boot.

  10. Latic fans run Ronnie out of town by not buying season tickets pleading for Shez to be put in charge.....and now Shez is slowing becoming the anti christ.....

Apparently he has "no plan B", is "tactically inept" and cant get players in to the club......well you lot put him there!!!!!!

Its all a little two faced in my opinion......

Now is the time for some of you lot to develope some nuts and stick by the man you all wanted.....no.....you all demanded!!!!!!

Can you stop coming out with all this drivel blaming it all on the fans. Without wanting to state the bleeding obvious we all need to back the team we all know that. But if we were to go down this season (not an impossibility unless we get some signings in) it won't be because of the moaners and groaners. Man United sit at the top of the premiership is that because they have the best fans then is it? Or is it because they have the best team.

At the moment we are missing our experienced pros Liddel Gregan and yesterday Hughes to help some of the young lads through on top of that we need a player who's natrual position is left back plus someone who can create from midfield and be able to take a decent corner/free kick. Plus a striker as davies has gone off the boil.

I don't see many shez out comments at the moment but this is a big week we need to get someone in a couple of players could be all the difference at the moment if we don't then we could have a repeat of 2004-05 a big Fa cup win followed by a crawl over the line to safety with an inexperienced side.

  11. In tonight's Chron, there is an article penned by Tony Carss. The footnote reads....

    -----------------------------------

I WOULD like to mention Harold Dean, a lifelong Latics fan who passed away on the morning of the third-round victory over Everton.

I attended his funeral and was reminded of the deep passion which genuine football fans have for their team.

Harold, I’m sure that tomorrow you will be looking down on Boundary Park, where I was extremely proud to have played for YOUR team!

    -----------------------------------

    What a guy!! :imnotworthy::applause1::applause1:

What a salt of the earth diamond geezer he is whatever he's doing now i wish him all the luck in the world with it.

  12. Thats a great link diego and it does ring true and does pick you up when sometimes you feel like why do I bother in reality about 80% of my happiness from watching Latics comes from about 20% of my time watching us. A lot of what we see season in season out is forgetable some games just fade in to the past but their are those few stand out moments each season that do make it all worthwhile. One thing football has at football league level that you don't get in the premiership is alot more unpredictability. We can all and could all guess who would be the top 4 in the premiership this season and we would be atleast 75% right if we tried to guess the top 4 for the next premiership season. But you couldn't do that with league 1 right now for this season. Not many of us thought we would get to the play offs last season, Not many thought we would do leeds and everton on the road this year. You look at 2007 plenty of ups and downs as long as their are those ups and downs and those moments of unpredictability which keep us coming back .

I can understand where you are coming from Prozac regarding football being a seemingly a win at all costs culture it has drifted a long way from being a sport now. I can sympathise with referees sometimes its a thankless task I do wonder sometimes if the next time a big game is being played and the 100k a week players are screeming in the refs faces what they would do if the ref and the linesmen just collectively walked off and left the players to sort it out themselves. I do think fifa should allow referees and linesmen this alternative if players and managers are not going to conduct themselves appropriately to just abandon the game and dock the team responsible 3 points. Then again thinking about it if huddersfield get a dodgy penalty in the last minute tomorrow I will be out of my seat screaming every obsenity at the referee and its that passion that keeps us going. Its even these discussions in the pub or on owtb that keep us going.

We always seem to find a reason to come back for more in. 2002 after the ITV digital collapse people thought that alt least 30 fl clubs would go to the wall and guess what its 2008 and their are 92 proffesional league clubs and another string of full time clubs in the blue square premier. Despite the fact that for much of its 113 year history this club has been a loss making business its still here it has survived and the redevelopment of the stadium is likely to mean it survives for much longer yet. The history of OAFC has plenty more interesting chapters to be written yet good and bad we might see one tomorrow.

  13. Upfront on saturday. With Smalley on the right taylor on left kalala and macca in middle I think that Allott up front is our best option. Hes more experienced to lead the line in such a big game and he knows how to hit a ball. Hed be a far more better option tha Wolfenden who for me is nowhere near gtood enough to play League One football. He barely cuts it at reserve level. Bring on the bollokings now for my comments. I just think it would give us the right midfield without leaving anyone out aswell. Two attacking wingers a defensive mid and a free floating mcdonald

IMO I would push macca slightly further forward playing just behind Davies, and have kalala and allot behind him playing the yard dogs and smalley and taylor on right and left repectively. Thinking being that Macca is better in the air than Allot and allots best games have come in midfield. Plus if we are going if we are going to play wingers we will want people to get on the end of crosses. Like you unfortunately I don't see wolfy cutting it for us.

We need a big performance from Davies saturday as he will be expected to lead the line. Come on craig you know you have it in you be our match winner.

  14. I thought putting square pegs in round holes was what we are trying to get away from?

Correct Chris Taylor is a winger one that can play right or left but a winger not a central midfielder or a striker or anything else really I don't really like seeing him at left back either if we can avoid it he plugs a hole granted when played there but its not his best position like seeing him pushed on taking on defenders thats his main attribute.

  15. Didn't we arrange a loan in recent years whereby we agreed a fee at the start of the loan period that we could take up providing that the loan spell was successful? Don't know why, but I seem to think it may have been Mark Hughes?

I don't think that this would necessarily guarantee a future signing due to personal terms, but may give us an additional level of protection against Doncaster and Leeds.

I think that was Luke Beckett that we did that with.

I think the situation clarke is in is similar to that of becket i.e. an out of favour striker from a championship club knows that if he is sold it will be to a league one club with league 1 wages and like anyoneelse doesn't want to be earning half or less than half of what hes earning now. So to compensate he goes out on loan where he still keeps his championship contract and is kept in the shop window as a result of playing regular football. I would imagine that if we got him it would be a loan deal hopefully until the end of the season then we can take it from there.

  16. Do people think there'll be that much demand for Udders tickets?

    I don't, sadly.

We will get a bigger attendance for this one than the league game defo but not a sell out. Both teams are going into it of big wins in round 3 and both teams and fans will be thinking this is winnable so about 10k I think is not unreasonable with a split of around 6800 tics and 3200 hudders roughly.

  17. Couple of lads behind me (Including a Liverpool fan) went for a pint with about 5 minutes to go.

Glad I couldn't be bothered even trying to go for a pint as I was topped up from the train and session in Coopers Bar & Wetherspoons.

Why would anyone have wanted to leave early to get a pint yesterday. I can understand people going early at HT and missing the goal or if we being slaughtered. But surely what is the point of going full stop if you were going to leave early yesterday. The celebrations will of yesetrday will live long in the memory for everyone who was part of them. I don't understand some people I really don't

  18. "But with their tangerine tops, they looked like Holland in disguise - and Johan Cruyff himself would have been proud of the goal which proved decisive a minute into first-half injury time"

    taken from the sunday people

    Are we Holland

    Are we Holland

    Are we Holland in disguise

    Are we Holland in disguise

  19. History has proved that he couldn't cut it as a manager, but to be fair to him we could have put anyone in that position and they would still have struggled the rot had firmly set in and we were going backwards quickly. History has also proved that JW Lees should have sold up when we went down from the premier league because a) They would have got a better price for their shares B) They had no plans to do anything with the club anyway. Imagine had someone with the vision such as TTA took over us at that point things might just might have been alittle different.
