Holloway won next to nothing in the air in my opinion. Apart from a really unlucky headed effort first half. He Looked like he was going to hold it up but then fell over looking for a free kick. Ref was having none of it.
Davies won his first 3 headers and Holloway didn't gamble.

For me Fane is the defensive breaking up player which he is very good at. Tonight he was doing all the centre mid running for green who was non existent. If we can discipline fane and get a Palmer esc player along side / infront of him our midfield would be a lot better suited to the pace we have on our wings. Fane was caught out a number of times trying to drive us forward as green had nothing about him. Would have replaced him with fawns at Ht.
mcloughlin for me was superb on the left their right back didn't know what day it was. Strange move when shez moved him over to the right and as soon as he did that the game for us died of any energy. Tope looks so much more comfortable on the right so don't know why he changed it.
Defence needs a lot more work after tonight's showing but thought wilsons handling was superb. Just needs to come off his line abit more to reduce that pressure.
Finally the ref woeful. One of the worst I have seen in a while.
All in all not a bad game against a championship team. We are still developing so not expecting us to be fully firing till start of September. But massively need to kick on for that first win!
Have to disagree on Green. Thought he had a good game. Him and Fane were up against 3 in midfield.

I found Holloway a constant fruatration. A handful in very few patches but on the whole nowhere near aggressive enough. With his goal record he has to be an ox all game.
Despite all this he actually had 2 good efforts.

Is Mark van Bommel to you what Lionel Messi is to the rest of us?
Yes.

Looked a tidy enough player but didn't look mobile enough or interested in tackling to be able to play in a midfield two.
-
Mantack was poor but we shouldn't underestimate how hard it is playing out of position. He didn't use his left foot at all.
Stotts touch along with a few others let them down. Edmundson caught under the ball a few times too.

I get the impression from watching McLaughlin that he'd struggle anywhere on the left side of the pitch and the same goes for Dummigan, our left sided options consist of Hunt, Stott and Wilson and further forward Obadeyi and Flynn with the later probably capable of playing as a wing back at a push, not sure where another left sided players fits in as we have adequate options and don't want to overload the squad with players who we are unlikely to use.
Only one of them is naturally left footed though.

Banks gets a mention from Flitcroft too but that'll go unmentioned on here.

We'd have it plenty if only from shit league one players giving it away.
And once we had it we'd be able to do a lot more with it.
And further up the pitch further negating the need for a holding midfielder.
Fane, Green, Kelly, Smith, Wesolowski, Furman haven't exactly driven us on to success have they. (Don't get me wrong, I like Fane and I can see him exhibiting a bit more forward thinking than his predecessors this season if he doesn't move on)
Midfielders who can tackle, play a bit & score a bit are what's required.
We don't need a League One Kante.
Fair points. However we don't have midfielders who can do all that so we need ball winners too.

You do in the Champions League. You don't in League One.
Haha.
What do you think would happen if we had Banks and Gardner as our two central midfielders? Without Fane or someone like that breaking up play we wouldn't hardly have the ball.
-
You did once say to me (sober) that you don't need a holding midfielder Paddy.
-
I'd hope we would still be in the market for a natural left back as well, leaving Dummigan and Hunt to fight it out for rwb/ rb.
-
Must be a trialist or a new signing. Too old to be a youth player and not someone we had last season?
-
Catalan side Girona at home July 27th. Just promoted to La Liga.
-
If Gerrard turns up in the same shape he did last season he shouldn't be anywhere near the team. The lads on a 2 year deal too.

Who is he?
Tidy central midfielder. Played at BP for Wolves in the past.
-
Jack Price being linked to us. I'd be more than happy with him lining up for us next season.

Be interested to hear from one 1 of the 332 (poor following by our standards) as to how we played?

Why are you swearing?
Not from where I was sat. He was completely disinterested for the first half hour then came into it a little. I'm a fan of his but whichever opinion you have of his performance last night his goalscoring record is beyond unacceptable and he is rarely in the box.
