It was Crewe we took 1700 to.
I was surprised to read that. Never rated your away support.

Finally, after four and a half years, we meet again. At one point during our stay in hell I thought we'd be more likely to play Hyde United in a league game. The 'we'll never play you again' shouts probably held water.
Of course it's a rivalry! The games from when Ronnie came in and Ian joined in, to the end of our League One stay were as competitive as anything, and had some ups and downs for both of us (the 1-0 last minute when you lot went top in front of a wild BP was a sickener, but we also ruined Big Joe's day a couple years later). We both had quite a few boring seasons in that time and the games against each other added a bit of spice to the season. Mark Allott when he spent 5 minutes with us before we replaced Ronnie with Barnes even commented about how intense the games were and said that at Oldham the games against us were the first ones you lot looked for.
But, it's a competitive rivalry. From the first game Ronnie took charge of against you on the first day, you beat us 7 times, we beat you 6 times, 3 draws. Part of our stay in hell saw us take on Wrexham and Chester. Two very small fry teams stood next to us. But you lot were always legitimate, and often outperformed us, even if we had the edge at times. Whereas with them two we were clearly in a different league in more ways than one.
We rested McNulty and Banks tonight for Saturday, hard to know what to expect but our home form suits the way we play- we try and play on the front foot with energy and a bit of speed. On the road we've been caught out, but we've made PP a strong foundation. Not seen much of you but Callum Lang sounds like the danger man(?)
Anyway see you Saturday.
Surridge the danger but is likely to start on the bench as he is coming back from his third injury already this season.
If we can keep Norwood quiet I'm confident we can get s result. I spent large parts of last season questioning how Anthony Gerrard can be so fat for a footballer. What has happened with Steve McNulty?

Nah, a professional goalkeeper should be saving that all day long...
My thoughts exactly at the time. The one save Palmer had to make didn't deserve the credit it got either. It was a tame scuffed shot that he palmed back into danger.

I’d bring in Dummigan or Hamer for Taylor. His ‘left foot’ has been misfiring recently.
Put some decent balls in at the weekend, I thought.

He played ok in our good spell last year but so did fane and hardley anyone praises him. He kept it simple but now he can't seem to do that...
I don't hate him and its ridiculous to say i do... I just think hes average at best and we can do better.
Talking Oldham fans in general. They can't wait to jump on him.
Largely the forward brigade.

Nah I've seen enough of him cryuf turning into no mans land when there is a simple pass on to just know
I think that's why Oldham fans hate him. That's the right word too. The main stand can't wait to jump on him. He tries stuff, it doesn't always comes off.
I'd like to see him see the season out. Doubt we'd be able to sign better.

He's been relegated from league one twice... He's hardly a shining beacon of light in an average league two side. If someome offered ANY amount of money id snatch their hands ofd.
Hes not the sole reason we are where we are but he can go for me. I dont think we'd be any worse off without him.
I do like the way he gives 100% but you watch him. Hes generaly either chasing one of his misplaced passes, or chasing a man because he was out of position.
Is the system helping him... No... He picks the ball up too deep but even if we change that he wouldn't stand out. If he was as good as he thinks he is.... He wouldn't be with us.
What is he good at?
Running with ball? Too often goes down blind alleys
Getting us forward? Too often slows play down
Winning the ball? Nope
Bringing other players in? Holds oj too long
Dan Gardner would be a better player if he was too busy showing off Dan Gardner....
Why does he think he's really good?
Have you spoken to him?

Couldn't agree more and it well taste oh so sweet, just hope it's not in that piss pot excuse for a cup we have drawn Dale away in.
How many will we take to this?
My guess is 400

Oh, I can acknowledge it. Great counter attack led by him. Why can't you acknowledge he was fucking dogshit for 88 minutes?
He gave the ball away in key areas on a number of occasions. I don't think there's an Oldham fan out there who would say his distribution can be poor. It can also be excellent but many seem to miss that.
Don't agree he was fucking dogshit at all. He was constantly on the ball trying to make things happen. Take him out of the team and we'll miss him.

He can do no wrong for a quite a few on here. He nearly cost us quite a few times. A few of the attacks they had were a direct result of his poor control/passing (as has happened countless times this season).
Similarly he can do no right for many.
I voted for Hunt.

Ah Gaz, you tried desperately to tell us that he was a good player at League One level all last season. Now you’re at it again in League Two.
He’s a 1 in 5 man. He’ll have some poor games. He’ll have some ok games. And he’ll have 1 good game in 5 games. He’s a middle League Two player. Who with other better players around him can win a promotion. He warrants playing coz he’s better than we’ve got in the middle which doesn’t say a lot. I’m happier to see him further up the pitch where he can’t cause problems for our defence with his indecision on the ball or passing it away to the opposition. And if he’s going to be the man to be picking up the 2nd balls and keeping attacks going, I’d rather see that than his continual passing the ball backwards. Fingers crossed playing higher up gives him a new lease of life.
Happy to be proven wrong but I honestly don't recall singing his praises last season. Think you mean Ousmane Fane.

I'd have dropped him off at Chesterfield on the way home. He's a fraud of a footballer.
I've forgiven him for playing a pivotal role in our relagation and at this level he's a good player in my opinion.

I'd love to know how he can be justified as quality? At least twice he got tangled with the referee, potentially once wasn't his fault.
He pulled out of challenges on at least three occasions right in front of our following.
Played floating balls far too heavy that even Usain Bolt wouldn't catch and gave the ball away at least ten times.
Lyden did a great job of sitting so Gardner could express himself more.
Sure he worked pretty hard and put himself about but quality was definitely lacking from everyone including DG last night
Fair points on DG. That said there was plenty of things in there I thought he did really well that you and many other fail to mention/ notice. He won loads of second balls and I also thought his distribution was much improved.
However I agree with the other lad sitting he has to get himself in the opposition box.
-
Lots of positives.
Gardner quality again, Lyden looked calm on the ball and cleaned up well. Virtually a full game in Miller. Just need to be more clinical.
Points will come.
-
Disappointed to see Bury had a bigger crowd than us last night.
-
Gary Bowyer was at the Vale game.
-
Baxter was ineffective as he was playing as a striker. If you are playing 2 up top it needs to be someone who can play on the shoulder.
Play Baxter in a free role off a striker and we should start to see the best of him.
-
I'm by no means a Gardner fan but to drop him wouldn't be the correct call. With Lyden in there though he has to be braver. Get into the box. Too often he was sat deep and we didn't have anyone on the box yesterday.
-
Edmundson MOM for me. Marshalled Pope well.
-
Watched it on Ifollow. Lucky to get away with a point after riding our luck. How Baxter doesn't start is beyond me. Has to play as a no.10 off a striker.
Lang should have had a go through the middle too. Agree that COG and Miller shouldn't play together, nowhere near mobile enough.

I disagree, Hunt defensively imo is very steady, but going forward is a bit more suspect. As cover to Dummigan who would get forward I think Hunt would be perfect. Hamer is still very inexperienced and should be used as back up still.
Fair enough. So we'd compensate for his inability/ lack of height in the air with the safety of the 2 other centre halves alongside him?
It's irrelevant anyway as Frankie won't play 3-5-2.

Dummigan back fit would completely alter my tactics if I were FB.
5-3-2
Iversen
Dummi Hunt Clarke Edmundson Taylor
Missilou Gardner Baxter
O Grady/Surridge/Miller/Lang
Nepo scored 2 in 2 before international duty and now cant get back in because FB is playing 2 players out of position. If he sticks 442 he needs to put Nepo back in for Branger and switch Lang to RW.
Hamer over Hunt as the 3rd centre half surely?
-
Lang needs to play as a centre forward or not at all. He had a direct hand twice in Colchester's first goal on Saturday.
-
Surridge was absolutely bobbins. Looked knackered.

Do wish he'd be more commanding and come off his line to ease some pressure on our defence.
