  1. Although i remember watching Dawson against Stockports reserves (now most of their 1st 11) last season and was quite impressed. Hope he gets a decent runout too
  2. Wondering how many are going tonight to watch?? Hope Stephens runs the show! This is completely pointless but my predicted 11 would be: Ollerenshaw McKerr Ojapah A.Trialist Black Lee Stephens Rowney Steer Alessandra Brooke
  3. Latics' record with on-loan strikers is shocking....Ormerod after leaving us went on to become a permanent fixture for Blackpool in the Championship and scored regularly. Personally I think it shows the lack of service Oldham's strikers receive..hence why Lee Hughes used to try and do it all himself! The Byfield record of 4wins 4 draws can't be knocked. Byfield was the best of the loan strikers last season. Don't forget he is Reuben's best mate.......he maybe the catalyst for Hazell to play consistently well....DP is killing 2 birds with 1 stone !! Still need another centre half....if DP doesn't think the AFC Liverpool kid is for the immediate.
  4. rhodes shouldhave done better....good player sneekes though
  5. Non-league players especially the young ones have the determination to succeed and be the best they can be - something not evident in some of the professionals in the football league.
  6. I would love to know if the TTA left just exactly who would take over the club and move it forward..............oh right...no-one!!
  7. Will we ever get back to that?????? Hope so!
  8. They'll have 2 years to prepare for the downturn in trade.....
  9. MacLean, Mackail-Smith, Fitz Hall, Michael Kightly.....the list goes on. Why not look lower....our record of going after players from a higher division has really worked so far hasn't it??!!
  10. This thread typifies Oldham fans...... I live in Failsworth, grew up supporting Man United. At the age of 14 (10 years ago) I decided to start watching Oldham Athletic, where I soon discovered the joys of it being an achievement when the team I supported won a game rather than wondering whether United won 5 or 6-0. I'll admit my friends don't support Oldham but they do go to the odd game and do support Oldham. Yes, not a lot of people in Failsworth support Oldham, but I changed and so can others. I'm not going to pretend I know all the history from the so called glory days but it really does seem like the vast majority of Oldham fans live in the past. How does the past affect the future? Are you all happy to sit in a miserable stadium with no atmosphere - due to poorly designed stands and the fact the majority of fans especially the main stand just sit there watching in silence, only raising their voice to berate or moan - watching players who plainly find it difficult to be motivated playing in the BP environment. Compare how many players have said the facilities influenced their decision to join against the number who have rejected us because of the facilities?? If it was financially viable for the TTA to remain at BP do you not think they would have done? They have given 6 years of investment/subsidence to a club who think they have a given right to be in a higher division because they have been there in the past and to a town that is an absolute shambles. If they leave for which no-one could blame them, where the hell would we be? The town centre is depressing and full of gimps, the council is by and large a joke. The only positive is the 6th form college. If I was looking to invest in a football team/town Oldham would be way down the list, I'm sorry to say that given I went to school and college here, but there is nothing pro-active about the town. This football stadium would change that. For gods sake it would be an extra 5 minutes in a car down a dual carriageway, not much longer on the 24 or 182 bus. It's either this stadium and a promising future, or a continuation of a football team made up of players wanting one last pay cheque, youngsters who get berrated at the slightest thing, playing in a depressing environment and the club plodding along in this division year after year. THE PAST IS THE PAST, THIS CLUB NEEDS TO MOVE FORWARD. CHERISH YOUR MEMORIES IF YOU WANT - THEY WON'T GET THE CLUB ANYWHERE.
  11. If that is the case I find it disgusting he is kept away from the first team. If DP prides himself on the fitness of his teams and the intensity of training, wouldn't that be the best place for him to get fit? If Lee's fitness is as bad as they make out then I'm sure he could help himself....hill running etc but do not think he should be made available to loan....but we're not managers are we?!
  12. Kieran Lee is the most technically gifted player in the squad, he and Eardley will/would be awesome down the right hand side. There is no way Penney would release him....keeping posession in this league is a major asset, Lee has that asset in abundance!
  13. What are people's thoughts on the kind of striker we need? An older experienced striker or a younger pacier direct striker? Personally, somebody like Jonathan Forte from Scunthorpe would be an Interesting possibility - scored a few at Doncaster - maybe when Penney was manager there - and scored a fair few on loan at Notts County last season. If you think that Notts County had John Thompson playing centre mid, the service can't have been that great to him yet he still scored regularly?? Still got a year left on his contract though so would probably be too expensive come to think of it.
  14. There was a part in Thursdays game where the trialist striker was running at the defence and o'grady was shouting 'Harry..square it!' . His first touch was dire...doubt its the guy from Turkey
  15. That wasn't Pericard, guy tonight was a lot smaller and looked a lot younger. Didn't look to have much of a first touch.
  16. pericard didn't play, no way we could afford him anyway. Have to say I thought Wolfy had more pace than he showed tonight...lack of match practice hopefully. Does anybody know why Demar Phillips never signed...I always rated him???
  17. Was the small central midfielder not Chris Rowney and not a trialist? He looked busy to me
  18. I thought Kieran Lee showed up well, him and Eardley will do damage this season together. Good to see Abbott & Alessandra together, should ensure we keep the ball in the oppositions half more. Jacobsen looks incisive, always wanting the ball. What did people think of the trialists, inc Haining? I thought the number 4 for Hyde was better than both, anybody agree?
  19. Any idea why penney started Lomax in the 1st half over Eardley? Admittedly Eardley came off injured but they wouldn't have known before the game?
