  1. Barry, what are the chances of being able to protect our assetts like Kieran Lee? There were positive signs when Dale Stephens signed a longer contract so are we able to do it again or will players be leaving in January? Momentum on the pitch is going in the right direction. Another season with Dickov, Stephens, Furman, Lee, Taylor et al could bring some continuity and maintain the connection with the supporters. We'll lose some hefty wages in the summer when out of favour players leave. If we can keep the key players and surround them with hungry youth teamers then things might not be so grim. As a fanbase, if we had something to unite us like paying the wages of a current proven favourite like Lee then people might be more committed to the scheme. If the gaffer and the player made similar noises then i'm certain supporters would be galvanised into action. We need to act and fight for our best young players - I don't want him to leave.
  2. Please sign this lad up on a longer contract - even if it just means we'll get a fee for him if sold. It's a real shame that he can walk away for free having spent almost a year and a half fighting for his place in the team. I hope he shows the same spirit as when Penney tried to usher him out and insists on sticking around. This team has real potential and it's all about to go tits up - what a crying shame. Don't let Lee get eaten by the vultures - he fought for his right to play for Latics so let's fight to keep him. Can we not use the player share scheme money to pay for his wages. I'm sure fans would be willing to contribute extra if it meant offering Lee a well deserved extention to his current deal.
  3. Do we receive money if he appears in the Prem?
  4. The man raves about Huddersfield but they drew nil nil with a poor Tranmere side so Short maybe needs to address the problems with his team.
  5. Maybe he is a makeweight in the eaves deal plus cash? Might be a good long term prospect to work with.
  6. Shez, DP and PD have all mentioned the lack of leaders and talkers on the pitch. But with our budget it's tough to sign leaders. We'll just bring in more kids and non leaguers
  7. I won the lottery and bought Tom Eaves for 2 million. He's currently tidying my bedroom and he makes a mean scrambled egg on toast in the mornings. Anyone else bought an Oldham player?
  8. So do we think Evo has a tude? He gave Penney beef and now he's sulking coz Dickov won't let him ride a donkey.
  9. Everton got back from their tour on Monday. They play Preston on Saturday so it'll be interesting to see if Baxter is involved. Considering they normally play one up front they have a lot of striker options with Saha, Yakubu, Beckford, Gueye, Anichebe, Vaughan and even Lukas Jutkiewicz who would be a better signing but probably out of our league after his stint in the SPL.
  10. I thought we might have seen him turn out in one of the friendlies. Abbott, Eaves & Brooke all yet to hit the net in pre-season. I wonder how long Dickov will leave it before he puts his boots on? He is potentially our best striker and it might aid his understanding of some players by actually playing alongside them in a match. With Colbeck seemingly on his way out, Smalley/Taylor out of form and injured and Millar still wet behind the ears I think a priority (alongside centre back strengthing) is a winger who can supply crosses for strikers! I'd quite like to see us give a chance to Karl Moore - young left winger who has been released by Man City. Played on loan at Millwall. Any news on 'Peter Jones'? Was he involved v Falkirk?
  11. I agree with everything the Burnley fans said.....but I bloody loved it. If Dickov can get em that fired up for a friendly then God help League One. Every team will know they're in a game. Leeds won't come here in a cup game and dance through the match without a care like last season. Was interesting to see Jarrett at CB he read the game well and could adapt to the role with the right coaching. Allessandra played RM but popped up in a few central positions. Maybe he'll be better deployed as a creative midfielder ala Joe Cole. A nice bit of repurposing from our management team.
  12. Royle Army who is the striker we are preparing to pay a fee for who will bring back the good times? Cheers
  13. I think this is a great appointment. Fans of other clubs might see him as a strange choice but he is the right man at the right time for Oldham. We have a underperforming squad who need to be encourage to attack - Dickov should sort this We have a lack of fire power but some promising young strikers - Dickov can play when necessary plus pass on knowledge in training We have no money and need to utilise the loan market using local Prem teams - Dickov will potentially tap into a better class of loan signing from Man City, Blackburn, Derby, Blackpool, Leeds etc I'm really hopefully that the likes of Chris Taylor, Dean Furman, Kieran Lee become key players for us next season under the new manager. Everyone is on such a downer after the last year and a half but football form is fickle. The squad involved from the beginning of 2008 just missed out on the playoffs. The only difference between then & now was Lee Hughes and belief, motivation & togetherness.
  14. Despite being a player opposition fans loved to hate Dickov is actually a really nice fella. He is very down to earth and easy to get on with and is really well liked amongst the people behind the scenes at City. Hopefully, he'll have made enough friends throughout football to call in favours when it comes to loan signings. If the rumours about Frankie Bunn are true then hopefully the both of them will be on the phone to Jimmy Cassell nagging for first dibs when the next Ched Evans or Vladimir Weiss is up for loan.
  15. Let's hope we sign him up for next season and he scores on Bonfire night.
  16. Was Smalley's goal a result of his positional switch? Did DP spot a weakness in the other full back and fancy Dean against him in the air? I'm only asking coz i dunno i wasn't at the match.
  17. I wonder if a heavy fine is too weak a punishment? Surely, the FA have to send out a message. Say Leeds needed to win to gain promotion and Beckford was suspended could they decide to play him anyway and simply pay the fine? You would also think that the referee should be given a list of suspended players on match day so he can double check when the team sheets are handed in. I know Hartlepool didn't intend for this to happen but Gary Liddle is now going to miss the Stockport (h) game and it's a match they have a good chance of winning without him. He played in the match against Brighton (h) and this will have been a much closer contest. Maybe they wouldn't have won this game without him. We'll never know. But how will we (or Exeter, or Orient etc) feel if we go down & Hartlepool stay up by 1 point?
  18. Bury were kicked out of the FA Cup for something very similar. Does anyone know if a team has done this before in the League and what the punishment was? Great win today - amazing to see that we've lost the same amount of games as Bristol Rovers & only one more than MK Dons. Maybe there is something positive for Penney to build on here next season. MK Dons received 9 bookings today - dirty, dirty Ince.
  19. Well done lads! Keep proving me & all the other non-believing arseholes wrong!
  20. Maybe we'll go 0-1 down and suddenly realise that we can attack and then maybe we'll have a rousing last 20 minutes where maybe we'll grab an equiliser and Dave Penney will state that if we can reproduce that last 20 minutes in our remaining games then we'll stay up definitely maybe.
  21. I know Hartlepool were below us but Orient have a tough run in and them getting beat might not be a bad thing if we can somehow scramble above them. Hopefully Orient & Southend to join Wycombe & Stockport?
  22. It seems a long time since Smalley's lovely finish v Leyton Orient heh?
