  1. Am i the only one who thought Tounkare got two bookings? One in the first half for playing on after the whistle had gone for an offside & then the second (which is the only one i can find any mention of) for the foul shortly before being taken off.
  2. Are you always as happy as this or is it your birthday today? We could also, with little stretching of the imagination, have pocket an extra 4, 5 or maybe even 9 points and be on the tails of the frontrunners by the end of the month. All it takes, as has been said, is one or two of the strikers to stick away a few of the chances they get. If this had been happening so far we'd be comfortably in the top 4 or 5. Admittedly it hasn't been happening, but we have been creating the chances, which is the important thing. If we weren't creating the chances i'd be worried, but we are, so we'll be alright. I'm not promising promotion or an FA Cup win but we'll be fine if we continue creating chances and putting the odd one away. If we did have a reliable goalscorer i'd fancy us for automatic promotion, but we haven't so thats a moot point.
  3. How has possibly the most generic football chant: 'There's only one (insert name here)' become seen as some sort of overzealous hero worship? I'd understand this sort of worrying about what song to sing if the song in question suggested we handed over our womenfolk to him to keep him entertained over half time, or maybe suggested all our first-borns were impaled on the corner flags in his honour, but it doesn't. Its simply stating that there's only one Paul Dickov and, as far as i'm aware, there is. And if there's more than one i really couldn't give a toss. I wish my life was so brilliant that the only thing I could find to complain about was someone not quite deserving a certain song!
  4. Blood hell yeah, i’ll put my reading glasses on next time!
  5. I'm 99.99% sure that whilst Prem clubs can still loan out players to football league clubs between September & January they can't bring anybody in. Remember they finalised their squads for the first half of the season just last week.
  6. Jimmy Hill is a Poof? That was quite popular with the sweaty socks back in the day
  7. Well chuffed for him, lets hope he can step up the the next level and perform in league one
  8. I agree he'd certainly have to acclimatise and wouldn't be ripping it up immediately, i just think the attributes he possesses lend themselves to a right wingers role, though as you rightly say he'd be 2nd choice for both at the moment. As an aside, the more i think about it the more i wonder how, with his keenness to cut inside, Taylor would perform as an attacking midfielder in behind the front two. But now isn't the time, that's something for pre-season or maybe reserve games...
  9. Maybe you're right, i'm no football manager so i've gotta agree that maybe there's something that they've all seen in him that makes him a left winger. But for the last 18 months (ish) he's just not produced the goods enough on the left, maybe a change back to the right is what he needs.
  10. Whilst i'd say if Taylor plays he should play on the right I don't think he'd get into the team on the right at the moment because Jones is playing so well. I wouldn't want to take Jones out of the team and wouldn't want to upset the midfield partnership we've got by moving him inside. When Alessandra is fit he should go back into the side on the left and Taylor should wait to be given a chance on the right.
  11. For me we should be going all out to win this competition, its been proved in the past to be a decent springboard for promotion. I'd keep the same team with the exception of DJ Bembo in for Feeney and Jarret back in for M'Voto, who looked like a confused sea lion on Saturday when asked to do anything except head the ball, useless. So relatively few changes to the starting line up, but i'd keep the bench full of youngsters & give them a run out or (if we're struggling) a chance for them to show how they can change a game.
  12. If Taylor's going to play it has to be on the right. He only ever moved to the left to fill a gap but it now seems to be forgotton that he's naturally a wide right player. He cuts inside because whilst playing on the left has improved his left foot he still much prefers to use his right. If he was moved back out to the right he would spend much more time on the wing because he'd be more confident in beating the man and whipping in a right footed cross. He'd also still have the option to worry defences by cutting in as he has a better left foot than your average league one right winger. As for his perceived attitude problems the only way to sort them out is to make absolutely sure he only plays on merit and treat him no differently to every other member of the squad. If he still doesn't work hard enough & fit into this new team come January then maybe the time really will have come to cash in on him before we're stuck with a highly paid player that we don't need or even want.
  13. All they need is a decent anchor (Manish is terrible, always stuttering and looking at the wrong camera) then they could show more of the action: more missed chances, replays of some goals, maybe more soundbites from the managers. Or alternatively they could have three shows on simultaneously all accessible via the red button. You could press red and choose whether to watch the Championship, League One or League Two show. If you wanted to watch the other goals you could get them on iPlayer later on. That way fans would be happier with their clubs' share of the airtime & each show could have a studio guest that is relevant to that league, such as a manager or former/experienced player. There we are, problem solved. The BBC would be a million times better if I worked there.
  14. I'd happily see Konnie Huq in Steve Claridge's place.
  15. very true. People forget that football is a very simple game and complicate it with talk of systems and such. Even with a team playing as poorly as last year if we'd on occasion had a pop from the edge of the box we'd have picked up a good few more results over the course of the season.
  16. Steve Claridge is without doubt the most useless pundit on television. Almost every other thing he says is utter tosh and he struggles to string comprehensible sentences together. I'd rather Leroy Rosenior was on every week, and he's not much cop either. I emailed this to Lizzie at the BBC but she didn't read it out for some reason
  17. Freshly updated for those who are interested...
  18. Sounds to me Parkinson's certainly trying to talk it up. The article in the link says JJ threw the ball, yet Parkinson's saying he booted it. Its a good job we didn't win or he'd be accusing him of deliberately aiming for the old dear on the front row with a hot bovril. Its been said before on here tonight and i'll say it again: the fact that opposition managers and players are getting frustrated by us can only be a good thing as it means we're not letting them have it their way for a single minute. Lets hope it continues.
  19. It's amazing what a difference a couple of games can make. Last season i'd be watching Soccer Saturday just expecting the next goal to be scored to be against Latics. Today, having seen the football played by the lads against Tranmere & Notts County I sat watching Jeff & the boys just waiting for a Latics winner, in fact I was almost surprised we didn't get one. If the team carries on in this vein it won't be long before the crowds start flocking back to BP and we can actually have a home support worth mentioning.
  20. Well as far as cats go he's pretty talented (or not, depending on your viewpoint )
  21. I've started a blog, there's some latics in there as well some general football. It'd be cool if people could tell me what they think! http://pieandabovril.blogspot.com/ Cheers,
  22. I'm in if there's places left, i've sent a request. Gamertag Bradman99
