We’ve signed 2 they just haven’t worked out.

Freeman - played at a much higher level. Looked decent at times. Then just disappeared. Fitness? Personal reasons?

Sachdev - looks dodgy on occasion, looked good on occasion. Seemingly out of favour now. Not sure why.

It’s a position that we can’t get wrong this summer.

We've signed 2 right backs this season in Freeman and Sanchev it's just that neither have nailed down the position.

Abit like the midfield situation we've signed enough players in that time to have solved the problem in the last 2 years but its still a weak area.

So it's not like the problem area's haven't been acknowledged the solutions haven't been right.

I’m sorry but signing a player who hardly played for two years on a short term deal, and a young right back who had never played a professional game, is not them trying to solve the problem, they

    panicked.

Our right back situation is incompetent, at best. It’s bloody criminal and pathetic.

I think we need to understand exactly what went wrong with the recruitment before we come to any conclusions on how to fix it. Its easy to sit their and say that it was all down to the fact that data analysis is wrong and we didn't do that int thee olden days without seeing exactly how and why players were signed. Some of the signings looked good on paper and haven't come good.

Their is also a danger of flip flopping from one strategy to the next it's important we find a consistent approach that works for us.

We still haven't dome anything as brain dead as signing Queensy Menig on £13.5k a week but we certainly need to get more value for money than we have been doing.

I think not signing a right back for the last 2 years to 18 months is just as bad as the Menig situation. It’s beyond incompetent at this point.

    Aye.

We were told 18 months ago there was a proper recruitment plan/strategy. . . It’s culminated in 56 strikers, 36 midfielders, and one left back

    It’s a shambles really, it’s beyond poor.

If DR is involved, let him focus on the operations side of the club, get someone in to do the recruitment.

Didn’t DU want praise for putting in a proper recruitment team, appears they are shite.

  4. Whatever we have been doing for recruitment for the last 18 months, we need to be doing the complete opposite.

If that means DR or whoever has to step away from recruitment, then do exactly that.

Mellon should create the plan of how he wants his team to look and we should recruit to that. Just work to a pissing plan. Oh and buy a right back.

Dallas has bagged 20 goals at NL level in the last 2 seasons he's a gun striker at this level. We didn't see any evidence of that for the first month or so but I see why  . The fact him and Norwood haven't scored in a while tells us that their is a problem in the build up abd our patterns of play. We had quite abit of the ball yesterday with McGahey Conlon and Gardner who did a solid enough job of making sure we had good possession yesterday but they are allvplaying 15-20 yards behind the striker. None of them can break the lines and get into the penalty area to support Norwood so he became isolated and started to brood.

We have two proven strikers who are struggling to score goals and some fans will still claim it’s the strikers fault. We have fuck all service.

I’ve resigned to the fact we are shit. Unsworth didn’t like creative players and it’s absolutely fucked us.

It's been a very bad run of form for a sustained period of time. All since his mate was ostracised. It could just be a huge coincidence, but there was no sign of this dip in form before then when Kitching had been excellent pretty much every week...

Rightly or wrongly, the Reid situation has impacted him, I have no doubt.

If my close mate was axed and left out the squad, I’d be pretty disappointed and annoyed with the manager. Regardless if it was for the correct reasons. They travelled together and spent / spend a lot of time together, it defo has impacted Kitch.

Considering he was the only one able to create chances for us for the first 6 months, it’s no surprise we are shite now.

  7. I like Mellon, but I am absolutely puzzled with the bench yesterday.

We played a wide 2, but our bench consisted of Sheron, Lundy and Ward. Yet we kept Walker out the squad ? We also kept Hammond out the squad who could do a better job than the other 3 out wide. Very very strange decisions. Killed us from making and impact subs.

Give the armband to Raglan and play Hobson over Hogan, he’s dump.

    Sign a pissing right back.

It could go either way with him. I think he's shown glimpses but nothing consistent. He's young though, so what we see now will probably not be reflective of his whole career.

I suppose, but when I look at young midfield players I look at the technical ability. He’s not great on the ball and doesn’t look comfortable running with the ball at all. - I’d much prefer a Harry Vaughan type.

He brings much needed energy to this team, but that’s about it. I don’t think he’s good enough.

I think a midfield 3 with Conlon playing further forward, Hammond doing a lot of the running and a new addition to pick the ball up from defence could work really well next season.

Edit - granted I'm basing that purely on what he did for Port Vale, he hasn't shown much at all for us.

Id be very worried if Hammond is in the starting 3 midfielders next season.

    Take your other points though.

Stones getting injured was typical Latics misfortune. I think Dallas could come good given time, Garner seems a better partnership with Fondop and if what we are told is true, Conlon's mentality has been fucked by his family telling him he made the wrong choice of club.

Conlon is an absolute basket case in my view. He does seem to clap sarcastically at the end of the game. He’s so one footed it’s untrue, thinks he’s the bollocks but he gets the run around from national league players and as a dead ball specialist, he’s been hooked off corners and free kicks within about 10 games.

Should be a hair model or something.

I don’t even know what the solution is. Just sick of this football club being shit.

Had a go at you earlier in the season. I’m bored of this shit as much as you at this point, crap.

The fact I continue to watch Sutton marching down that right wing, McGahey trying to play centre mid. Fucking mind boggling.

Maybe - he’s clearly not thrilled to be here.

It’s the wages though, who would pay it or get close? Maybe a Salford?

He lives in Manchester so can’t see him venturing too far unless he REALLY hates it.

Of course he hates it, was sold a dream and we are absolutely wank.

I am an Oldham fan through and through and I fucking hate it.

Dallas looked a real player yesterday. He looked quick and aggressive, polar opposite of what we have seen from him previously.

I think it’s time to go 433 with Norwood up top on his own and Dallas on the inside left. Take your pick who plays on the right, he’s crap, but maybe Hope to offer more structure to the right hand side which is a weak point.

Saying this, I will be surprised if Gardner played on Monday, he looked injured going off and the 5 mins before.

I think I've spotted why we are underperforming.

After going down to 10 men the players unleashed the shackles and played the they wanted, not Mellon and Brabin's.

Gardner and Dallas were prime examples.

This indicated to me the players don't like being pressured to play a style of football they dislike.

Mellon and Brabin must give the players freedom to express themselves or IMO things will get worse

The home crowd is never as toxic as the away following - if we play like we have in our last two away games then it could get nasty

Last time we played Alti away in the league we had Jordan Clarke down with a head injury just infront of our fans.

One of our own shouted to him to stay down and die. A memory that has stayed with me and absolutely baffled my mind for a fair few months, still does.

    We have some weird supporters.

  16. People are entitled to question Mellon, though I don’t agree.

But let’s not start saying it’s got worse than Unsworth and start to retrospectively improve his spell here. Unsworth was an absolute incompetent manager and an unlikable character. In 9 games he won 1 game of football after assembling his squad. He’s dog shit and Mellon should not be compared to him.

Crack on with the Mellon debate, but please don’t give that fraud any credit for anything.
