Do we really need Rooney? He looks a decent player, but with JCH in the form he seems to be in, and Baxter, MacDonald and Millar to call on, would the (I suspect hefty) wage we'd save by not signing Rooney not be better spent elsewhere? If come October, say, we're looking profligate in front of goal, there's always the loan market to fall back on.

I remember him regularly partnering Alex Parkes at CB when he was in the youths. If he does make the switch permanent at least we'll have two ball playing CBs. Tbh having seen Wes' first half shambles I still think he'll be back in CM sooner rather than later, especially if one of LJs CB targets arrives in the next couple of days…..
Describing Wes' first-half performance as 'a shambles' is ludicrous.

On a two-year deal? No thanks; he's 35 in three months.

Raspberry so I believe. Not too sure on release date.
Source?

Whoops, double post, so here's Smith's equaliser again instead.

I'd be disappointed with 500k, simply because Trotman went for that fee after only playing a handful of games, JB is twice the player Trotman was and attacking flair players should attract a bigger fee than defenders, look at when the world transfer records have been broken, Zidane, Figo, Ronaldo and in Britain Torres, its always the attacking players. And when you consider Scott Spencer and Danny Philliskirk and also Tom Eaves went for £200k-£300k despite the first two never playing for us and Eaves only made a few appearances, then JB should be commanding a lot higher fee than those 3, seen as he's played a full season, and bagged a few goals. Also Crewe managed to get £4m for Powell when he only had one season under his belt in League 2. I'd say £1,000,000 and I think Lee Johnson can expect very little of that as Blitz will pocket the money. So because of that I hope we don't sell him.
Don't think we can use Trotman as a comparison though. That's a bit like using the perennial 'well if Andy Carroll's worth £35million...'

He's a donkey. He's slow as piss, and can't defend for toffee. I'd hope that he's not playing regularly next season...
Matt Chambers posted yesterday that, last season, we won 38% of games with Tarky in the side, and only 24% without him.
But no, you're right, obviously...

I was hoping for Mossley again. Not for the football, just for the view opposite from the main stand.

Josh Parker; from striker to wherever Dickov had an absentee.
...The term 'striker' is used very loosely.

They'll go and win the league now, just watch.

I think that if he moves to a different country the compensation fee isn't applicable. Hence the Porter situation.
Not if he's still under contract, as he would be if we'd exercised the option. He could only have gone for free if he'd waited until next summer, had that been the case, by which point he'd be over 24 anyway, so could go anywhere.

If this happens I'll... well, I'll be surprised.

The Trust.
Because that makes sense. Cheers for the downboat, by the way.

People put their faith in a lot less.
Such as?

Not sure this is totally legit. Played 27 last season, 13 off the bench for Elgin? Think Mr. Harkins might have seen LJ's tweet and seen an opportunity to put his name into the public domain a bit.
-
Looked very solid at centre-half. Wasn't first-choice at either Coventry or Ipswich, so his sights might be a bit lower than we're expecting. Local, knows the club and was a regular when he played here. It's feasible, y'know.

Released by United today, I'd have him back in a heartbeat.

Rumoured to be moving north of the wall.

Reckon he'd do WELL there.
...sorry.
-
Cheers Baz; you're the best.
-
He's persistent, I'll give him that.

Think that probably comes under the 'no' option. Is there an option for a "Pissing yourself at the complete over reaction from Latics fans again"...

The fact is, though, that all of those players mentioned are considerably better than Baxter. Anything close to £1m is a pipe-dream.£1m fee + £500k after x appearances + 25% sell on - about time we got a proper - and I mean 'proper' fee for a genuine talent
When i read stories of Will Hughes, 18, at Derby playing about 30 games and as talented as he is, 'Newcastle are ready to pay £10m for his services' - and then I read some of our lot happy with £400-800k, it makes me weep.
£400-800k in relaity gets us nowhere. With £1m (and in talent and potential wise vs the fees that players like Powell, Maynard etc have gone for after 1 season wonders, he is worth it) we can use £800k to help with running costs etc and £100k or so to add 2 or 3 quality players rather than simply see it be swallowed up altogether.
-
£300K as an absolute maximum.
Adam Rooney!

I disagree. LJ's said today that we can't afford an experienced (and mobile) centre-half. Surely that should be a priority ahead of a fifth striker?
