I'm not begrudging you that, I'm just saying that Tarkowski's improved markedly on last season and that your opinion might have changed if you'd seen him more often.

Not at all : I want him to do well for us, I love nothing more than a home grown player playing for us. I had countless arguements in the Lookers and RRE defending Eardley and Taylor when they were getting pelters.

 

But I don't see it with Tarkowski. He reminds me of Paul Jones we got from Leigh RMI a few years back. Hope I'm proved wrong in the long term, but can't see it...

If you'd seen him more regularly this season there's no way you'd be saying that.

I think losing Stephens was a bigger blow as there was less creative quality in that team, by a country mile really.

Well if Tarkowski goes onto become the player that some seem to think I'll be very happy. Personally I don't really see it, because I find the consistent failings to be rather important.

 

I like bits of his game, but fundamental defensive flaws cannot be swept under the carpet of "not the finished article" because they will cost us in the long run. Or the short run in fact, because watching that game I felt that Pope and Hughes got far too much joy against us in the air.

 

But what do I know? I'm anti-Oldhamer and bitter!

we cant afford him mate. Everyone involved wants Lascelles at Latics but Forest wouldn't budge on the wages they wanted us to pay. We physically couldn't afford what they wanted us to pay.

 

Shame really, unless the new defender means Forest are more likely to pay more of his wages to send him out to get experience I can't see anything changing.

Seems odd that. Forest aren't exactly short of money at the minute; I'd have thought it'd have been in their interest to get their lad some proper game time.

In context Wabarra is on just shy of £40,000 a week (Unbelievable really but true) desperate for Jose to stay this season and wouldnt moan if he then moved on as think he would get a proper club like a Derby and be valued more by someone like Clough. He could really enjoy his season this year Bolton... Mmmmm please no.

 

Utter respect for the lad staying in Jan and think he has more about him than most footballers and being central to LJs plans will matter to him.

This is the same Wes that was (arguably) our most important player the season before last, prior to his recurring shoulder problem. Remember everyone's delight when we got him to sign a two-year contract? Give the lad a break.

We now have Shmeltz, Dayton, Harris and Montano who on their day are all capable of getting the fans on the edge of seats however I would like a little experience amongst the next few signings.

 

Matt Taylor as rumoured would be a great signing alongside M'voto (if he stays) with Belezika and Tarkowski that would be the CB's sorted. I think we still need a CM who can dictate the game, at least one or (if Baxter leaves) two experienced strikers, a RB who can play anywhere across the back four and of course at least one competent keeper.

 

If we manage to get the right mix we could finally have a season to remember, however, goals are the name of the game and if we have to spend a large percentage of our remaining budget on a proven striker then it will have been money well spent.

Taylor signed for Bradford on a two-year contract. They've been making a couple of astute signings this summer.

Without him, last season we'd have gone down.

The guy on Saturday was far too enthusiastic to work for Oldham Athletic.

Keeper did okay, a couple of sharp saves and not at fault for the goals.

 

Brown tried one ridiculous challenge that would have been a red in a proper game. I thought we looked suspect down his side first half and don't think he gave much going forwards.

 

I thought Grounds looked a bit one paced and their number seven exploited us down the left second half.

 

Mellor looked at fault for their first and his back pass early on was a shocker. We need an alternative at centre back.

 

Tarky read the game well and was very vocal. Got on the end of a couple of set piece headers where he'd have been better heading back across goal than trying to score, but he was a threat.

 

Baxter in what appeared to be a free role showed moments of brilliance including the pass that won the penalty.

 

Smith kept the midfield ticking over. I thought we were going to get over-run early on but he was smart in the tackle and on the ball.

 

Dayton was the invisible man to me.

 

Montaño looked good in both halfs going forwards. They exploited the space behind him for both goals conceded. Took his goals superbly. Limped off at the final whistle.

 

McDonald disappointed me.

 

Rooney won the penalty but faded as the game progressed.

 

Byrne made us look more solid when he came on.

 

Schmelz showed some nice touches.

 

Clarke-Harris is a one footed beast who's efforts won us that game and should start based on what little I've seen.

 

 

Fitness wise I thought we finished the game stronger than our opponents. We created and took chances. The Mellor / Brown defensive duo is my big concern. But happy with what I've seen and keen to get down to Stevenage when I wasn't going to bother.

Sums it up almost perfectly for me.

If he plays like he did against Carlisle last game of the season before last, he might. It won't happen though.

Every bit of Donny news is being posted here it seems? I'm sure there is a whole message board like this dedicated to them if you all want to talk the and outs of their pre season but to have probably 3 or 4 threads about them on the first pages of this board just seems anbit much for someone most wanted gone imo
