  1. I think potentially it is there, I do wonder though if being so young they are going to need that extra season especially playing together. In my eyes I look at some teams that have achieved back to back promotions with the same squad pretty much, and for some reason there is a tiny part of me that thinks even that is possible
  2. Playing devils advocate a bit here as I'd personally rather we kept hold of him, but how would people feel about it if his transfer fee allowed a bigger playing budget and concerted effort at promotion next season?
  3. I read the article as more of a "you will know better how we play now after 10 or 15 games" than a judge me statement, think it may have been slightly out of context, I personally still feel positive it's a young gaffer with a young squad and new ideas it will take time. As for Baxter I hope he stays but if he goes to the championship fair play to him
  4. Great signing and it does appear lj is changing the approach to contracts, interesting to read Richard Askam's tweet that another could be about to sign also
  5. What I was getting at is that for every Gregan out there are are a good 4 or 5 branstons, I'm not saying they aren't there just in short supply and usually wanting big money whereas Byrne is our player he has experience and seems to help the young lads yes he lacks pace but he reads the game quite well
  6. It looks to me that lj us building a team longer term than we are used to these days, I dont think crofty really fits with what he wants long term, also I'm not too worried about Centre back TP and LJ seem to really rate tarky and Glenn and I don't think there is much better than Byrne out there on a free in terms of experience
  7. I think this may be a bit premature, for all we know sc has already told him to do one several times and they are trying a different approach or maybe he is looking at buying 30% and sc Retaining controlling interest, could be horribly wrong on both counts but until there is a definitive answer I'm not going to stress just look forward with interest To the team taking shape
  8. For me I'd keep bouzanis, brown, tarky, grounds, croft, montano, millar, mellor, Baxter and the one I'm 50 50 on is mvoto he can be a rock at the back don't get me wrong but every time he gets the ball at his feet I flinch it terrifies me at times. Next season I'd like to see mellor dictating the tempo from centre mid maybe with a pacey option through the middle alongside him, an experienced cb that can play simple passes with scaring me, 2 strikers 1 pacey maybe a quicker/better target man (depending how you rate smith)
  9. Does it matter if he's first choice or seventy first? All we can do is trust he can back up what he says, he comes across well and to be fair I'd have much rather had him than some of the old heads mentioned
  10. I for one don't mind the appointment, any man who can watch that amount of games and there will have been some shockers and still feel he can do a good job obviously has some balls. If he can bring in a good no2 and grow some spines amongst some of our players it could be a really good platform for us to build on a few gutsy players added if we survive the drop and it could be a really good squad. Playing with the ressies is a great idea ad should provide continuity between them and the first team which can only help. In summary it's not a bad appointment even if it isn't who we initially thought it should or shouldn't be
  11. I did mention schools in my original post but i was more looking at older players as I said 16 - 21 age group I think there could be lots of players out there that have missed there chance etc I know in my year at school there were 3 or 4 training with united that got told at 15 or 16 your not really what we want and they lost interest now play sevens or Sunday league I'd mention them to the club if we were 10 years younger
  12. I was more thinking in the 16 - 21 age group to be honest, but when it came to school football etc I think it would have to be an open an honest thing perhaps meeting headmasters etc first explaining the aim of it and crb checks would be mandatory I would imagine not a painfully process mind I've been through it before to be an emergency foster carer
  13. Just thought it could be beneficial for the club all it will cost us is time and expenses to watch of any the majority of it would be taking notes maybe phone video etc and typing then the reports could be compiled by area or whatever chosen subject and attached to an email, you never know it could lead to a manure style owtb golden generation
  14. Our financial state is pretty well known so I was trying to think of ways we could help as fans, we already have playershare etc and reading the post about closest league teams and some of bp1960's posts set me thinking about Crewe alex ( my closest league club ) how do they produce so many valuable players? Is it coaching or scouting? I think we have a very good youth manager in TP so I was thinking maybe we could set up an owtb scouting network? A few of us on here aren't local so it could be a fairly wide network, I for one wouldn't object to watching school/Sunday league/ none league etc games when I can't get to Latics all reports on good players could be compiled into a monthly submission to the relevant person at BP surely after a player is mentioned so many times in succession they would take notice? It would cost the club nothing for initial watching of players and would probably open up the area the club has access to, anyone think it might be a good idea? Or are my day dreams at work getting worse?
  15. I would say a Baxter cross onto smiths forehead as he powers past distin would be a big fear for them
  16. To be honest I wouldn't want tp to take it and fail due to inexperience I would like someone to come in and keep tp involved in the first team including transfers etc to get him experience in that side of things and then if the opportunity arises again then let him go at it
  17. Excellent post about being a Latics fan I've often described watching them as 89 minutes of pain and 1 minute of joy to my mates, if we could keep this team together over the summer and stay up this season next year could be a really good one
  18. I'd like to see him put himself about a bit more be a bit more aggressive
  19. Good first half I thought and is it me or I crofts losing weight?
  20. I just would of expected more movement on a new manager etc if nothing was going on behind the scenes because league 1 survival is so important I would have expected someone in by now everton is just a day out in the grand scheme of things this season an ideal test run out for a new man see the players in match action etc
  21. Is it me or has it all gone a bit too quiet for nothing to be going on? Not even much coming from Matt chambers or mike keegan on twitter
  22. If it is that price I'll get one I think, have to say away to forest this year was an amazing 15 minutes but the half hour after that I was missing smoking in grounds! Was nice to see a full bp against Liverpool shame I can't go to everton
