100% agree with OP. Everybody liked Baxter but there is a bigger picture here. We've proven that as much as we would've liked him to stay and as much as we've enjoyed watching him play.. we don't need Jose. As proven by the end of last season and also this season, with the game as Port Vale as a solid reference. Rusnak looks quality, and if this Lanzoni is as good as those who have seen him suggest, then.. I continue to have absolute faith that we'll do well this season, and exceptionally well in the next five years.

As big a fan as I am of Mellor, it seems silly to play him instead of Mills seeing as we have a Championship defender on loan. Baxter hasn't been on form or created enough for at least two games and with the options we have, it might do him good to take a seat and come on mid-second half to cause trouble. Plenty of forward options, but I think Rooney works hard and just needs his breakthrough, Charlie Mac will run himself stupid and hopefully the experience of him and Rooney will create those link ups and through balls we've been looking for. Saying that, I have no qualms if Baxter, or any other forward, starts. This team has goals in it (somewhere).

I thought it was fairly unanimous that Grounds had his best game this season today playing 'out of position'? (I'm sure he's played CB before..) Mellor at LB would be able to come far further forward on the left than he is able to in the centre. I think LB is way more akin to any central midfield than CB is. But what do I know

Maybe when Mellor is back fit, LJ might leave Grounds in the centre and see how Dave does at LB..

Sounded like Wes had a decent game, and overall we gave it a bloody good crack. Two goals against general run of play and a stupid penalty, defence sounded solid enough and I liked the sound of what Mills was doing. Really happy we got a goal as hopefully that'll break the deadlock and give us the confidence to put a bucket load past Vale and Tranmere.
