  1. According to m/boro wage list Ripley is on £2900 a week.
  2. At 7.55pm. Jason Dunford says" watch this space as Athletic are slow with Media announcements regarding players." And at 7.50pm. He also says "exciting few days for us regarding the signing of new players". He as agent friends working on signings. Sounds good to me. I think Mclaughlin to Wigan and with the money Connor Ripley and a well known midfielder in.
  3. Its been kept quiet but Ripley is a definate. Baxter will follow. Top 6 is a good bet.
  4. He played yesterday at Stalybridge. Does anyone know if its the same player who was at Maidstone. 17 years old and contract expired on June 30th.
  5. In the 1st Wolves game ,Bebbington scored our 2 and Wolves fullback Thomson scored the equaliser. The very best player to grace our ground has to be Bobby Moore. No equal anywhere.
  6. Dennis Burnett (West Ham,with Moore,Hurst and Peters) for that 85yard goal in FA cup 3rd round 1965.
  7. That game v Tranmere. We won 4-1 at home following day.Bell didn't get a kick.
  8. A sad day as yet another passing of the 60s team which won promotion from Div 4. For all you younger fans the best player he would be compared with is our captain Peter Clark. Same build, power, heading ability, tackling, scored similar goals and always gave 100%. The 63/64 team photo didn't include the main man,Bobby Johnstone.
  9. Wilf Mannion from Middlesborough in late 40s. Current England international. £15,000 was the fee but we couldn't raise it. Equivelant now to 15mil. Quote from newspaper of the day."The greatest scheming inside forward of the day"
  10. Yes it was a very cold and frosty January day. I travelled with my brother, cousin and Uncle in his new Morris 1000 car and I remember my feet were frozen all the match. We stopped for for the best Fish and Chips I had ever tasted on the way home.(no M6 then)
  11. Peter Phoenix started at Latics before Bobby Johnstone and Bert Lister in ateam that struggled in Div 4. But he always gave 100% and had a good shot in both feet. I was at that Stoke game which we lost 5-1. I remember him scoring a penalty at Rochdale which hit the stantion in the goal and came out. The ref thought it hit the post and didn'give the goal. Was prominent in the FA cup run of 1962 when we lost 1-2 at home to Liverpool.(42.000 crowd).I seem to remember he scored 2 goals in round 3 v Bristol Rovers, away (then in Div 2) I think he spent some time at Rochdale later. Was originally from Manchester.
