When you stand next to him, you realise he's a big unit. He should be bullying CBs.

First post in the thread updated with Kyeremeh leaving.
Probably not much of a shock. Hardly available throughout the entire season with injury, so no chance for us to assess him. Maybe FB, AR and/or AL thought it was a risk too far.

I take it she doesn't come on here, then.

And our FA cup replay against Cambridge (1972/73?) was the first to be played by teams in the top four divisions on a Sunday. Three day week and power cuts innit.

This week, I thought we'd have a look at some of our opponents in League Two, whom we haven't faced for some time.
When I were a lad, we used to face Grimbsy in what is now the Championship with reasonable regularity, and our record against them is in deficit;
P 69 W 27 D 12 L 30
However since the turn of the century we have faced them in only 1 league campaign, 2003-04. One of those games however was rather memorable for a number of reasons;
8th February 2004, Boundary Park
Correct Prediction: Latics 6 Grimbsy Town 0 [HT 5-0]
First Latics Scorer: Scott Vernon
Attendance: 13,007
'Celebration Sunday' was the beginning of a new dawn. Administration and Chris Moore behind us, The Three Amigo's allowed everyone in for Free and there was a real feeling of optimism. Let's hope Mr. Lemsagam can bring that feeling back this coming season.
If you fancy yourself as a decent Predictor of Latics' fortunes and fancy trying to win some prize money, Prediction League is for you. All you've got to do for now is;
Pay the £10 entrance fee via PayPal to stevie_j@owtb.co.uk (Please note the underscore) with your OWTB username in the comments box and your name will appear in the following Participants thread;
Then, please keep revisiting this thread over the coming weeks, where I will explain more about;
- How it works/What's new,
- Who the beneficiaries are,
- Tactics & Mind games.
Good work again Andy. Let's see if we can get at least 50 players again this coming season, or even more.

You couldn’t even broadcast games at our ground at the moment due to the horrific camera angle.
Only one word for that. Begins with B and ends in S. And there's 6 letters in-between.

Yeovil is a Tuesday night as well. Fine for me, but a bugger for those in Owdham.

Not salted ones. They're for the slugs.

Agree with all that, I was referring to him playing at Nos. 4 and 6 in that line up !
Oops. Well spotted sir. No4 was McNeill, Bowie was No6

Bowie was about 6'2" and an excellent passer of the ball. He always looked lazy but was very deceptive when running and covered the ground quicker than you thought. I don't recall him running very far at a time, though. A very good midfielder.

O/T: I'm far too young to have seen him play, but you wouldn't mess with Jim Fryatt, would you? Looks a proper double-hard bastard.
If I was a defender and saw Fryatt running at me, I'd try to kick him so I could get sent off and not have to face him again. He was one tough cookie.
In answer to the OP, the result was 1-1, Fryatt was the scorer and the attendance was 11,988.
The team that day was:
1 Dowd
2 Wood
3 Whittle
4 Bowie
5 Cranston
6 Bowie
7 Heath
8 Shaw
9 Fryatt
10 Bryceland
11 Bebbington
12 Sweeney - sub on for Bebbington
Latics won the Ford Sporting League and ended the season in 3rd place. The Ford/Lookers/Broadway/North Stand opened the following season after Latics won £70,000 for winning the Sporting League every month. Points were awarded for goals scored and deducted for bookings and sendings off.

Well Tarkowski would not have been able to go anyway. He is recovering from an hernia operation at the moment.
Oh aye, I'd forgotten about that.

I'm not convinced he's good enough for this level of football.
Me too. I know Cahill isn't 100% ideal, but I think he's a better option. Actually, and call me biased, but I honestly think that Tarkowski is a better option than Maguire. I think he should have been in the squad.

It's all about opinions, just thought Maguire gave the ball away cheaply on a few occasions.
That was how I saw it. I think he's always got a mistake in him in dangerous areas. The one consolation is that Phil Jones never got any game time; that's a silver lining.
And, if we don't play Young or Rose, Delph is a good option.

To come from a secure position (well, as secure as football can be) with a Championship club to come to League 2 says a lot about the man. If AR shows the same passion and professionalism as an assistant manager that he did as a player, we've struck gold. Just the man to bring the dressing room together, too. He's quite a character from what I recall; remember him doing juggling tricks pre-match at Wembley 1990. Mind you, they say goalkeepers are a bit crazy.
-
How does Young play before Rose? He hasn't got a left foot, so every defender in the world knows what he's going to do. Maguire awful, should never be in front of Cahill on current form. Henderson just about average with every other pass going either astray or backwards. Alli should have been subbed at half time. Still, as has been said, it's 3 points. Panama ought not to be a problem, but we've got to massively improve on that performance against Belgium.

Have a look at my avatar and you've got it.

Well deserved by both Roy and Alan. Couple of really nice blokes who do so much for the club voluntarily.
Still miss Big Gordy. One of life's real gentlemen and a right character.

The appointment is neither a good or bad choice, so "not sure" is the only one I can go for with the addition of "but he deserves to be given a chance before being written off". Until we see changes in the playing staff, unloading the dross and bringing in decent replacements, and seeing how we start playing, we've no real idea whether it's a good or bad appointment. Patience, boys and girls and keep an open mind.
