  1. Groves was the supreme entertainer. He would often leave a full back on his arse, wait for him to get up and then beat him again.

I remember us thrashing Huddersfield 6-0 and Grovesy beat half their team before smashing in an unstoppable shot from the corner of the penalty box. He had no right to score from there, but it was simply the sort of thing he did.

IIRC we got promoted that day.

Agreed. He’s still shit though. We must start the season with a proper GK this time around. Then hopefully finish the season with a proper one too.

I'll agree he's not the best keeper in the division, but I don't go with this "shit" opinion. Everyone loved him in the early stages of the season and, let's be honest, he pulled off some cracking saves to keep us in games.

Compared to some of the crap we've had in the past, such as Brill, Miskelly, Blayney and, for God's sake, Budtz, Johny ain't that bad.

However, I'll be happy with a new keeper. I said in another thread that Luke McCormick has been released by Plymouth. Would he do the job?

  3. Excellent news. Contrary to what some folk belief, he's been keeping fit and has turned out a number of times for Everton U23s. Get a good pre-season into him and we've got a cracking player. And, to be honest, I wouldn't be that upset to see Byrne go. We all know that Byrne  can throw a hissy fit when things don't go his way and, while he is a very talented footballer, I'm not convinced he and Baxter can play together. Time will tell and we could end up with a midfield that tears League 2 apart, with or without Byrne. Baxter could be the perfect partner for McEleney if he hits the form he's supposed to have.

The majority of business sales include indemnities whereby the seller has to pay for specific known future liabilities (in this case potential tax bill incurred before sale) and hidden liabilities that were not disclosed in due diligence. It is highly unlikely that Abdallah has been hoodwinked if he has a half decent solicitor.

Or a half decent business brain, which I reckon he has.

He knew what he was doing, not to what extent but he set out to rough him up, he holds his arm in as he himself falls which is an unusual reaction and then puts his full weight on the player as he rolls him. You only have to watch his antics later in the game to see how he's wired up. Great player - probably the best centrehalf in the world but he behaves like a complete bellend at times.

I get that but simple things like we don’t have petrol for the mowers. There is so many negative rumours, I think the trust could go some way to at least make me/us feel a bit better? The trust must have some idea. I’m not being a knob, just want some reassurance. I am worried for my club.

I think that is the operative word. Neither the Trust, you, me, the tea lady or the kit man have a divine right to ask AL what his worth is or how much of his hard earned he's going to plough into the club. Let's wait and see what happens when players start moving in/out and see what we've got. That should be a decent barometer of where we are. So far, apart from rumours, there has been absolutely diddly squat to base very much on regarding his financial standing. And, exactly why must the Trust have some idea?

Be honest now. Have you seen any evidence so far that this club is better off financially than it was last year? When I say this I mean in a position to turn down offers for players who we would like to keep.

What offers are these that we've turned down, then? I wasn't aware that anyone had made any bids yet. Sorry, mate, this doesn't make sense.

  8. If Bryan were to come back, where would you play him?  We've got Clarke,  Gerrard, Edmundson and Stott for the CB slot, plus Hamer who can play there as well.

Maybe that would allow Bryan to play left side of midfield. All pure conjecture, obviously, as we may never see him in a Latics shirt again.

Jones was really good when they played him at full back.

When was that? Even at full back, he's caught out of position too often, frequently the wrong side of the opponent, and doesn't have the pace to recover. Never a Premiership player imho, let alone an international.
