Season Tickets frozen ? doesnt look like it!

Recommended Posts

Just recieved a flyer today from the club informing that the club are happy to announce that season ticket prices are being frozen for the 4th year running. On looking at the price list however I read that a disabled season ticket is now going to cost £159.00 if purchased before the 28th May or £206 after that date. Now the price for this type of ticket has been £120 for the last couple of seasons so I really do hope this is a mistake on the clubs part because if it isnt then it can only be described as out and out discrimination. A email to Alan Hardy is being written asap.

Get a grip!

Whilst I of course sympathise with anybody with a disability I would hardly call this discrimination. That is actually a pretty good price for an individual who probably takes up more space and requires specialist facilities, not to mention a have a free 'helper' (I think?), who is no doubt conveniently a Latics fan. Why shouldn't disabled people pay the same as everybody else?? Even if they can't work they get more money than a bloke on the dole who still has to pay full whack. If anything this discriminates against those who are not disabled!

That said, the price freeze news should have said "Season ticket prices frozen, except for in the case of the disabled who will now have to pay as much as half price."

Get a grip ??? Special facilities eh, I guess that must be all the able bodied fans who stand up infront of us and block the view. Or is it being shifted left right and centre for season after season from the RRE when a big team came to town ? Latics made the decision to charge £120 and they must be happy with that so dont try and justify the price increase and compare us to people on the dole. Most people on the rock n roll can get themselves fixed up with employment if they get their arse into gear but I have not yet seen a way to get my bloody legs functioning!

Don't criticise the unemployed. That's the biggest faux pas of all.

I suppose there are two issues here.

(1) Should the disabled pay the same amount as the normal punter.

(2) Is the club right to advertise no increases, and then increase it for a subsection of the support.

(1) I'll be honest and say I have no idea of the income of a non-working (and therefore worst case scenario financially) disabled person. So I really can't cast judgement.

(2) No.

Sorry, maybe the 'get a grip' comment was a bit inflammatory. Just trying to provide an objective view to counter your allegation of 'out and out discrimination'.

I do think it is daft that you have to sit at the back and cope with that....considering this there is a strong case for you having free admission.

I can see your point of view and there will always be one section of supporters who think they get the wrong end of the stick with one thing or another. I think what has got my back up is the fact that it looks like it is this one particular ticket that has gone up from £120 to potentialy £206 if you cannot put your hands on the asking price by the 28th May. With the increase being quite high it would have been an idea if the club could have discussed any increase with the disabled supporters ? I hope Alan will be able to give a good explanation on why the club have decided to do this.

Well I've seen it all now! Sexist and racial abuse is not enough for some, now it's the unemployed and the disabled who are getting it.

I moved back to the Oldham area 5 years ago, it's like being in a bleedin time warp

Yep, point taken. I'm sure you will here back from Alan - never emailed him myself but I gather from here that he is pretty good at replying.

Very good at replying. He will, when disagreeing, tell you why too (be it basically financial), which is all we ask really.

NB. KUNGFOO: That was brilliant,

Am I missing the point here somewhere? You may well be right to feel aggrieved that the prices for disabled supporters have gone up if the club said no increases, but I don't understand why a disbled person should pay less than an able bodies punter in the first place?

Any ideas on why this might be?

No use of legs... you cant stand when everyone else stands up so you miss the action...

Its just nice to give someone a break who has had a :censored: card dealt in life...

This wasn't meant as an inflammatory statement, I just genuinely don't get it.

Good point 0000, and I'd agree with that, but perhaps for life's necessities, rather than it's luxuries (is going to watch Latics a luxury? ). Where is the line drawn?

Should the line be drawn ? I don't think so... Its about caring about people less fortuant than ourself...

Speaking from a personal point of view, the disabled do not have the same opportunity of deciding where they want to view the game from like most able bodied supporters. We are currently offered 3 areas to watch the game from and not one of those areas is spot on.

You've got a whole stand for yourselves. I have never understood why the disabled got a discount. Should the terminally thick who can't get a job?

Maybe its a nice gesture??

My brother is entitled to a disabled season ticket because he is severley handicapped, but we dont want to sit at the back in the disabled seats so we get him a normal season ticket. He cant walk by himself, cant talk properly and has the mental age of about a 3 year old when he is 22. As you can probably tell he doesnt have the greatest of lives, but he enjoys going the football, so its nice to see the club offering something like this to those less fortunate. When he was smaller the guys on the turnstiles at the Chaddy End used to let him in for free. Not because they had to but just an act of kindness, which was always much appreciated by me and my dad.

Other clubs too have been brilliant, Tranmere still let him in free now, as did Wigan who let me and my dad in with him for free last time we went there. Bolton used to give his school free tickets for 5 kids and 5 helpers. Again nice gestures for people less fortunate.

As for helpers getting in for free, if you havent looked after a severly disabled person let me tell you, you havent got a f**cking clue how difficult it can be, so again maybe the club recognise this and have decided to give these people a well earned break.

Sorry for the rant, we dont even take up the offer, but i find it shocking that people cant even understand why the club might offer this to disabled people. I dont think they should be entitled to it, and I am sure they dont either, like I say a nice gesture from OAFC to those less fortunate and for the people who take time out of their lives to look after them!!

The only area that is disabled only is the lookers section, all the others are shared with everyone else. If all the disabled fans opted for the lookers there would not be enough room to fit them all in.

And that's the point - you don't understand. You probably never will either.
