Match Day Parking

Recommended Posts

Apologies if this has already been mentioned but this is a warning for people who usually park on B & Q on match days.

Don't!!!!

B & Q have now had cameras installed and the maximum stay is (I think) 90 mins with a £60 fine for overstay (It certainly isn't long enough to attend the game!!)

There have been several nurses and people visiting the hospital being fined during the last week who have parked on there thinking it would be ok.

Although privately issued parking tickets aren't always enforceable.

I like "If you weren’t driving, you’re not liable and you’ve no need to tell who was

If you weren’t the driver simply state that, as the owner, you're not liable for any costs, and you're not prepared to state who was driving and are under no obligation to do so. Hopefully, that'll get the message across and they won’t contact you again. It’s best to do this in writing so you have a record of what was said.

However, if you were driving don’t be tempted to lie: it could land you in serious trouble in the unlikely event the case ever went to court and witness statements or CCTV proved the opposite"

Not only that mate, anyone parking around there gets their cars vandalised. Mrs. SCOUSELATIC parked her car near Westwood park and had the pleasure of her side window being smashed, the front off her radio being nicked (no use without the actual radio) her boot being trashed and a brick being thrown at the windscreen, all whilst she was at work in the hospital. This mindless vandalism around that surrounds the perimeter round the back of the hospital is getting more frequent so beware!

That article is a long winded way of saying, "tell them to blow it out of their arses." If they don't clamp or remove you there is sod all they can do. They would only get a couple of quid if they took you to court, not the amount set, and the collection people they use are not bailiffs with a court order, all they can do is ask you to pay.

Just park on the hospital, they have one clamp and never use it. 1st fine for no ticket is £5 and I've never seen a warden on there in all my time watching latics or visiting the hospital.

My aunt vists there 4 times a day with work and has never paid to park.

Succinct.

Or pay £2.50 to park on one of the club carparks.

£3 these days, but still worth it IMO.

I would usually make a sarcy comment at this stage about having the opportunity to listen to the whole of 606 on Radio5 while queuing to get out.

But given recent attendances I suspect this attempt at humour would miss the mark.

It's alot quicker to get out of the Broadway car park than it is to get out of B&Q. Unless some :censored: parks on Hilbre Avenue as happened the other week.

Spare a thought for the poor sods who need to park to visit people in the hospital, (or have come al the way from the USA to eat in the hospital's Café Royal  ) .

Now I know the official line is always to park on the club carpark and at £3 a go its not that expensive but there are plenty of spaces to park near enough to the ground for a comfortable stroll for free. If say you parked out by the Rifle Range you can often find yourself getting out quicker than if you parked in the club car park. Then there is always the Clayton Green which is always a good spot (provided it isn't full but I've gotten there not long before kick off and been able to park).

My Dad could actually park in the hospital for "free" (he can't anymore as his permit has expired) but he never used to because the gate by the mortuary is nearly always shut and its not exactly a short walk from the other bits of the hospital- especially up hill.

On a Saturday Diego- I'm sorry but no hospital car park is ever full in my experience on a Saturday as there is very little that goes on work wise on a Saturday.

I do stand to be corrected but its not like we are playing with Premiership crowds anymore.

During the week, when taking my Mum to the hospital, even with a Blue Badge, I've found it impossible to park nearer than the bottom of Furtherwood Road near Clayton Playing Fields.

Accepting that on a Saturday there are no clinics for people to attend, but there are still as many, if not more, visitors for patients as there are during the week and they are unable to park in the areas reserved for staff. Also the area being developed for the cancer treatment centre has taken away many parking spaces.

I don't think we should encourage fans to park in the hospital.

I'm not encouraging people to park in the hospital but I would say the busiest time for car parking at any hospital is in the afternoon during the weel- as there are still visitors (trust me the visitors are almost just as frequent on a weekday as on a weekend) and there are still clinics and investigations and other out patient treatment.

I do think anyone with a blue badge should be able to park at a hospital (and I would write to the hospital to complain- you probably aren't the first person with the problem) but I would suggest (in case you didn't do it) to drop your Mum off next time, if possible, and then find somewhere to park and pick her up on the return that way you can park for free as opposed to paying some big corporation for the privelege as well. Plus at a lot of hospitals off site parking is actually closer than on site parking for some areas- North Manchester springs to mind.

Here here!! a quick call to the authorities and they'll all be clamped, not a risk I would be prepared to take, any residential street without double yellows would do.

To be honest why would the privately owned car park clamp someone for staying longer in the car park (thus making them more money) than someone who has a more legitimate reason to park there?

Because it is a hospital and not an overflow for BP.......To end it those who are looking for somewhere to park, stick your hand in your pocket and dig deep for £3, hardly breaking the effin bank is it!!!

I'm not saying that the car park for the Royal Oldham Hospital shouldn't be just that. (It is NOT the only hospital car park in the country that gets used for the purpose of something not connected to the hospital). If I was working at Royal Oldham and not having the right (or the cash) to a staff permit but still wanting to pay for the parking- because say I felt safer at night- then clamping would be the least of your worries if you were parking there to go to BP.

What I am saying is that provided you pay for the car parking (which isn't as cheap as it should be) the company that owns the car park will not be all that bothered how you use the space. Especially as Oldham games (especially with connected trips to pub/other pre-match socialising) tend to last longer than the standard 2 hours for visiting thus making the car park owning company more money. Maybe if parking at the hospital is such a problem on matchdays- I doubt it- then something should be done about it but until that day nothing will be done because it is not in the interest to do so for the company concerned.

Parking with a Blue Badge is free of charge IF you can find a space. When I've dropped off my Mum at the Clinic, morning or afternoon, after double parking, I've then driven around the Hospital grounds without success and ended up as far as the bottom of Furtherwood Road, before finding a space and walking back to the Clinic. I've then repeated the walking/ driving/double parking to collect her when her appointment is finished.

Many of the Blue Badge spaces disappeared with the cancer unit development, which will produce more patients, visitors and staff. At present many of the staff park on OAFC land off Sheepfoot Lane, which is a nice little earner for the Club. Of course that facility and its income will disappear eventualy, when the residential development is completed. Hospital parking for the increased numbers of patients, visitors and staff will become impossible.

Latics will still get income from parking on non-football days if some of the Failsworth stadium land is used for parking by Metro service passengers.
