Everton Football Club, Goodison Park, Liverpool, L4 4EL.

8480914865_076292b1db_z.jpg

Away fans are located in one corner of the two-tiered, Bullens Road Stand, which is at the side of the pitch, where just over 3,000 away fans can be accommodated. If a small following is expected, then only the lower tier is allocated, which holds 1,700. For larger followings the upper tier is also made available. Try to avoid getting get tickets for the rear sections of both the upper and lower tiers, as the view can be quite poor. In the back rows of the lower tier it is dark and claustrophobic and you should be prepared to stand up at frequent intervals as well as having to contend with supporting pillars blocking your view. The front of the lower tier is a lot better having newer seats and no supporting pillars to contend with.

The stadium oozes character, although it shows its age and the facilities within the stand are basic. A unique feature is St Luke’s church, which sits just beyond one corner of the ground (selling teas & snacks at reasonable prices on match-days). If you have time before the game, look out behind the Park Stand for the statue of the legendary Dixie Dean. After all these years, the Everton team still come out to the theme tune of the old police TV series ‘Z-cars’.

On a poignant note, if you notice some flowers lying around the perimeter of the pitch, this is because the ashes of a number of supporters (over 800) have been interred around it.

Disabled facilities:

Away supporters' spaces are in the lower tier of the Bullens Road Stand, at pitchside with little cover. Helpers sit either adjacent or behind.

There are two accessible toilets provided in Bullens Road via the Ramp and below the giant screen. Access to the Bullens Road positions both home and visiting Supporters is through the Ramp gate adjacent to the Park Stand and Bullens Road with external directional signage.

How to get there:

By car:

From the North & the South

From the M6, exit at junction 26 onto the M58 and continue until the end. At the gyratory go left to join the M57 Junction 7. Exit the M57 at Junction 4 to turn right into East Lancashire Road (A580). Follow the road across Queen's Drive into Walton Lane. Goodison Road is less than a mile along on the right.

Alternative Route from the North

From the M6, exit at Junction 26 onto the M58 and continue to the end. At the gyratory system go a quarter way around, turning left onto the A59 Ormskirk Road. Continue along as the road becomes Rice Lane, and over the roundabout into County Road. Three quarters of a mile along County Road, turn left into Spellow Lane, and then left into Goodison Road. Goodison Park is on the right.

Alternative route from the South

From the M6 exit at Junction 21a onto the M62 to Liverpool. Follow to the end of the motorway and turn right onto the A5058 Queen's Drive. After 4.5 miles, at the roundabout junction with the A59, turn left into County Road. Three quarters of a mile along County Road, turn left into Spellow Lane, and then left into Goodison Road. Goodison Park is on the right.

From the East

From the M62, exit Junction 6 onto the M57, go to the end of the motorway and then left onto the A59 Ormskirk Road. Then follow the same route for north.

From the West:

From the M53, continue to Wallasey and follow Liverpool via the Kingsway Mersey Tunnel. Turn left at the end into Scotland Road, taking the right fork to the A58 Kirkdale Road. Follow the road round for two miles and Goodison will appear in front of you.

Car Parking:

The roads around the stadium get very congested towards kick-off and getting away after the game can take a while. The area is residential with lots of terraced houses in narrow streets. A residents-only parking scheme has been introduced in some streets around the stadium, so check any signs first. Parking restrictions are heavily enforced and cover every possible kick-off time.

Advice issued by Liverpool City Council:

The football match residents parking zones around Everton and Liverpool Football Clubs are for resident permit holders only. You may be approached on match days by people in yellow jackets illegally directing you to park on the public highway for a fee of £5. If you ask for a receipt, they will show you an empty receipt book and claim to have run out.

It is a particular problem for streets directly off Robson Street and Breckfield Road North. Merseyside Police are aware of this problem.

If you are approached by people claiming to be council staff and offering parking facilities in a residential street, this is likely to be bogus. The council does not operate any pay to park facilities within the football match parking zone and all council staff are issued with an ID badge and should provide it on demand.

If you park within a football match residents parking zone (FMPZ), you may be issued with a penalty charge notice.

Car Parking is available at Bullens Road, Gwladys Street School and in Stanley Park Car Park (£8), approximately half-a-mile from Goodison Park – see Map above for car park locations.

By train:

The closest rail station is Kirkdale on the Northern Line, which is approximately 1 mile from Goodison Park.

Walking Directions From Kirkdale Station:

On exiting from Kirkdale Station turn right and then cross the railway bridge, you will see a pub opposite called the 'Melrose Abbey', (which has been recommended). Walk up Westminster Road, alongside the pub and continue along it, passing the Elm Tree pub. Follow the road around the right hand bend and then turn left into Bradwell Street. At the end of Bradwell Street you will come to the busy County Road (A59). Cross over this road at the traffic lights and then go down the road to the left of the Aldi superstore. At the end of this road you will reach the A580 Walton Lane. You should be able to see Goodison Park over on your left and Stanley Park in front of you.

Liverpool Lime Street is over two miles from Goodison Park. Although Kirkdale station is the closest to the stadium (just under a mile away), it may be more advisable to go from Liverpool Lime Street to Liverpool Central or Moorfields, and then via Merseyrail Northern Line to Sandhills Station, which has the benefit of a bus service to Goodison – see ‘Soccerbus’ below.

By Bus:

Services from Queen Square Bus Station in Liverpool city centre - 19/19A, 20, 21, 130*, 210*, 250*

Services from Paradise Street Interchange - 19/19A, 20, 21, 130*

Services from Thomas Street Stand EA - 350/351, 311, 210*, 250*

Other services which don't operate via the City Centre but serve Goodison Park include- 68/168 (Bootle - Aigburth Vale) and 62/162 (Crosby/Bootle - Penny Lane).

Soccerbus

Soccerbus is a frequent shuttle bus service running directly between Sandhills station and Goodison Park.

If you’re travelling in by train, ask for a ticket to ‘Goodison Park’ and for an add-on of just £1 you’ll get a return trip on the Soccerbus. You can also pay as you board the bus – it’s just £1.50 for a single or return ticket and it’s FREE to those with valid Trio, Solo or Saveaway tickets or a Concessionary Travel Pass.

The Soccerbus service runs for two hours before each Everton match up to 15 minutes before kick-off and for 50 minutes after the final whistle.

By taxi:

There are several taxi ranks in the city centre, with the biggest/busiest being those at Lime Street Station. There are also ranks at James Street Station, by the Adelphi Hotel, Whitechapel, Sir Thomas Street and Chinatown.

Where to drink:

Alcohol, including beer from the Club's sponsors Chang, is available inside the stadium.

The closest pub to the ground is the Spellow, and within a couple of minutes’ walk from the stadium there are at least twelve pubs, which generally welcome home and away supporters.

About a 15 minute walk away from the away end, is the Thomas Frost pub on Walton Road. This Wetherspoon outlet has a mixture of home and away supporters. Also on Walton Road is Bradley’s Wine Bar, which is not a wine bar but a proper family run local with a good selection of beers including some real ales.

Where to eat:

Inside the stadium the refreshment kiosks sell a wide variety of burgers, hot dogs and pies, including a 'Scouse Pie'.

Near the stadium there is no shortage of places to eat and drink. County Road has plenty of places including Sayers, Subway, KFC, McDonald’s and numerous chip shops and cafés.

Opposite the stadium is the Lucky's Blue Dragon Chippy, at 15 Goodison Road, which went up in smoke along with Everton’s hopes of F.A. Cup progress in 2008.

The Twelfth Man near Anfield will be open to Oldham fans...

Was in here before and after the Liverpool Cup game last year decent wee spot, sitting at the bar I was the only one wearing an Oldham shirt surrounded by Liverpool fans not a bad word to be said.
