One goal from my early years of watching Latics which I've never seen is Tommy Wright in a 1-0 win against Preston at home, around early September 97 during our first season back in this cursed league. Was one of the only home games I missed that year, & vividly remember a fresh faced 12 year old self avidly refreshing ceefax all night & long for updates & going ballistic when it flashed up that Wright had scored to keep us near the top - he was the stuff of legend to me as a child, me old man used to wander round the house singing his name as a kid, so was ridiculously happy when he returned. I became absolutely obsessed with Latics sometime around the end of 96/97, which is unfortunate timing - but I was totally convinced we'd bounce straight back. Also recall the attendance being very big compared to what we usually got, too. Memories of times like this make me realise how much I love our club. To have a sense of identity & belonging at such an early age & the unaffected joy these moments brings. Brings a tear to my eye. If you could find time to upload this goal, you would quell 15 1/2 years of curiosity & bring that warm, nostalgic smile back to this weary face!
