  1. Bloody hell. We have just drawn one after winning three on the trot. And some folk are manking like United fans
  2. Can you post the number/contact you used? I have tried to get in touch with them with no luck. For general interest; I could not get the match to load for the day pass I bought. Was using Chrome as a browser. Tried Microsoft Edge, as a desperate measure, and it worked right away.
  3. I prefer to have an owner who says he will do something and then carries it through. Frank said he would give David Unsworth time and he did, he is the sort of bloke I would like to work for. As for the implied blame from some quarters we should all remember that without the continued goodwill of the Rothwell family we would all be watching our football on Clayton Playing fields. Probably under the same umbrella.
  4. Perhaps we need some new fans as well. A paraphrase from the Oxford commentary: "Interesting that two misplaced passes and the Oldham fans are on their backs Yes, Mark white said: keep them quiet for 10 minutes and the crowd turns........" .
  5. Also has the advantage of bringing the players in so knows and has backed them, personally, will also know their agents and possibly family. The board will no doubt spin out the process and, in effect, they have a trialist in place. If he does well nobody will mind him having a shot. If he bombs, nothing lost. I remember Jimmy Frizz coming in, the team was stinking the place out, just drawn away in the cup at South Shields, lost at home. Results were not stellar at first but people liked him, he was a sound football man and it all came good.
  6. So Jimmy Thompson jr left at the end of the 59 season. Listed as a "Wing Half" I am sure someone will remember him. I recall some of his team mates: John Bazley Peter Pheonix Bill Spurdle Peter Stringfellow
  7. Yes. 3 points: I don't think you should drop people for scoring goals. Norwood gets a little hint that suspensions are not good. Shows the rest of the team that you mean it when you say you will stick by players who do the job. Norwood will no doubt get back in and do well in time, starting from the bench on Sat.
  8. His connections go back several generations, anyone remember his dad or Grandad? According to the National Archive here are four Thompsons who have played for Oldham: Player Name Season From/To Clubs Thompson, J (Jimmy) 1949/1950 to 1968/1969 Chadderton, Platt Brothers, Mill Brow, Oldham Athletic, Exeter City, Rochdale, Bradford City, Hyde Utd, Buxton Thompson, J (Jimmy) 1915/1916 to 1933/1934 Bradbury's Works (Oldham), Chadderton, Hollinwood Amateurs, Oldham Athletic, Manchester City, Stalybridge Celtic, Ashton National, Port Vale, Blackpool, Accrington Stanley, Swindon Town, Crewe Alexandra, Oswestry Town, Hurst, Wilson's Brewery Thompson, JP (John) 1998/1999 to 2011/2012 Home Farm Everton, Nottingham Forest, Tranmere Rovers, Oldham Athletic, Notts County, Mansfield Town Thompson, N (Neil) 1980/1981 to 2002/2003 Nottingham Forest, Hull City, Scarborough, Ipswich Town, Barnsley, Oldham Athletic, York City, Boston Utd Thompstone, IP (Ian) 1987/1988 to 1997/1998 Manchester City, Oldham Athletic, Exeter City, Halifax Town, Scunthorpe Utd, Rochdale, Scarborough, Bury, Atherton Laburnum Rovers Thomson, AC (Arthur) 1963/1964 to 1972/1973 Salvesen Boys Club, Chelsea, Heart of Midlothian, Oldham Athletic, Raith Rovers, Dalkeith Thistle
  9. Jimmy Frizz came in as caretaker and the results were too good to let him go. You got to have a dream
  10. Neil Warnock is set to leave Huddersfield. Just sayin.
  11. Look on the bright side, Erik ten Hag may be looking soon.
  12. I don't mind the Punch and Judy show on here, which means little to anyone beyond the door. However, seeing Frank barracked from the stands turned my stomach. If he gets disillusioned with the job we are well and truly stuffed. It will be back to skint dreamers and small time con artists running the show. There was never a proper time to oust Unsworth. Before Christmas it would have been laughable, in the New Year the results picked up. He has now built his team and we have to wait and see what happens next. As David Moyse said, you have to be given time: "Either to fail or succeed" Frank came in on the ticket of continuity and no more short term fixes. Jokers screaming on match day, trying to kid people how much they care are just gifting the other team. Nothing better than getting on player's backs to make them hide and sap confidence, It's what we love to hear from the opposition. .
  13. I remember the 0 - 6 pasting very well (as you would) , Andy Lochhead scored three and Bruce Rioch pulled the strings. Rioch was a fine player and went on to other things not least a career involvement in offshore sailing. .
  14. I like a trier. At the very least it shames the others to get off their arses
  15. I can see Maurice Whittle now knocking in the penalty at the Chaddy End - to beat the red Manchester team 1 - nowt, in the second division. 1974. Still have the ticket stub in a glass frame
  16. You don't. And a proper referee with a comb over. .
  17. Yes, I don't think anyone would confuse Higggins with the Brain of Britain. My mate reckoned that he saw him bragging about a large bet at a tournament - he had misread the odds, thought he had 5 to 1, it was actually 1 to 5. Lost the bet into the bargain.
  18. Jim Fryatt could head a football like it was shot out of a cannon. On day he scored with a ball that was about 4 inches above the ground, it would have been much easier to tap it in : -) A 'keeper went down clutching the football in one match, obviously injured. Jim sidled up to him and looked like he was going to commiserate, as soon as he was within range he started to boot the ball trying to get it from his grasp. Happy days. Fryatt moved to America, I once saw his son's name high on a leader board at a big open golf tournament, but he faded away.
  19. IIRC Reg Blore was one of the players that came with the first flush of spending when Ken Bates took over the club. I think others could have been Bill Asprey, Ian Towers. Albert Quixall and the manager Jimmy Mcilroy himself. At one point we had about 7 expensive new signings in and around the team - with no immediate success. Reg was popular, he always looked like he was bursting out of his skin, every fan likes to see someone working for the team. .
  20. More on FuckoffGate. LaticMarc, in t'other thread, says he heard it all: "The supporter, who sits near me, was the first to swear saying "fuck off, Unsworth, zero shots" in a loud voice. Unsworth clearly heard, turned in the direction of the supporter and said "you fuck off". This led to a few more expletives from said supporter and a few more "zero shots" comments." Just sayin like. For me "Man swears at football match" must be the biggest non story of all time.
