  1. Your Doubles aren't worth betting on bearing in mind you can get Benzema to be top goal scorer at 33/1, huntelaar at 50/1 (might be even more on betfair) and Ballack at 40/1 and I know that if one of these is top goalscorer the odds of their team winning are reduced. Plus having actually looked at the odds from oddschecker (follow the betting link in the all sporst forum) where did you get these odds as huntelaar and Holland is 200/1 in places. Top goalscorer can easily be won by someone whos team don't get to the semis if they get a hatful in the groups and having read Pat Nevin's excellent column on the BBC website a sneak sniff at a Russian could be a good outside bet (the only problem is Zenit's and Russia's star forward is a doubt with a knee injury).
  2. Does it count if you were coming home anyway and just happened to time it so you came back in time for a weekend? As I came back from Cape Town, via Jo'burg and Dubai on a friday a total flight time of around 19 hours with a total of 30 hours either in a plane or at an airport. Or the year before I came back from Surfer's Paradise via Sydney, Bangcock and London Heathrow with a total flight time of around 30 hours plus god knows how long in airports but I can't remember if there happened to be an Oldham game on the next day.
  3. Rumours, only rumours more like definate. Ice-baths are reckoned to work and I'm sure if i look hard enough I could find a decent study that says so to confirm it. If we haven't been using them by now then wtf. It explains all our mystery soft-tissue injuries and I wonder what the club's medical team have been doing apart from working on treatment when at our level prevention is as, if not more, important. Being a physio is not rocket science otherwise the university course would be a lot longer and yet maybe our rockets never took off.
  4. Ooh i was going to just comment on that goal when i first read this but you've reminded me about his performance against City. Firstly I had a great view of that goal since i was in the lookers paddock near the rocky road end. As the ball cam across to Griffin he looked up to see where Vernon was (Vernon was on fire that day) and he was flciking it back towards Vernon (IMHO) and it went brilliantly wrong looped over the goalie and went in. A definate fluke in my book. As for that game against City if you look at SWP's performances against all opposition no-one has ever had him in their pocket as much as young Adam Griffin. SWP was the next big thing for England at the time and City's great big hope but Adam Griffin did not let him have a kick (of the ball at least) he was immense. I think he could still do a job for a lot of teams in league 2 so I hope he gets professional football next season.
  5. Leicester are definately not a massive club. Ok so they were in the Premiership not that long ago but Leeds and Forest (plus Wednesday and City) are much bigger than Leicester. They are below where they should be for a club of there size but there's a reason clubs go down, no one is ever too big/good to go down and they are certainly not as low down relative to their size as the likes of Leeds, Forest and City. Their chairman will demand instant results and if Leicester are not going up from start to finish I'd be surprised if they don't have two mangers this season. They don't have the fan support of Leeds nor do they have the prestige of Forest I can see it being harder for them to sign players of good quality and I think they may well loose some players in the close season. They will be challengers for sure but I think it may take them a few years (much like Forest and Wednesday) to escape this division. Colchester might be a force this season but they are going down after hitting their peak, if they don't do anything this season I can see them struggling the year after. The same with Scunthorpe who did well on the back of two quality players up front whom they knew would get them a goal but when they sold them they struggled and their defense although looking quite solid a few years ago has some obvious weaknesses. Neither Scunthorpe nor Colchester have a fan base as big as ours and although we have lost a side Scunny's ground (and Colchester's old one but I'm guessing not the new one) are still smaller. When we played Scunny 18 months ago in a top of the table clash their ground was full with about 7,500 fans of which 1500+ were supporting Oldham, there's no way we won't beat that if we were at home in a top of the table clash. As for the teams coming up I think Peterbrough and Franchise might cancel each other out in the transfer market as they are both clubs with a little bit of money who are playing at probably their right level in terms if size plus they are very close to each other so will often be competiting for the same sort of player. This is of particular importance to loan signings who I think are vital for clubs at this level. Hereford won't set this league alight but no-one will like going there and they might not struggle as much as people think. Stockport however won't do a lot and unless they get in some good players I can see them going straight back down. Although I don't think it will be a contender history seems to indicate that someone will go into administration next year and this may be good for Latics as well. Being a Yo-Yo team between the Championship and League 1 won't do us any good in the long run as although we might get extra fans in we'd surely have a higher wage bill and I think if we came down we'd still have the bigger wage bill but not necessarily the fans. Last season showed that we'd have struggled in the Championship if we had gone up 12 months ago and if we had gone up this season I don't think our squad (not the first team but the squad) could have coped in the Championship despite some good transfer activity. However with maybe one or two signings in fairly obvious areas I think we will do well next year and if we get promoted I think our squad (especially the younger players) will be developed enough with the prospect of few more signings (in 2009) to survive longer than one year in the Championship. So in summary I certainly don't think we've missed out on promotion for the forseeable future and in many ways not getting promoted in the last few years may have done us better in the long run.
  6. If we do sign him I think he will be a great player for us but I don't think we will as he showed some decent quality at Sheff United (where I'm fairly certain he had a part in the balloon gate goal ) and I'd be surprised if United were to let him come down to our level having shown that he has a bit more potential than that. If he is loaned out at all (Giggsy isn't getting any younger) I'd imagine it would be to a championship/lower level premiership team as opposed to us.
  7. Nice one I get a decent outsider and keep away from the 'group of death.' Plus i get a country I'd be happy to support (as opposed to say the Germans).
  8. Is there a prize or is this mainly for and giggles EDIT: need to learn to read the bit about a mystery prize before posting.

  11. Wah Wah there's a bigger bully so I'm going to complain to the headteacher and then to the police and then to the UN. As I never bully those smaller than me no sir i don't. (Despite a load more players being tapped up by Man U than Rio has IQ points)
  12. Aah yes but to paraphrase the words of Tony Pascal (to I'm sure every mascot when the junior Latics was under his immense tutelage) 'Be careful as the steps are steep, don't slip or you'll hurt yourself'
  13. Not to mention the chant at Brisbane Road (Leyton Orient) 'We can see you washing up'.
  14. Aah yes the results for the be a mascot competition on OWTB mysteriously go to a 8-9 year old whose Dad lives in Darlo.
  15. I can probably count using all my fingers and toes the number of times I've been on the club website (not via here) in the past 6 months (and some of those haven't been news related- more gallery). I come on here a LOT more often than that. It makes no difference to me when they post it as no doubt someone will have received an 'official' text or has been in the club shop or getting a ticket or whatever and seen something interesting and then posted on here. (Sometimes trying to make out that they don't want to reveal the identity of any player but do so in the end). I will admit 5-10 years ago if a player was having a medical then they would be signing (and if you are a big club it is usually still the case- I remember when real madrid tv broadcast Becks' medical) but these days for a club like ours it doesn't mean squat (and I'm not too sure if the medical means enough these days- see Mark Vivien Foe). In many ways I'd like to know if someone was having a medical but not the name as in case things go to pot the club don't look as foolish as they could have done. In essence however it doesn't matter to me what the club do with their website as I come on here to find the gist first.
  16. I've got to admit we do look worth a cheeky flutter, especially as we seem to be active in the transfer market and the odds seem to be slightly based on league position last year at the mo, with oursleves Trannie and Brighton all being offered similar odds. The odds you gave are very scewed by the bookies (probably William Hill) who seem to think they'll take a bit of money on Posh and Franchise (might be related to location) as their odds for these clubs seem very stingy compared to some of the others offered. (Go to the betting bit of the all sports forum on here and follow the link to Oddschecker and you'll see what i mean). I do think that some teams are being given short odds though and I can see Posh and MK featuring but not to extent their odds would suggest. As R. Bucther can attest to the step up between the top end of league 2 to the top end of league 1 is a lot bigger than people give it credit for. As for another good bet (besides ourselves) Bristol Rovers look quite good value at 40/1 (various places) as although they had an average league season their cup run showed that they have some quality and with a recent cup run, they may have money to spend, plus their manager seems to be fairly decent.
  17. 15 points you gave a f**k Cos you are sh***y Leeds And you f***ed it up. (Or any variation on the theme for Leeds games)
  18. There's a pub in Durham where the landlord is a Leeds fan might pop in tomorrow
  19. He might now as Donny have just won 1-0, but we have a much better record against Leeds than against Donny so even if Leeds dominate next season which i don't think they will (the 15 points galvanised them i think) good results against the top teams mean you are going to be there or there abouts.
  20. A braver man than I might graffitti said banner so it read 'League 1 here we come' as i'd fancy a flutter and say Brizzle City did what is now a 'Leeds ' and end up being relegated the year after loosing the play-off final
