  2. That is correct PeterboroughBlue, Heyside want him as their Overweight Amateur next season. I had heard several Wispas that he was going to Breakaway from the pollards. I don't think there will be too many Celebrations there when they realise one of their Heroes has gone to leave for a bigger Club. In fact the Wheels could now fall off the Waggon at Oldham, this will obviously be the Topic on everyone's lips. His & Jason Maher's shirts will be hard to fill next season. Mel Whittle will probably be spitting feathers & doing his Fruit & Nut.
  3. Why is Christopher Biggins stood next to Danny Whittaker?
  4. Alan Groves was my favourite. I used to copy the tricks he did in my first Latics kit (complete with number 11 on the shirt & shorts). The guy was awesome & I have never seen anyone since who compares to him. Who has anyone seen who took the mick out of fullbacks the way he did? (maybe goofynaldo at manure). Who remembers him sitting on the ball waiting for the opposition to come & get the ball off him? He was different class. (he had a dodgy haircut though? like the bloke out of Boney M). My other favourites: Maurice Whittle - Free kick & penalty expert! (He could strike a dead ball as hard as anyone I've ever seen) Shoot!......Shoot!.......Shoot!.........Shoot! (classic chant) BANG!!!! GOAL! Vic Halom 'King of all Geordies!' Steve Taylor (Only because he was the first Latics autograph I got when he came to our school one day with Les Chapman, I remember being awestruck at the ridiculous pointed shoes he was wearing). Rodger Wylde (remember him scoring away at Rotherham then milking the applause from the Latics' fans in the away end (Emlyn Hughes eeeeawwwww was playing & we won 2-1). Simon Stainrod he was class as well (remember him winding up Terry Curran v Sheff Wed & then bricking it in the main stand paddock as the Wedneday fans rioted when Curran got sent off, also remember Jack Charlton crying like a baby on one of those loud hailer things as all hell let loose around Boundary Park) Happy Days! Monday...Tuesday.....Who the fcuk are Wednesday?
  5. Is it me or is anyone called MOORE a complete k-n-o-b in this town? All together now Ahhhhh dee dums go & take your bat & ball home you pathetic loser. Frustrated Moore takes a time-out STUART MOORE: tired and disillusioned. Local cricket: Lake Garage CLL by KEITH McHUGH OLDHAM stalwart Stuart Moore is to take a break from CLL cricket after claiming he is “totally fed up” with the way in which his club is being treated on and off the field. He also admits that, at the age of 31, the physical demands of playing two matches each weekend is taking its toll and he is in need of a rest. In a frank interview with the Chronicle, Moore believes there is a “bias” towards some clubs and this is mirrored in the decisions of umpires during matches. Moore (31), a successful fast-medium bowler and hard-hitting middle order batsman, has played for the CLL representative side on many occasions. However, after being selected to play for the CLL against the Manchester Association earlier this season, he withdrew from the team. “I had a minor injury at the time, but could have played. I just didn’t want to represent the league and what it currently stands for,” he said. “It is hard enough as it is to get people to play at unfashionable clubs such as Oldham, but we do our best only to receive unsympathetic views time and time again by the league’s Management Committee. “That’s the reason I pulled out of playing for the league side.” Moore admits it is become increasingly difficult for Oldham to keep their heads above water. “The club has no money and is fighting to stay afloat, yet the league imposes fines such as the £50 penalty for failing to inform them about a stand-in professional when there is nothing in the league rules stating you have to do so. “Then there is the umpiring. I appreciate they have a thankless task and the majority of umpires tend to do a good job, but we as players also give our weekends up only to see them ruined by poor decisions by a minority of officials. “It just seems the rub of the green always goes against unfashionable teams such as Oldham and always in favour of teams such as the Rochdale-based sides. “This also seems to be the case when the Management Committee makes such decisions about fines, bans and other matters.” Moore, one of a number of Oldham players aggrieved by the match-defining umpiring decision to give Chinthaka Jayasinghe out leg before wicket in Saturday’s game against Heywood at the Pollards, has resigned as cricket secretary at Oldham and is no longer on the selection committee. He said the club was sympathetic to his views and actions, adding: “It’s been a hard decision to make, but I have been playing open-age cricket for the past 18 years and have never had a summer break.” Oldham have two players missing for tomorrow’s John Willie Lees Twenty20 Competition semi-final against Monton and Weaste at the Pollards, so Moore has agreed to turn out for the team. “After that I will be taking some time out,” he said. “I don’t think this is the end of my cricket career, though.” CLL chairman Howard Dronsfield was surprised by Moore’s remarks. He said: “I find it sad that someone with such long-standing success as a player in the league should come out with these statements. “As regards the inter-league team, Stuart told the captain he had a minor injury and did not want to play three games that weekend. “I can assure him there is no bias against Oldham. I speak to other clubs and they think they are the ones being hard done by. We treat everyone the same. “Oldham are not the only team struggling financially. I would say there are about 75 per cent of the clubs in the league in the same position. “We can’t treat clubs differently just because they say they are in financial difficulty.”
  6. Just heard the news, its a black day for all blues. Ernie you touched the hearts of all Latics fans with your spirit & efforts at a time when the club itself was battling for its own life. My thoughts are with your family, I lost my Dad to the big C but he & my Grandad will make you welcome in Latics heaven. My partner too is also expecting our 2nd baby on Monday, I can't imagine what your family is going through at what should be a time of joy & happiness for you & them. How can life be so cruel that your child will never see just what a great bloke you were? With the help of all Latics fans lets make sure that you will never be forgotton. Rest In Peace.
  7. How could you forget Stefan Stam? & errr whatsisname? I've forgotton oh yes Jean Paul Kalala
  8. I don't like 'stand up if you love Oldham' mainly because nobody ever does stand up which to the opposition must look like we don't love Oldham. A better song would be 'Sit down if you love Oldham' & then everyone would join in, although you would probably get some moaners who would stand up to be awkward. My favourite away song was at Hull in the FA Cup a few seasons ago when their fans were giving us stick after the riots & then we stormed back from 0-1 down to go 3-1 up. '3-1 to the Taliban 3-1 to the Taliban!' or who could ever forget the classic from the 'pinch me' season 'Tell me ma me ma to put the champagne on ice, we're going to Wembley twice que serra serra!!!!' Also the lyrics to 'lets get ready to rumble' should be changed to 'lets get ready to grumble!' I'm hoping tomorrow we will be singing 'Oh Johnnie Johnnie Johnnie Johnnie Sheridan' & 'EEE AYE EEE AYE EEE IIII OOOO Up the football league we go' because we've' won.
  9. If we change our name from Oldham Athletic to Swansea City would that mean we would be promoted?
  10. This one is easy. JP has been secretly stalking Toni Basil for months. He has been fantasising about her for years and he was that desperate to meet her he drove all the way to her holiday home in Stokholm. She invited him into her home but he was to be hugely disappointed. They chatted for a while & he tried to work out how many packets of pork scratchings he had eaten on the journey & she tried to work out how old she was. Seven pencils later he realised she is now 65! (Antonia Christina Basilotta (born September 22 1943 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA). Crikey! he said I'm going to top myself with my shoelaces thus ruling myself out for the rest of the season.
  11. I'm confused now? Technically Shez should stay at home tomorrow because he is now moaning at the moaners who are moaning at him? Its getting out of hand even all the happy clappers are moaning at the moaners.
  12. Blimey! Thats a tricky one, I seem to remember getting a similar question in my 'O' Level Maths. I've gone for Fish. By my reckoning at that speed he would have eaten them all by the time he reached Grimsby.
  13. Right I'm fed up with all this doom & gloom on here. Not sure if this has been done previously as I'm fairly new to this site but here goes anyway. Of the current teams in the Premier, Championship, League 1 & League 2 which grounds (old or new) have you watched the mighty Latics in a competitive game. (Rules - It doesn't count if you went for a jolly, or rugby match, or a conference or you drive past it in the morning or whatever, you had to be there to watch a Latics match). I was quite surprised how many I have been to (I must be getting old) but I still have some way to go to complete the lot (wife & kids permitting?). I think we will have to get relegated to do that or the likes of Rochdale ( Lol) & Chester will have to get promoted? By my reckoning there are 16 teams I have not seen us play away at either old or new grounds & a further 15 new grounds that I have not been to yet. Premier League Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, Everton, Portsmouth, Aston Villa, Blackburn, Man City (old yes, new no), West Ham, Tottenham, Middlesborough (old yes, new no), Newcastle, Wigan (old yes, new no), Reading (old yes, new no), Sunderland (old yes, new no), Birmingham, Bolton (old yes, new no), Fulham, Derby (old yes, new yes). Championship Stoke (old yes, new yes), Bristol City, Hull City (old yes, new no), Watford, West Brom, Plymouth, Ipswich, C.Palace, Wolves, Charlton (Selhurst Park yes, Valley no), Burnley, Sheff Utd, Cardiff (no), QPR, Preston, Blackpool, Norwich, Barnsley, Southampton (old yes, new no), Coventry (old yes, new no), Leicester (old yes, new no), Sheff Wed, Scunthorpe (old no, new yes), Colchester. League 1 Swansea (old no, new no), Carlisle (no), Doncaster (old yes, new no), Forest, Southend (no), Brighton (old yes, new? ...Withdene yes), Tranmere, Leeds Utd, Walsall (old yes, new no), Leyton Orient, Oldham, Northampton (old no, new yes), Hartlepool (no), Huddersfield (old yes, new yes), Swindon, Yeovil (no), Cheltenham, Bristol Rovers (Bath City yes, Memorial Ground yes, Eastville no), Millwall (old yes, new no), Crewe Alex, Gillingham (no), Bournemouth, Luton, Port Vale. League 2 MK Dons (no), Peterborough, Hereford (no), Darlington (old yes, new no), Stockport, Wycombe, Chesterfield, Rochdale (no), Grimsby, Brentford (no), Morecambe (no), Rotherham, Bradford C, Lincoln C (no), Bury, Barnet (no), Accrington Stanley (no), Shrewsbury (no), Chester (no), Dag & Redbridge (no), Macclesfield, Notts Co, Mansfield, Wrexham.
  14. Blimey! It must be all those Fruit Pastilles he had earlier?
  15. I blame Shez for these wet & windy afternoons. Is it me or has the weather got worse since he took over? I can't remember it raining this much when Talbot & Moore were in charge? This has got me thinking about next season when the NSM stand has gone. On a windy day it will be like playing in the Sahara or Bloomfield Rd with the dust blowing off the car park, maybe we should sign some Egyptian players? Hopefully it will have the same affect on the opposition as it has for Blackpool ie, nobody likes going there, lack of atmosphere etc. Also I think we should have some sort of mural (like Arsenal's) but obviously a politically correct one with pictures of supporters of all colours & creed ie fat, thin, english, asian, happy, moaners etc. & speech bubbles shouting abuse at Eardley & Taylor. What does anyone else think?
  16. If I have to choose my vote would be option 2 Black/Royal But if it was up to me we would retain the clubs traditional colours of blue & tangerine! The current kit is very popular with the fans & is what everyone has wanted for years. Now it has been totally disregarded after only one season. I cannot understand why we will have to wear a colour that is totally alien to the fans, history of the club etc. The four choices are a disgrace & I am disgusted with whoever thought these up, they are sadly not in touch with the feelings of the people they are expecting to wear them. You might as well have added purple, pink, brown, black & white stripes as none of these have anything to do with Oldham Athletic either. I for one will not be buying one.
  17. Name? Badger Location? Oldham How Long Supporting the Tics? 'til I die (since 1974ish) Best away match you've been to? Southampton on the special train from Mumps. Magical day out, got home in early hours & watched Ritchie' equaliser over & over on video, then went straight to work still pshhd. All Time Greatest Player?
