  1. I went to the match. We played very well in the first half. Two massive things happened which led to us losing the game 1) they scored just before half time and 2) we lost our concentration when they wound us up. Inexperience cost us in the end but we looked a very good team in the first half against a good team. On today's showing I would say that PD will get them winning more than they lose. I also thought the front play was good. Although they didn't score both Tounkara and Feeney worked their socks off. Tounkara is going to be a very good player when he matures. Sadly it will be Sunderland who benefit from his teaching at latics.
  2. I am not really a pork pie but I do live in Melton Mowbray and support the boys in blue!
  3. Tim Jordan is my Uncle and he was a midfielder!
  4. The club certainly needs stability so it wouldn't be a bad idea to bring someone in who knows our set up as well as having experienced other clubs structure. I would support an internal promotion coupled with an external appointment with some connections to Oldham and other clubs.
  5. I don't think Crossley would have a number 2 in mind, neither would Bunn. This sounds like a very realistic possibility to me and wouldn't be that bad a solution imo
  6. I drove past Macclesfield FC on Monday - so the answer is Latics to survive without any shadow of doubt. It will be a depressing season if we are in L2
  7. Broadway (some connection to NY investors as well as location)?
  8. Let's put it this way - the club is being realistic and showing ambition for the future by promoting a stadium that has the potential to increase capacity by +33%. Let's just hope that OLDHAM fans can fill it! This is very positive news and I just don't understand why some fans don't see it this way nor do I understand why some fans think TTA lack ambition - they have invested a lot of money in this club and above all else they saved it from doom. We are definateley moving in the right direction. Change is good imo.
  9. In Summary Dave Penney has strengthened the squad so that should be seen as positive. Jason Price - attacking midfielder/striker = needed Flahavan - goalkeeper to back-up Brill or be first choice = needed Goodwin - utility player covering injuries = needed No significant players left us OK so we didn't sign any superstars but all three have played for Penney before/play for him already so no real settling in period = good chance of fitting in quickly. Penney knows the strengths of these players first hand so we should put some faith in his decisions I am not unhappy about today's transfer activity. Who knows Jason Price for a month might be a foil for Heffernan later on anyway! Keep the faith
  10. Laughable. That is many of the comments on here. Stakeholder = person(s) that invests in the club. Majority stakeholder = person(s) that invests most money in the club. TTA = majority stakeholder = has the most say in the club. If you want to make the decisions invest your millions otherwise put up with it or move on. Yes the club needs its fans and its up to TTA to come up with something that gets them back. Until they sell up the situation won't change (and I really hope they don't go). In response to Barry - here's one person that wants them to stay.
  11. Barry, I don't comment much on this site but I feel compelled to now. It is difficult to defend the situation we are in as a football team. I think Dave Penny was the right choice at the time he was appointed and we need to give him time to establish his own team (including the foundations). He has not had a lot of luck this season and the players are obviously not responding to his methods as quickly as he would have liked. It must also be difficult for players coming in to prove themselves when their audience is as critical as it is - this cannot help their confidence. I agree with you that nobody would touch us with a barge pole if the club went up for sale. It simply isn't a viable business like most football clubs in the UK. So if TTA walk we are in no better a position, in fact we will be in a worse position. Fans need to think about the finances of the club - we don't have the pulling power of clubs like Manchester United - we are a relatively small club with little money coming in. You have to cut your cloth accordingly regardless of ambition. Regarding Dave Penney's position then the decision to keep him or sack him is the decision of the club owners alone. We have to put our faith in them to make the decision here taking into account what they see day to day as well as on matchdays. From all accounts Dave is a hard working person and this generally gets you a long way to achieving your goals. I sincerely hope that things turnaround soon and the hard work pays off. I like many other fans don't have a lot of faith that we can turn it around but what little faith we have we must and will hold on to. Fingers crossed for a bit of luck on Saturday!
  12. A mid-season (winter break) is normal in Germany. It makes some sense to. St Pauli of the second division playesd Schalke who are second in the Bundesliga last week and beat them 2-0 in a friendly arranged before the second half of the season kicks in. It's not a bad idea when the weather is marmite
  13. and the club won't cut the cost of watching the games neither = further depleted fan base. The only way is up.
  14. Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire. About 240 mile round-trip. Make it to about six matches per season at home and one or two away (although not a lot of away matches local to me anymore).
  15. Absolute tosh. One word "sustainable" Simply put Oldham Athletic is not sustainable without the financial backing of TTA. In the present economic climate the best position is that of trader and not investor. We don't have much to trade without selling the club off cheap - the club as a business is not sustainable and it is unlikely that anyone would want to invest in a club that costs money. My suggestion to all the doom and gloomers out there is be patient. TTA brought Penney in because he is proven at lower league level. He needs time to get the team right and we can't expect us to be world beaters from day one. In fact we won't be world beaters at all. If we are realistic then we should accept that this season is all about survival in league 1. We will probably make some money from the sale of players such as Chris Taylor - enough to keep the club going. This is not being un-ambitious it is being realistic. I understand that we all want success and that a win makes every supporter happy. I also understand that its an expensive hobby supporting any football team. You do have a choice and if you choose to watch or not watch the games then that's your perogative. All I would say on this is keep your emotions away from the players because it doesn't help to vent your frustration on them - that's the Manager's job. Above all keep the faith because our team needs our faith in this difficult time.
  16. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Hoilett Check out this guy. Could be another good addition as a loanee (I know we need a defender!) I have a friend who is a staunch FC St Pauli supporter (German league 2) who watched him play last season. She rates him. Looks like he might make the first team this season though which might be a problem. Worth a punt? By the way FC St Pauli is a very interesting football club based in the red light district of Hamburg. There are some similarities with Oldham i.e. poor club with fans that have lion-hearts.
  17. Hope this works and helps to diffuse some of the tension building on the forum. Please remember "it's just for fun". Don't elaborate, simply write a simple one liner. A starter for ten... "Even miracle workers get crucified"
  18. Good summary. Decent first match of the season. Thought Brill's kicking got better as the game went on. :censored: played well given that it was his first game and he is only 19! Gilbert was efficient too. Mid-table this season but hopes for next. 8 new players in the starting line up so we have to give them time. Stockport will struggle this season as they won't score enough goals imo. They battled well but on balance we could and should have won 2-0 and that would have been a fair result.
  19. I'm excited. Changes were needed after last season's brewers droop. Penney is a good Manager and is assembling a squad of players that are relatively unknown but who he obviously has belief in. His Donaster team was always one that we feared and yet didn't really contain any out and out star players. As a relatively small club we should relish the proposition that we will have a team of lads who will put in 100% effort for DP and the shirt. He trains his teams to play attractive football so this is a good thing. No doubt we will have to wait a while to see the best in them but for me if we build up to Christmas with a homogenous team and then finish top 10 this bodes well for next season and beyond. Don't expect too much and you won't be disappointed. We won't go down this season. I believe that DP will gain a lot of Oldham fans this season even if he doesn't get us promoted. I am traveling up from Melton Mowbray tomorrow and I can't wait...... Dave Penney's blue and white army.
