What has tempo and effort got to do with these rumours? Anyway...you want Shez out ok but don't claim "rumours" to justify your opinion unless you are prepared to be clear what you are getting at

all we have had so far about the "rumours" is the Port Vale allegation. presumably the other rumours were rumours about rumours. Fact is with the crowds we get, injuries there have been and the need for prudent financial management this season is, relatively speaking, a success. I am as disappointed as anyone that we remain in this division but still think we have a decent management structure in place, and that longer term things will get better. Just compare Shezza's record with Moore and Talbot, given the resources, and give the bloke a chance

so what are the rumours you referred to in your original post and the source of those rumours? You list "what you see" and your opinion based on that. I disagree and remain a Shez in latic. Does that make me a clown too ? Or should you grow up a bit

Think letting Rocastle go was correct decision and that Chris Taylor is a decent player, otherwise agree with the reasoned arguments of D. W. Been a difficult season that would test the mettle of any manager...injuries, Lee Hughes controversy, handling of Ricketts situation. Overall, despite the disappointment we are not 10 points clear at the top,or even going to make the play offs it could have been worse. This coming close season and period up to Christmas will be key pointers to the future, so until then, at least, Shez is the man for the job

I hoped it would work out for him and latics when he signed, but it was a big con and the sceptics esp. coco were right all along. He must be the worst signing ever made in the Kevin Moore sense i.e. he did not give a stuff about latics or the paying punters.

The Bournemouth full back played him well...or does that not count ? Give him a chance

Last competitive matches were 1973/1974 season I believe. We went up to Div 2 as champs, Dale relegated to Div 4. Walter Joyce was their manager who put his faith in youngsters. Latics won both games, 3-0 BP and 2-0 Spotland I think, and I saw both games. In fact saw all homes and about 10 aways that season. Great days for Latics. I think Dale are content to stay in League 3 cos of finances etc but I would love them to come up and always look for their results plus still go to the odd game at spotland

Shez is right not to pay inflated wages in my opinion. Its his judgement and he recognises that he is responsible for his decisions. I believe longer term planning is right, sooner miss out this year and do it next, than risk big money to make play offs but still not go up. Its disappointing if we fall away again, but long term I believe the future is bright (happy clapper?) Corporal Jones, whose opinion I respect but disagree with, reckons with some justification that the punters wont return till the team improves..so we should sign someone (or two) quickly. History shows that the Oldham public need long term improvement to convince them to attend BP regularly and the last 10 years have been grim. So its a long term job and one striker on loan for a quick fix wont do it. We have no choice but to hope the TTA are genuine, and that Shez is the right manager. I think they are and he is....but next close season is key for me

its about opinions, but I must be watching different games thn those who want Taylor dropped (and those who slate Eardly and Davies)...he gives his all every game, sometimes more effectively than others admitted. Warne, who I like by the way, also gave his all, but was generally less effective than Taylor, yet is hailed as a legend

as a fan, if you don't dream of better times for latics what's the point? The history shows its possible given the right manager

Agree with L L, and it shows Shez is right to stick to his policy of only signing players who will improve the squad. Was in Main stand today towards Rochdale Road end..got complimentary tickets. Muppets on the back rows singing "we're so s**t its unbelievable" and slagging off Davies at every opportunity. Glad that Davies with his goal and the team in general shut them up second half

Can't argue with that. Success on the field is the only sure way to increase attendance. Free pies, vouchers posters etc etc are of very limited effect and may lose the club money. A win on Saturday (or draw & win replay maybe even better) is vital

Watching latics aint about logic we can all now get to citeh with their sugar daddy if we want but it is not the same and never could be. I'm with bigfin and diego on this you keep the faith...nobody is forcing you to attend BP. For what its worth I believe we are at the start of a new era, and with the right people in charge. OK the league position is disappointing but Leeds, Everton wow what a week that was. And compare OAFC over the years with say Rochdale, Stockport, Bury, Tramere, Gillingham etc. etc....doesn't look so bad now does it ? KTF

Disappointed i could not attend tonight, but not half as disappointed as i was after attending the first meeting. Historic night for Latics. the blues have prevailed against ignorant prejudice. now its up to the lads on the pitch!

They will not be entitled to legal aid, and are clutching at straws...don't worry about it. if the objectors have any sense they will co-operate now with OAFC to keep goodwill at the detail discussion stage.

Hard to believe what i heard at the meeting tonght 1. The committee members did not seem to have bothered to read the reports properly 2. The chairman doubted the validity of his own official's traffic figures 3. The utter negativity of it all 4. A semi articulate councillor who did not understand the word heraditement which he pronouncd as herediment 5. A complete inability or refusal to see the bigger picture and the potential benefit to the town 6. Rejecting the recommendation of its own officials In all a terrible night for OAFC. No one could blame TTA if they throw in the towel now. Dealing with these councillors must be like trying to push water uphill. Who is going to be interested in OAFC when the Town Council have tonight demonstrated they do not care. I hope the club can somehow survive this, but at the moment things look bleak. An appeal against this ridiculous decision would probably succeed as legally the council are all over the shop, but tonight must have knocked the stuffing out of Mr. Corney who did a great job and has clearly consulted all interested parties and behaved impeccably. I wonder if property speculators would have been as sensitive to local feeling.

I thought Ricketts did really well some class touches and I clapped him as he came off. From the club's point of view we have to make it work with Ricketts even if only to restore his form with a view to a possible big bucks sale. The problem seems to me to be he does not yet gel with the rest of the team, and I am still on the fence as to whether this is his fault, or the tactics or whatever. Fact is that to me, in this league nippy quick uns like Wolfy cause more problems for defences than what Ricketts has to offer at the moment ...so its a connundrum for Shez to sort out. As for Chris Taylor, his crosses are only effective from his right foot, so he always has to check back, so Taylor right wing and Davies left wing could be an option worth trying. As for the moaners I really think some people go to enjoy moaning and it is pathetic eg in the main stand, row O at Chaddy side a drunken herbert with a hooped sweater was tossing V signs at Ricketts as he came off. Nowt like encouraging the lads is there. I don't reckon to be a football tactical genius like, but overall, as said earlier, the TEAM gave their all and I reckon we are on the right road, but Rome wasn't built in a day so for goodness sake encouragement not destructive herbertism is the way forward fans wise

Thanks for that O A.exile. Wonder when your old fellas first game was. Bet he is grey haired and twitchy like me ... the Latics has that effect long term. My old fella (now watching Latics from above rest his soul) used to rave about Eric Gemmell and his gravity defying jumping ability (for headers I hasten to add)

Fascinating posts about our history. My first game was in 1958 as an 8 year old so I am older but not necessarily wiser. There have been dreadful years ...late 50's late 60's ..in between was the Booby Johnstone BertLister era with 14000+ at BP ..but that was Div 4. Looking back the best years were arguably when we were rock solid in Div 2 under Frizz, but even then there were some hair raisingly bad starts and flirtation with relegation. Yes the prem and cup years were brilliant, but realistically I would now settle for a solid championship side, and hard as that may be to imagine I still think/hope this will be possible. To my shame I lost faith under Sharpe, Talbot (especially) and Ronnie Moore, watching limited games with increasing despair. At least last season, we were watching a side that tried to play decent football and I still believe that under Shez, we can come good. He admits himself he is still learning and his honesty and no bull approach is admirable. In summary it is our history that raises us above (with respect) the likes of Stockport, Tranmere etc..and when things are tough that history helps in keeping the faith.
