  1. bobby johnstone playing keepy uppy in the centre circle in his first match for latics telling bert lister where to run then splitting the exeter defence with the pass for the first of 5 goals to come back from 2-0 to win 5-2 In terms of a season though it has to be 73/74, power cuts so a generator used to power the floodlights as we beat cambridge 6 -1, grovesy's debut against aldershot, winning at bristol rovers easter saturday then beating southport 2-0 at their ground easter monday, having beaten them 6-0 at BP on the friday beating huddersfield 6-0 to clinch promotion losing at home to charlton when we needed to win for the championship (never been in main stand paddock since!) then listening to radio commentary when we hung on for a goalless draw at plymouth to clinch the championship of division 3. reception on town hall steps and a mate of mine refusing to show his bare backside on the same steps even though he had said he would if latics won promotion. all this just makes me realise how lucky we are to still have the latics in existence to support. misty eyed reading this thread and writing this lol
  2. No extra time and the rain eased off in time for the trudge home
  3. Born July 1950. Lost opening game of 50-51 season 5-4 to Rotherham and the last game lost 3-1 at Rotherham...i blame Ronnie Mo*re
  4. From the main stand it looked like superb save from eardley & O'Grady shot over the bar
  5. Youngster from morecambe hit by a coin. What moron could throw a coin at people ??? not a good night
  6. Davies RW O'Grady & Hughes Tayls LW Maher Whittaker midfield Eards Stam Reuuuuubs Lomax 4-2-4 in preparation for inevitable aerial warfare at Tranmere Gives Norm, Greegs, Allott, Lewis & Lidds a rest. After the 5th goes in against Morecambe bring Hughesy off for a rest Any thoughts ?
  7. Comment was tongue in cheek but relatively Latics are the more successful club in modern times and with a potentially bright future. In the late 50's & 60's Oldham was considered by some to be a rugby town. Personally I have no ill will towards the yeds, but have no real interest in them, or egg chasing in general
  8. There is no point on any logical or rational basis but once you are hooked you can't help yourself. Saw my first game as an 8 year old in 1958. The rare successful seasons make it worthwhile. In my lifetime I've seen bobby johnstone, the Frizzell years, the Royle years and div 1/prem so I guess i am one of the luckier tics. Spare a thought for the poor b*ggers who support dale, stockport, crewe, gillingham and about 60 others. What saddens me is that the greedy league is only meaningful in the context of the wider picture and all clubs should theoretically have a chance of prem status. Even the united and chelsea "fans" may one day end up bored with a 2 horse race every season. Anyway onwards and upwards + 3 points tomorrow ---- but with Latics you really never know - maybe thats what its all about
  9. Ron Futcher fighting with our physio against being taken off. Can't remember the game, but it was a bitter cold day and we were in a relegation dogfight - for a change. Later that season Wayne Harrison was sold to Liverpool
  10. "Don't think I've ever been called prissy before... TTA probably could have worded it better, but I still support the basis of what they're saying. Unless there's a big shift of people, the RRE has to accommodate fans who've come from two very different stands this season - the Chaddy, and the Lookers (Upper especially). I know the temptation is just to push back at the whingeing oldies who don't like yound rowdy fans standing up and swearing... but the truth is there is going to need to be some compromise. From both sides. (And before anyone else says it, I know very well that those who've complained are likely to be the most stubborn). I think it's a shame that so many evidently complained after the very first game - especially given who it was against. Anyone with a degree of common sense and willingness to compromise even just a little would have waited a game or two to see how things settle down. On the flip side, those who want to stand need to have a little consideration for the people sat behind them, and if people are going to insist on standing for long periods of the game then they can expect ejections. As I've already said, this isn't just the club being awkward - it's the law, and it doesn't matter one iota whether you like it or not." Spot on "If you honestly think that, you really are a complete :censored:ing prick." But watch your language you stupid c**t !!!
  11. Against Hull Alessandra and Smalley showed how ineffective Davies and O'Grady had been. Today Alessaandra and Hughes with the help of Whittaker transformed the game. Think they are the best strike pair at present
  12. I would guess Eardley is the one attacting the interest. I reckon he is a cracking good player and if he has to be sold, then big money. Don't understand why to some he is "overrtated" "hyped" etc.
  13. Always been a bit uneasy about goal music - potentially a bit naff imo... As a latic at the more mature end i like the fact that mouldy old dough is unique to latics and it brings back some great memories (and not so great) Fanfare is good but again potentially cheesy in this day and age. So Mouldy old dough and the crowd would get my vote if that was possible
  14. Dowd Hardwick Barratt Jobson Irwin Ritchie Johnstone Redfearn Groves Stainrod Lister Subs - not needed game would be won by half-time
  15. At least latics are trying to build for the future realistically. Doncaster are basically a non league outfit with mega rich owners, so you are right, OAAFC can't compete with them for that reason. Its a b*llache, but there it is
  16. The fans of OAFC are entitled to the very best players, ground, lowest prices, free pies and drinks and on no account should they have to be concerned about where the money comes from. Ken B*tes used to scorn the financial geniuses amongst the latics fans eg average gate 5000 at £20 each. so lower the price to £15 and put another thousand on the gate problem solved.
  17. no definite start date for building of new stand says simon blitz in chairmans message in yesterday's match programe. "Many issues need to be resolved but nothing will consume more of our time than this" He also says "We won't be here forever but when we leave it will be in a much stronger psition than when we arrived" ( the club not the stand that is)
  18. Not a question of being negative, realistic. Without commitment to buy the development land Latics can't really move forward and I agree with the earlier post that it is all or nothing and may be a longer lead in time than first thought
  19. looks like the demolition has been postponed. The club will need legal commitment from developer(s) of the site before they can start the new stand, as per report. Wonder whether NSM is being demolished regardless ? If so its to be hoped that the next stage of the scheme falls into place otherwise we could end up with a 3 sided ground for a long time. I would imagine the revised mix of dwellings must still stack up revenue wise otherwise the whole scheme could be at risk....just to be cheerful like
