  1. I still have a memory of at least one of them being capped before the semi-final. Or was it the U-21s? Help!!!!
  2. He's still only 29? He's been around for ages. I always thought he was a very good player, but his injury problems are monumental. Still, worth a punt.
  3. Well, the memory keeps playing tricks. Kids, wife and middle age (and a large amount of alcohol over a long period of time). Stay single and sober (maybe if you stay single there's a better chance of staying sober). I thought it was the cup season, fixtures piling up and Joe ordered a private plane for them both just to help them rest a little. Was it just Milligan?
  4. He's only had three days! The booing was ridiculous. Nervous start - to be expected. Showed bits in the second half. Kept trying to get them to keep it down and play - promising. When they passed and moved from midfield I thought they looked good. But it is very, very early to be passing judgment. Besides, I have a theory. It's very scientific. If you impress in your first game, you then get progressively worse and finish up failing. McClaren, wow great first win. If you don't impress you then slowly get better. Fab, little dull, world cup here we come! Yes, it is a scientific fact as everyone who replies will agree!!! Most frightening thing about last night was the presence of Fab. Is it just me, or did anyone else feel 'oh crap' when he left the bench after five minutes and stood on the touchline. He is the Godfather!!
  5. There was an identical incident at Burnley. A lad was stood two steps down, something came over, he turned to his dad and there was this dart sticking out just above his eye. Was it around 1979? Was Steve Kindon playing? It all kicked off afterwards. Bad old days.
  6. TEN pages now. Please, what is the record???
  7. I remember him. He got so big in the end he needed two seats on the coaches. Funniest moment was when he was steward and, as it often did in that corner, it all kicked off. He filled his boots. I've never seen such a big man move so fast. Where is he now?
  8. 'mere existence is meaningless'. as ever, you are totally entitled to your views, you have a perfectly reasoned argument, and i'm not having a dig, but i now feel like sitting in a dark corner while i contemplate the wider significance of this.
  9. I thought we drew 2-2. My memory really is getting bad. Or am I mixing my riots - was that the Long Good Friday city riot?
  10. Nice one. That was a day to remember (or forget). There was even fighting all over Ashton. Great game though. Stainrod remains one of my personal all time favourites.
  11. Did he get very drunk very quickly? The funniest one was when we were at Sheff.Wed the season of the Stainrod/Curran inspired riot. I was with my mate from school. We were shocked to find ourselves at the side of their end of the ground with a very small wall between us. He came up to us and I hadn't met him before. He slurs what sounded like 'are you an Oldham :censored:house?' I looked at my mate and, yes, we certainly felt like that. Then he repeated with a slight smile, 'are you from oldham, where's the :censored:house.' We laughed and thought, 'standing in front of you.' Then again, their end of the ground was very large and intimidating, especially after one of the worst riots ever.
  12. Ideally, it would be nice to have only 3-4 changes over a year, to have a stable core. How else can you really build a 'team.' But I also wonder about the structure of the modern game in the lower leagues. Are we the only one like this? It seems that there are more journeymen than ever, players getting a signing-on fee, staying for 1-2 years and them off to the next signing-on fee and short term contract. Or is it just us? Any stats on player turn over in the lower leagues?
  13. Corrie - the tension between Liam and Carla is building!!! Nice to see Terry briefly back - put on a bit of weight!!!
  14. The rumour was because of his injury ie early retirement. I think the defence has performed really well without him, but we need bodies back in the squad fighting for places, so i'd welcome him back, but not an automatic starter.
  15. I hope not. That would have a terrible impact on the south african economy (and prestige) and for the game in Africa. Still, being purely selfish, it would be nice to hae it in europe, but Germany again? I suppose they're the ones who had it last ime and therefore best equipped. Could we host it?
  16. Phil the Daffodil!! Good grief. There was also a big lad, Dutty - you may have mentioned his name. And there was a red haired lad who went everywhere but was always legless. Once, at Birmingham, he was that drunk he couldn't manage to get back up the steep terracing. And what about caveman!!! Not to mention your goodself Bob. Was it you who once paid for the coaches to take fans to Derby?
  17. i know. express an opinion and some instantly take it as a chance to take the mickey, rant or just give abuse. the whole point of these internet sites to allow a free flow of opinion not to try and frame opinion or abuse people. i still don't know what he was getting at. don't worry about it.
  18. 'because of supporters like you'. explain? i thoght it was because of groo misconduct. he's entitled to comment on ricketts' departure.
  19. so everyone sing from the same hymn sheet or leave. i've noticed a trend on these boards. no criticism, ever, unless it suits you. 'if you don't like go to man u'. typical. what's up, don't you like your cosy love-being disturbed by individuals with opinions? does it hurt your brain or make you cry because someone questions what you think? will the nice man from stretford get upset and leave. grow up.
  20. easy to forget, he is only 19. young players very often start well, dip in form and then start to pick up again. personally, i thinks he's a good 'un who needs a little pressuer taking from him.
