  1. Yes, it could be an age thing. The people i talk too still mention beating United 2-0 not 1-0!! It DID cross the line! Stepney was beaten, and he knew it! Happy days.
  2. I hope so. It's a general feeling about the division and, probably, the fact that, like me, so many who I talk to were actually brought up on a diet of top two division football which was so much better. I've always found it very difficult to adjust to the quality in this division. It's not about success. So much of the time we struggled in the old Div 2, but you knew there would be some good football (even it was from the opposition) at some stage over the season. Perhaps I'm just getting old and nostalgic.
  3. Despite the general feeling that we shouldn't be too down-hearted, the fact is that many people you talk to are very fed up. Happy clappys can gloss over it as much as they like. The crowds are going down. Why? This league is incredibly dull. Say what you like, it is a very boring league and has been for ten years. As someone who watched the club for over 20 years in the top two divisions, i've never been able to appreciate anything about this dull division. It wasn't all wonderful in the past, and i remember standing in the chaddy with less than 4,000 against teams like Middlesbrough, but you were guaranteed some great moments/games over the course of a season. For me the basic cause of frustration is that this is a poor division with average-poor teams playing poor-average football, and we are no different. All very boring. Say what you like - you can't deny it is very, very dull football.
  4. I thought he'd retired (and his wages were £30,000 per week). And 'loan' rather than 'trial' suggests he's at another club - more careful logic!
  5. Good piece of logic! Wasn't he on something ridiculous like £30,000 pa. Also, if it is Hartson, we'd need to know about fitness (he was always a bit of a fatty) and attitude. We wouldn't want another McGinley (spelling??).
  6. Yes, Joe was a good player and quite intimidating without his front teeth!!
  7. I first raised this a few weeks ago - rumour i heard from a few people with no real contacts. However, i didn't realise he had 18 months left. I thought his contract was only until the end of this season. If it's next year then why pay him off? Besides, latest news suggests he's on his way back.
  8. Yes, i can see the logic. I was just wondering, if he's an established player then you've a good idea of his ability. I was just thinking if the same approach was applied to everyone and every team then what would the result be? Nobody gets a contract until they've been on loan? It could be a very good idea because it makes you more confident in the person/character. And it works both ways. Once they've been with us for a month they will, of course, be far more likely to want to stay! Just a thought.
  9. Has Dabo scarred him. Otherwise, it seems a little over cautious.
  10. I thought about him as soon as i heard the news. Didn't he have a spell at County? if so, he could still have connections with the area.
  11. Norman Kelly. Saw her at Blackburn Think we've struggled with this.
  12. Do people really agree with docking 10 points? i think it is immoral. Who are they punishing? Fans. Players. What about the people really responsible. Look at Risdale. Whatever you think about Leeds is not the point. He took the club down a disasterous path. Ruined them. Then he goes off to Barnsley and Cardiff, Leeds fans suffer. He should be banned. Same thing could so easily have happened to us. Make the fans and players suffer, not the idiots responsible. I feel for Rotherham fans.
  13. Warm balls are reserved for the semis to make sure small clubs are drawn against big clubs. This is, of course, a well known fact ever since the period 1990-94!!!!
  14. Couple of warmed balls in the semi draw!!!
  15. I remember the Aizlewood challenge. He somtimes does Welsh tele. Can't stand him for doing what he did to poor Frankie. By the way, what was the result of that game? Was it a draw?
  16. 'I like cheese.' Ralp Wigam on philosophy.
  17. Didn't Flynn manage to 'accidently' kick Baird in the head from a corner in the same gme, for which he was booked-total accident, of course!!!
  18. I remeber the first game at Hillsborough. We we were in control at 2-0. Sheridan ran the second half. Superb. Finished 2-2.
  19. Don't wash shirt or scarf once weve won until we lose. Then we have to wash out the bad luck!!! They're usually quite clean!!
  20. Agree with all of the above (possible exception of Porter). What about Alan Young? Frankie Bunn? Personal favourites were Ritchie, Stainrod, Palmer and Wilde (and Quinn). Infact, i also liked Halom, and the much maligned Ron Futcher - Royle described him as deceptively slow!!! Loved all of them. Then there were the stikers who didn't quite cut it.Hmmm. McGarvey, Parkin, Banger, Currie (talented lazy S$%t -i'm still fuming about that Schmichel (can't spell) incident.
  21. Denis Iriwn became the best right-footed left back ever. It can be done.
  22. Don't know if this is posted on another thread, but Bridges turned us down on deadline day. Mirror late again!
  23. What about the u-21s? Stretching you now!!!
