  1. Is there some history here? At the end of last season Poleon missed a home game, not sure which, but at the time he was playing well. He then turned up and sat in front of us in the main stand. When we asked a club "official" why he was missing the reply was "He's been a naughty boy". The obvious reason, we concluded, was that he had been omitted for disciplinary reasons.
  2. Promotion Sheffield United, Wigan, Bradford City Relegation Crewe, Colchester, Port Vale, Walsall Our position 11th Total: 15pts
  3. Driving on the M62 to Yorkshire yesterday morning I passed a small convey of 4 Yelloway coaches. It brought back memories of happy away trips in the 60s and 70s. A group of us always used to book and be picked up in Shaw. For some trips the coach would be full with Gawbies. For longer trips the coach would then either pick up at the main office in Oldham or pick up in Middleton. The convey would then start often joined by coaches from Stotts, Healings and, of course, Barlows. I spent many happy journeys in anticipation of an away victory unfortunately usually followed by disappointment as a capitulation on the pitch spoiled the day/night. Now those convoys, which at times went well into double figures, have turned into a solitary coach and a mini-bus. Supporters these days don't experience the thrill and noise of 1000 plus Latics fans all turning up at a ground at the same time. Great days. Now then where is that train timetable!
  4. Signed. Could have been us in the past, could also be us in the future.
  5. David Currie Tony Hateley Brian Kilcline Neil MacDonald Tommy Wright (on his return)
  6. Alan Lawson. Who remembers the song we sang to the tune of Scottish Soldier. There was a half back A scottish half back And Lawson was his name and clogging was his game He came to Oldham When Celtic sold him he clogged them glorious he was victorious He clogged Jim Fryatt And Barry Stobart he sent them far away To the infirmary Happy days
  7. Only two in the frame, Alan Lawson or George Sievewright. The hardest has to be Lawson though.
  8. If Evans signed Questions If you were playing for another club and Latics were after signing you would you sign? (think about the reaction from your family and friends) If you were currently a player at Latics would you want to be seen out socially with him (again think about the reaction) When he scores then as a player how would you celebrate? Run and mob him etc.etc? Bottom line is would signing Evans make it more difficult to retain our present squad and sign new players?
  9. Calvin Zola away at Hartlepool. The game that was supposed to be our last. Missed from 6 inches playing towards the packed away end
  10. Liverpool in cup 1977? Minimum 10,000, some say as many as 15,000 Northwich, same season, had to be played at Maine Road because too many Latics fans went to Northwich for tickets (myself included). Gate 27,000. Work out for yourself how many Latics fans but the Kippax was heaving York away 1974, 8,000 at least in a crowd of 16,000 York away 1971, night game. At least 5,000. In fact all York games in the early to mid 70's had huge followings including 2,000+ for a pre season friendly Rochdale in cup 1970. "Took" both ends as they say. 8,000 As you say we took some big followings back in the day.
  11. Smith scored tonight. A mistake surely- it's only October. Mind you, pleased for him.
  12. Keep the faith. A Northern Soul phrase coined by Dave Godin in Blues and Soul magazine in 1970
  13. He might have said it because you aren't going to be undiplomatic and say they are rubbish if asked directly. I have seen quite a few lower league players as technically good as some of ours. The difference is they haven't got the speed and power
