  1. We didn't deserve to win today. Another frustrating performance against a lower placed side even if they are in a false position. We struggle to break these sides down at home and just resort to long balls. Most times it plays into their hands. In the last 4 home games we have failed to beat 3 teams who are in the bottom 5. The one thing that really frustatated me though was Brightons constant shirt tugging. Every time a latics player turned every brighton player without exception tugged the shirt. Not once did they get pulled up for it. They obviously practice it in training and it is extremely annoying.
  2. Agree - Its the kids that are not only the future but the way to ultimately increase attendances. It wont happen overnight but this is the area they should concentrate on. Older people are set in their ways and it will be impossible to get enough of them out of their armchairs to make it worthwhile. Target the kids far more aggressively and let the kids in free and they will bring adults along. Stockport do family tickets for £15 at some games - 2 adults and 1 child. If kids under 11 or so were allowed in free they will pester their parents to go. Who is going to take them - Mum or Dad and they will need to pay to get in.
  3. That game being called off cost us our premier league place. The day we should have played Spurs we obviously played Manure in the cup. At the time Spurs were below us and in one of the worst spells in their history (worse than their start this year). i am sure if we had played them then we would have beaten them When we did play it some time latter spurs had picked up and were in a good run.The 2-0 loss left us with a mountain to climb to esacpe. 3 points from the game played on the original date would have saved us !!! Ah well - but thats's history now and what might have been !!!!
  4. Who is kidding who with this charge. Can you imagine our inept councils trying to waste £3 bn on public transport. We will end up with a public transport system no better than current. What will this do ? Get all those people that initially gave the car up back on the roads in their cars. Guess what - more congestion with the council rubbing their hands with glee at the extra billions they are coining in through the charges. There should be guarantees put in place that IF (or when) the councils fall short of the intended public system services then the charge is suspended until such time it is corrected.
  5. anyone got any great memories of players and visiting players who have played at BP and how long have you been supporting latics?? Bobby Moore in the 70s and what a goal he scored , for us !!!!!!! Been regular since 1961 , reckon i have seen approaching 1500 games home and away since then. At one stage in the 90s i had been to all 92 league grounds. Would think with new grounds and teams in the league it is probably down to about 70 + now.
  6. That type of injury can happen at any time , even now so you can't worry about that. We could sell him to a premier club and then loan him back until end of season !!
  7. See OG scored a couple for the ressies tonight , Definitely worth a go from the start next game i think.
  8. Surely if we are in the top 3 at new year we will have realistic chance of going up. Promotion would be worth far more that 1.5 or even 3 Mill. If we don't go up in May then we can sell because he is still under contract. Think he signed until 2011 ??? No need to panic sell in Jan surely TTA can wait.
  9. I know the forwards had poor service for a lot of the game but Byefield showed nothing to impress. Can't think he will benefit the team anymore than OG or Lewi. Think it is time to give OG a run and see what happens.
  10. If we win the rest of our league games this season we are guaranteed promotion.
  11. If we got to the championship i think we would increase gates more than 1000. There are some great local games that would attract a lot of away fans - Burnley , Preston , Blackpool , Sheffield x 2 , Derby plus the premiership clubs that are relegated, Tottenham and Newcastle will bring a few.
  12. Then TTA are living in gaga land. Yes they have saved us from possible bankruptcy and ploughed a few quid in but if they think that allowing a big wage bill for Shez to bring in loan players is some guarantee of expectation of promotion then they certainly are in gaga land. Look at Leeds and the millions spent on their squad - where are they , in exactly the same position as us. Says a lot for Shez !!
  13. Some people live in gaga land. If Shez went its not a matter of who we would get as opposed to who would take it ?? BIG difference. Back in 1990 when we played Utd in semi they were all saying if we won then AF would be sacked. proportionately he had far more resources than Shez at the time and look how he struggled. Admitted that under Shez we have had some really bad games but we have also had some of the best performances since big Joe - Leeds twice away , Everton , Huddersfield away , Scunny , Forest to name a few. We expect too much , get real , and wake up to the fact we are a financilly struggling team in League one with gates bearly covering 5000. Losing money and fortunately owners who rescued us from the mire.Probably in the league one of well off we would be in the relegation zone but we expect promotion !!!!! I think given time he will get it right but admit he has a few faults that need ironing out. His two main probems appear to be - 1/ Man management (think i read on a post somewhere that he is struggling not be one of the boys) thats the biggest problem in any management job when promoted from within. 2/ Dithering with transfer targets. I think when he gets them right then he will be a good manager. The issue is do we give him time or get somebody else in , start from scratch (because they will want their own players in) and put up with their faults ?? I say give Shez time.
  14. And he is playing in front of bigger crowds. Stockport got 3500 last night. We did manage to beat Bury (only just) and Droylsden though. Taylor gone in Jan
  15. Can't argue with the Chron - Below is the ruling from the FA - (ii) A player recalled, at any time prior to the date of the Round, to his original Club from temporary (loan) transfer, in accordance with the terms of the loan agreement, may represent his original Club. Such player may only play in postponed and replayed matches if he had been recalled in time for the first match. So basically in the space of a few weeks we have gone from a glut of strikers that we had to loan them out to get games, to Lewi upfront alone. Great management that is !!!
  16. O'grady was only loaned to Bury - Latics hold his registration which doesn't change with a loan.
  17. Ogrady should be back today ? So he could play up front with lewi , job sorted Morecambe he we come.
  18. Absolutely right - It CAN cause confusion (whether it did here or not i don't know) but the fact remains that the colours clash. If a sub was warming up in a similar position he would be asked to move or cover his top. Can't believe that clubs have allowed the shirt manufacturers to dictate what colours teams should wear away. Don't let anybody kid you it was supporters choice it was a commercial business decision. They should be scrapped.
  19. Amazing how many other teams supporters voted for that awful kit !!! About as trustworthy as an american election vote in Florida !!!!
  20. Or in Hughes language - Finki'llmiss The Cheltenham Match
  21. Although O'Grady was at Bury when the first game was played he is still a registered player with latics. I think he can play on Tuesday if he is back.
  22. They only played as well as they were allowed. Remember they haven't lost at home since March. one and a half games without Gregan and yet to concede - underlines what i have been saying for a while , that whilst Gregan is technically a better defender than Stam he upsets the balance of the defence.
  23. Whits was injured in training during the week. Agree with report , spot on in everything. The thing with Hughes is he hasn't learn't from the previous week. He missed the cup game because of a stupid booking against Yeovil. Then does exctly the same again today ?? But then again it probably goes some way to explaining why he is playing for us in the first place !!!!
  24. Yes it was Newcastle - But they ain't in league one - YET
