  1. They couldn't be any worse than Luton last year and look what they did to us !!!! We seem to have a nasty habit of breaking other clubs runs ie Stockport - haven't won at home all season . enough said
  2. In terms of the club deciding that its right to let him go before he does - then I think the money required to do that is not what we will get offerred. Cannot see £1.5-2 million offers coming in - we are Oldham, it doesn't happen. Earl barrett !!!!!!
  3. It is very relevant from a fee point of view.. The fact he wont want to go will add half a million to the price. Any team coming in for him will know they will have to offer a great deal to tempt him away. He wont be one of those that becomes unsettled at transfer talk and end up wanting away which reduces the selling clubs hold ?
  4. Agree with these points you make. Thought Taylor was excellent especially in the second half. Would have taken Lomax off at H/T and brought Byrnes on but in view of Greegan dismissal it's a good job we didn't. Greegan worries me though - Absolutely outstanding at Leeds and Tranmere but nightmare game against MKD last week and another this week. Given 2 silly penalties away in 2 weeks and could have conceeded another against MKD which was very boderline. It seems he is either brilliant or extremely clumsy and does some very niaive things. He could cost us dear during the season if he keeps this up. 3 game ban will give us a chance to see if we need him or not - didn't for most of last season !!!!
  5. Don't agree with your report - First half was even enough on possession but Crossley didn't have one shot save to make. Except for a few crosses he came for and the odd dead ball he was a spectator. We created the much better chances and although 2-0 did flatter us a little we did deserve to be in front. Then we had the 7 minutes of madnes that probably even Hartlepool couldn't explain what happened but we reacted well to come back and equalise. Greegan was reckless and i would be surprised if an appeal was successful although as you say Terry got off with it. After Greegan went we completely dominated the last 20 minutes. I have never seen a 10 man team dominate possession as much especially away from home. Davies had a great lob just missed , O'Grady had one great shot saved and another rattled the bar. They did nothing in the last 20 mins. I would have been happy with a draw before hand but i am bitterley diappointed we didn't win it. We had enough chances in the last 20 mins to score 3.
  6. Byrne - Distribution bad ? Sounds like he has picked up a few tips from Eardley already !!
  7. Don't laugh but I though the rule had changed now where it is the lower body part (ie feet) that are offside !!!!!! Sure i heard it mentioned on MOTD last week ??
  8. Talking of bosh did anybody see his penalty miss on Saturday ? Got to be pen miss of the season.
  9. We don't need to worry about others - Just win our games. If we win all our games nobody can catch us - easy
  10. could say that about any game Branston played in (well nearly any game)
  11. This has developed because the powers that be desperately want a european league . We would have had it years ago but there is only one big drawback to it- relegation. They still can't come up with a way to apply relegation which is one of the fundamentals of any league. If they could we would have a european super league. This format is the nearest thing they can get to it.
  12. If big Joe would have done that in 1994 with a minute to go we would have got to the cup final!!!!!
  13. Most annoying things in football - 1/ Septic Blatter 2/ -The offside rule - 3/ and the worst rule of the lot this silly situation of players having to leave the field after treatment. You get your player hacked down witha leg breaker and you get penalised by having to play on with 10 men at the freekick. Time septic Blatter changed the rules back or retired. Or better still BOTH
  14. How well he did last week !!! If you mean Tranmere he was cr*p . Poor performance with little interest and deserves dropping. O'Grady did far more when he came on and deserves to stay on the becnh with Smalley as next in line after Hughes and Lewi.
  15. Also when under pressure you can always rely on Lids to get you a free kick .
  16. Whittle goal was away at york in 74. If i remember right he did it again in the following home match on the Tuesday , may have been bournemouth ?? Took it from just inside their half near the dug outs shooting towards the chaddy end. Does anybody remember miss of the century - It was crewe away - may have been a friday night. Big jim Fryatt breaks through one on one with goalie. Chips it over his head and runs round him. Thinking the ball is going in he just follows it in with his hands in the air only for it to hit the post. In his panic he puts the rebound wide !!!!
  17. Marshy's two goals at Ipswich that won us promotion to the top league. Colin Garwood Hatrick at Bournemouth Going on the disco train to Bournemouth Going on the train to Southampton and getting back at 6 am (worth it for Andy's goal) Being 4 up against workington in some poxy cup and losing 7-4 ?? leaving BP when 2-0 up against wolves in cup to arrive home for mum to say sorry you only drew. Beating Huddersfield 6-0 to win promotion. I know it's been mentioned but when winning the ford sporting league every month the best bit was Manure whinning every month it wan't fair because the points were carried over to the next month and we were so far in front nobody could catch us. Seeing Bobby Johnstone leave the pub at Ayresome Park at 2.45 to drunk to stand up. Billy Johnston took his place. Coming back from Donny one friday night with no coach windows - bloody freezing over the moors. The last 3 games of the great escape season. Arriving late at Crystal Palace one Sunday and were 3-0 down when we got in. Burnnley scoring 3 goals whilst we were in the queue to get in at BP. Maurice Whittle free kick against York David Shaw hatrick on his second debut OH HAPPY DAYS
  18. You can only beat the teams that you play - Like us they have done well on limited resources and i would prefer to see Carlisle come up with us than Leeds for instance. Don't know how you can knock a team like that ???????????????
  19. Crossley brilliant - yes Slimmer - don't get carried away !!!!
  20. Shez said he was asked to leave the pitch area because the ref didn't like the way he asked him to let the game flow. I can say without it sounding sour grapes because we won , but the FA should look into ref displays like that and take action. The guy was intent on spoiling the game from the start. After less than 5 mins and one tackle on each side he called both the captains together and told them he was going to start booking players if they didn't cool it. It was the ref that should have cooled it because he lost is head in a game that was nothing more than hard fought by both sides. The players on each side made very lttle of the challenges that went in and yet the ref booked every tackle. The crossley booking summed up his performance. He reacted to the crowd jeers when he changed the side to take the kick from. No warning about time wasting or anything just a yellow card. He was a complete joke to football and shouldn't be allowed to ref again. When will the FA start to take action against guys like this who are obviously way out of their depth at handling a game at this level.
  21. I think regionalised leagues is the way forward - Makes absolutely no sense in teams like torquay playing darlington. They should have 3 main divisons - Premier , championship and league 1 as is. Then league 2 and the premier blue square regionalised. Under the Blue square every other league is regionalised already so it is only a matter a joining up the last 2 leagues. Less travel , bigger crowds which will lead to more money for the clubs. Smaller league clubs are struggling and the Football league do very little to help. As for the question about 4 southern teams getting relegated from league 1 then do what they did previously. The 4 nearest geographical teams (ie usually the midland teams) change to which ever north or south to equal them out. It worked perfectly ok before.
  22. i would think if they accept an offer for Taylor they will have Philips lined up. I think they can still sign players on loan after today ?
  23. We have mobile phones today - Plus all this will have been sorted already !!
  24. i seem to remember many years ago playing Watford one Tuesday night and they had a lot of injuries. Threw a young 16 year old goalie in called Pat Jennings . Don't know if it was his debut or not but somebody may remember !! He played a blinder .
  25. Plus i would try and negotiate a price to cover the shortfall on the land we are selling at BP. It was only the council's ridiculous rejections that caused such a lengthy delay and reduced land values as a result. Time for some tough negotiating me thinks.
