  7. Impressive report from the Accie Stan website Accrington Stanley FC Youth 1 - 1 Oldham Athletic FC Youth Within 5 minutes of the start it was clear that the young Latics had brought their usual controlled, disciplined game and Stanley had overcome their awful display of the previous week. Both sides settled down to play some excellent football and it was evident from the kick off that Ryan Hopper, in his first start was relishing the prospect of facing the Club that released him at the end of last season. Ably supported in the midfield by Adam Stockdale who had a game to forget against his former side the previous week. Stanley's youngsters were stringing their passes together well and the movement was excellent but Oldham were playing equally as well and could have taken the lead on 15 minutes when the corner was miscued wide of the Stanley upright. The play was end to end as expected and really pleasing on the eye for the spectators, Stanley carving out a real chance on the half hour when a well worked move ended with Hopper hitting the target but lacking power, the goalkeeper gathering the ball comfortably. Oldhams youngsters continued to counter attack with pace and caused problems for the Stanley defenders, one move bringing a low diving save from Josh O'Connel to force a corner. With 3 minutes to the interval Josh O'Connel was called into action again when a free header was saved between his legs before securing the ball in his hands. The young Reds immediately broke themselves and almost capitalised on a slip but the ball went agonisingly wide of the target before the half time whistle signalled the break. HT 0 - 0 For all the pressing, movement and passing in the first 45 minutes which provided a tremendous advert for youth football a controversial refereeing decision after 2 minutes of the restart saw Oldham take the lead. What appeared to be a rash challenge on Johnny Evans went unpunished and the young Latics scythed through the Stanley defence to edge them into the lead 0 - 1. The young Reds responded magnificently and within minutes Johnny Evans was drilling a freekick goalwards, the keeper palming over for a corner. The Reds continued to stay on the front foot and press the Latics, playing with confidence and forcing Oldham into niggly fouls. On 50 minutes Antony Field cut inside but the end product was to drive the ball wide of the nearside upright when a cross drilled into the area would have been a better option. Oliver Holden, up for a set play was then thwarted, his shot safely into the arms of the visiting keeper. The rewards for their hard work in the second half paid off for Stanley when on 55 minutes Jamie Larner held off a challenge before homing in on goal and driving the ball into the net to open his account for the season. 1 - 1 Phil Hackney made his first change on the hour replacing Connor Hobson with Matthew Lawler to provide more power up front. Within minutes Lawler had worked the ball forward and following a defensive mistake Johnny Evans saw his long range lofted pass sail over the visitors crossbar. The game ebbed and flowed and on 75 minutes Josh O'Connel was again brought into action with a great save, forcing the ball over the bar, and then as the game switched to the Oldham goalmouth Karl Dailey saw his header power over. The second change for Stanley saw Marcus Carver replace goalscorer Jamie Larner on 80 minutes and as the game continued to see chances squandered for both sides Phil Hackney gave a debut to schoolboy Alex McPolin who had done well in preseason games. As the game edged towards the final whistle the young Reds went for the jugular and were desperately unlucky not to snatch all three points, Marcus Carver blazing over when clear on goal and then his long range pile driver being palmed to safety. This was a fair result for both sides and without doubt a fantastic advert for youth football, both sides deserving credit for their enterprising play. The game leaves the Stanley with a full set of results in their three games and 4 points, but more pleasingly the performance and response was tremendous following the Burnley game and a great team effort. 8. Excellent game at Clitheroe today Accie Stan 1 Latics 1 Latics always looked good in first half but where unable to break a resoloute Stanley defence down. Tony Philliskirk's half time rocket saw the lads come out of the blocks blazing and they scored very shortly after the restart and could have added a second soon after. Accie came back into it slowly and scored after about 70 mins when a half the length of the field weaving run by the #8. Interesting points - the pitch had not been mown and there where only the faintest of lines on the pitch (Clitheroe played Mossley on wed night) as the Clitheroe groundsman refuses to do anything for Stanley. Also Accie produced a creditable 8 page full colour programme for the game.
  9. And bring back the green shirt and change dicko's number to 13? I always was a sucker for Marino in the aquamarine
  10. exactly ackey - keep the numbers down, sell out quick. Maybe a small re-order then bring in the next occasion shirt. How about the next one - Scottish Marinio? (OK José Mário dos Santos Félix Mourinho) I would also say do a new badge every three months or so.
  11. Aye but you create demand and footfall in the shop if you have to go for new gear before it sells out. There is no point in ordering 1000 and having them hang around in the shop for months. Look at the amusement/derision over the frank bunn shirts that where sat gathering dust. Its better to keep stock fresh. You have to give customers a reason to go into the shop regularily.
  12. keep the numbers low and have a new shirt every couple of weeks
  13. ? Squad: Brill, M'voto, Holdsworth, Hazell, Jones, Smalley, Kelly, Furman, Feeney, Taylor, Lee, Stephens, Gerrard, Black, Millar, Dikaba, Bembo, McDonald, Tounkara.
  14. Saturday 10.30 KO Latics youth are at Clitheroe playing Accrinton Youth. About a hour from Clitheroe to Latics so a good double header
  15. Kelly struggled all game till he was withdrawn. Purdie is starting to look the player we though we got last season.
  16. Has anyone the contact email address for the Oldham Chronicle sports department?. Ive been on the OEC website and there is only a generic contact email form.
