  1. Latics 4-0 Cheltenham Hughes 5555 When you think your team is doing well, they usually feck it up .... should have said 0-1 !!
  2. Spent the period from Jan-July wondering how good Hughes and Allesandra could be together. The likes of Davies and O'Grady must be concerned!
  3. Would you take a £6k a week pay cut? Cover for Whittaker?
  4. Clearly, if th outcome is as reported on this post, it's an awful situation and I would agree with every word said. I think we need fuller information before condemning Leeds for this though.
  5. If we have uneartherd a guy who genuinely knows how to slide the diagonal ball in to the strikers, ghost it late in to the area Scholes style or just do more than pass it sideways, we are indeed very lucky. I thought our midfield, despite usually having four decent players in it, was our nemesis last season, with its distinct failure to regularly deliver the above. Most on here gave Allott 'player of the season' for his attitude. Put the blue shirt on my back and you'd get the attitude out of me too. I have no problem with Allott at all, but he was part of a faltering midfield operation. This season we may just have made a single change that buys us the balance needed. Very early days, but I can see us being genuine contenders.
  6. 6/1 for promotion at totesport looks excellent value.
  7. Did this guy really post a subscription only Leeds United link on a Latics web site? Any takers?
  8. I wouldn't expect Oldham to dominate at Elland Road, but to get two up (after having two disallowed) and then defend safely is the classic away performance of genuine contenders. You're right, it is early days, but do Leeds really have a stronger squad than last season? Looks to me like you're strength in depth has diminished a little during the summer. Not studied it closely, and you'll know better than me, but the likes of Kandol, Constantine and Elding have gone for starters. Equally for Leicester, sat in third place on the back of a win and a draw, I don't think they will find it easy to break down League One defences and they've only managed to score one goal in 180 minutes against the side that came up via the play-offs - 70 of those minutes against 10 men. As Latics fans know better than most, just because you've played in the Premiership in the past doesn't mean you have a God given superiority over any other side in the division that you currently sit in. The other sides are currently your equals. By the way, Oldham defended appallingly last week. And won 4-3. Toodle pip.

    "FFS" Poll

Ok, here's my call on it: 1) It would have been advisable to tape off a third of the small section of the RRE, putting bigger space between supporters - this is an easy fix going forwards and would cost about £1.29 for the tape from B&Q. Few visiting teams will bring more than 1,000 fans, so this can be a solution for most games. While the tape wouldn't stop severe trouble, it would significantly reduce the risk of agro by allowing a wider segregation. I would hope Greater Manchester Police, who charge significantly for their services in the ground, are capable of policing this divide. 2) Back in the days of terraces, everybody knew where the pockets of "swearing culture" were in football grounds. Usually behind the goal or near visiting supporters. There are enough seats in the ground to easily relocate all those supporters who don't like it. The Chaddy "Family Stand" idea is a start. 3) Disabled people at the back? Who the hell had that idea? Time to spend some money on a far better facility for disabled supporters. People will always stand for parts of the game whatever laws and stewards tell us. Sorry to the bloke in the wheelchair if I block your view when 20 rows in front of me are on their feet. 4) Let's not forget, many Millwall followers are scumbags and the situation seen last week is unlikely to be a regular occurrence. 5) The stewarding left a lot to be desired. Telling people half way back to sit down when ten rows in front of them are still on their feet is ridiculous. Telling home supporters to sit down while allowing visitors to do what the hell they like unchecked is also going to lose respect. I am still happy to sit with my 10 year old behind the goal in the RRE, despite some of the happenings of last week. We do now have an agreed escape plan should severe trouble ever arise though!
  10. Could I trouble you for tonight's lottery numbers please.
  11. Be daring. Close the Chaddy end and pack the RRE !! Here's a case for some sensible ticket pricing: £12 for adults; £10 for season ticket holders (including Morecambe ones); £5 for concessions; free for kids. Issue a voucher at the turnstile for £40 off the price of a season ticket (as we'll have already played a couple of home games by then).
  12. Seem to remember him having a nightmare at left back a couple of seasons back. I don't like playing centre halfs at full back (although would consider it if we re-signed Micah Richards or picked up Wes Brown on a free). Lomax should play if fit. Black is the best alternative. We have a decent sized squad, but in the knowledge that Eardley will be called up by the Welshies on regular occasions, we could do with another "natural" full-back in the squad who can give us both the defensive know-how and attacking threat that any good full-back is capable of.
  13. I'd stick with Hazell on last season's form (and he might scare them with another stunning goal). Personally I think 4-4-2 is best for Latics, so would play Alessandra up front with Hughes. I really do think that this is THE strike duo for Latics this season. All toes being fit etc! In midfield, Whittaker probably shades it for me ahead of Maher, although this may well be the sort of game that Maher is perfect for. So a decent call to include him. On the right, I'd give strong consideration to Smalley over Lidds who may be tired after his minute on the pitch at Spotland.
  14. I always thought Great Britain (or Gran Britannia ?) was the Roman name for the largest island that formed the British Isles. It just happens to have England, Wales and that other bit at the top on it.
  15. Well, here in the North Midlands (Royton) it's persisting it down at 6.45am. The game in the small town north of Wolverhampton (Rochdale, to be precise) must be in doubt because: 1) Rochdale's pitch has drainage as bad as my back garden 2) It has been exacerbated by the tears of Dale fans since their 27th May defeat at Wembley, a posh ground somewhere in Southern France 3) Rochdale do have more games called off than any other team
  16. Well, it's certainly in the North of England. And being to the West of the Pennines, I'd say it's in the west half of England too. Nearer Liverpool than Hull anyway. So a bit north and a bit west is North West in my book. Unless I'm suddenly going to develop a brummie accent.
  17. Or to discuss alternative options that may not have been properly considered? Or could be implemented next season? Interestingly, the results of the poll at this stage seem to support the clubs position or be prepared to wave goodbye to income from particularly large followings and don't support my notion that perhaps RRE fans should be left undisturbed and those in the Chaddy should be displaced. So be it. You rarely get people killing debate in issues like "Sheridan's named the team, so the club have made their decision, so let's not talk about it".
  18. My apologies for being crazy enough to debate something on a message board. I will retire with tail between legs.
  19. Agree with most of this, but did McDonald and Allott ever really gel? Last season's midfield was a quality 'pass it sideways or backwards but get a nosebleed if you get forward'. Jarrett made a difference towards the end of the season, but even he was extraordinarily inconsistent. For an hour yesterday we were no different.
  20. Fair point, although RRE season ticket holders will have to be displaced under current plans - while the difference is that they were warned before they bought, there seem to be more of them!
