  1. Indeed, the best manager on the planet, who has just taken over arguably the most prestigious club in the world, didn't play professional football.
  2. Another plus point I can envisage, with him having links to City we might just perhaps start getting some decent young players on loan from our rich neighbours.
  3. Thinking about it I'd take Dickov over Crossley. I stated last week if Gannon isn't getting it then I'd take Crossley. Crossley's is a smart guy, and would bring a different approach to managing than we've seen recently. But he's such a bland character, I just can't imagine him inspiring the young players to work hard, I could see him being walked over. I'm not sure he could inspire players to join us either. Dickov, as been mentioned is a leader, he'll put people in their places and command the respect of the players. With this being his first venture into managing he won't have "mates" or "favourites" and I can see him wanting to make a name for himself and taking us very seriously. The only thing I worried about is his tactical noose, he's a striker so hopefully he'll understand the need for more attacking play, but it's the other aspects which I have my reservations about.
  4. I don't see any where else reporting that he's set to become "player manager". And when it comes to lower league coverage Sky really don't care.
  5. I should probably take RoyleArmy off ignore 'cause I always end up reading his posts anyway.
  6. I'm not believing it. I think it's needless scaremongering.
  7. Crossley's a pretty smart guy, that's one thing he has over the other candidates. I just dunno why everyone assumes it's Crossley...'cause he's out of the country and he liked Fleming and Fleming is back today? I still think Gray will get it, he too is on holiday and would explain why he hasn't followed Penney out of the door.
  8. I can't see beyond Gray now. They way they made a big deal about him applying for the job, no announcement on him leaving his role as assistant. The fact that's it's the easiest appointment to make and perhaps the cheapest. I think it was always in the pipeline that he would stay on as manager this season. Crossley could return in some capacity, but I think Gray will be numero uno next season. I'm not bothered about Gray getting the job, but I'm píssed off at Gannon not getting it.
  9. We're not hiring Jim, he's in the country. :'( I reckon it's Martin Gray then.
  10. If Gannon has knocked us back TTA need to get in their cars, drive to the Don Valley stadium, get on their knees and please with Uncle Ronnie to come back.
  11. Happy now Bob? http://www.oldhamathletic.co.uk/page/NewsU...2062708,00.html
  12. So much for Capello picking players who are playing regularly and are in form. Adam Johnson is keeping SWP out of the City team. Heskey is a bench warmer at Villa. Yet our second most in form player is waved off. If any striker should have been sweating on his place (other than Heskey) it should have been Defoe. No goals in his final 12 Premiership games as well as being injured for a period.
  13. I reckon Bent will retire from international. He can't do anything more to get into the England squad. In 2006 he was the top scoring English striker and was left out for a 17 year old with no Premiership experience. This season he's the 3rd top scorer in the Premiership and has been omitted for a fat guy who scored 3 times. We don't need Heskey, we have Peter Crouch to be the big awkward freak these days, and he scores. Heskey will contribute nothing. Bent just hasn't been given a fair crack of the whip and in both World Cup seasons he's come up trumps in the Premiership. If he hasn't been picked these two times around when he's prime, it's unlikely he'll make the squad the next time. He should just forget about England and concentrate on his club, no point travelling half way around Europe in the qualifiers, just to sit on the bench and miss out in the finals.
  14. Both Baines and Walcott played themselves out of the squad with their performances against Mexico and Japan (for Walcott). Just seeing Baines against Mexico confirmed to me that international level is a stretch too far for him. He looked shakey no composure and made some bad decisions. After that he didn't even need to see Warnock to know he's a better option. Glad to see me Capello are on the same wavelength when it comes to Walcott, no end product, no conviction. SWP all the way.
  15. BB80s point is, if you don't give Penney credit for playing reserves, because as you say "his hand was forced" then surely you have to accept that given these injuries our squad sustained; last season's results weren't entirely Penney's fault. Injuries dictated that for a lot of the season we weren't playing a full strength team. You're all quick to bash Penney for last season, blaming it on a lack of competence and discarding the fact we had a lot of injuries, but when it comes to giving Penney an ounce of credit for choosing to play a young reserve player, you're quick to acknowledge the fact he had no other option but to play reserves because of these injuries.
