  1. What annoys me is the the audio commentary has only worked for 1 out of 3 games so far this season. If this game is unavailable to me I will be asking for a refund for the month. It's hard enough living in a foreign country and trying to keep up with Latics, but when the main source of viewing and listening pleasure is off line or not working properly it is very annoying. Latics World was perfect for me. Never let me down and always worked. Latics Player so far has found to be wanting in many areas. I'm even getting withdrawl symptoms from Gord n Roy!
  2. Well it is £2.6 million a year extra. Over a 4 year deal thats £10.4 million. Even if your a millionaire, you'd be pretty daft to turn that kind of money down. Though fair play to JT, he's stayed with Chelsea and not chased the money safe in the knowladge that he will be a very rich man for the rest of natural life. As for Taylor, I'd hate to speculate what he's on but I'd hazard a guess that Leeds would be tripling his wages at the very least. Its only a short carreer and it can be cut even shorter with one bad tackle so in fairness to him (and all lower league players) they have to look after themselves first.
  3. Would disagree. Better teams than us: Leeds, Huddersfield, Charlton. These three teams should be the teams that are challaging for automatic barring some catastrophie. Everyone else is more than capable of beating each other and we are well in there with that group. Obviously you've got your relegation fodder, but the rest of us should all be eyeing a place in the play-offs. This league is wide open.
  4. Form would indicate mid-table, but looking through the teams in the division I just can't see 8 teams who are better than us. Maybe Southampton if they didn't have a 10 point deduction. Huddersfield and Leeds have the big bucks, Charlton have good support and will be looking to do a Leicester, Norwich will struggle to recover from their opening day mawling, whilst Colchester look like the suprise team by going on a good early run (but will it last?), MK Dons will do okay under Ince and Millwall will be there or there abouts along with Southend and ourselves. When you look at it in the true light of day, I honestly believe that this division is weaker than last seasons.
  5. Never a truer word said. As for who I think will be promoted/relegated/Play Off's:- I'll opt for 1. Leeds 2. Charlton 3. Huddersfield 4. Colchester 5. MK Dons 6. Oldham 21. Norwich (How funny would that be) 22. Tranmere (Not as funny as that) 23. Wycombe 24. Stockport
  6. There is a young Iraqi boy walking around Baghdad with a Latics top on after my visit in 2007. The strangest place I've seen a Latics shirt was a fellow rider of the Tower of Terror at Disney MGM Studios, Florida back in 2001.
  7. Speaking as a qualified ref, I have a degree of sympathy for the guy even though I didn't attend. It was probably his first game of the season (in the middle at least) and just like players he will still have a bit of rustiness. However if he is making the same mistakes week in week out, then he will eventually get pulled. It's just unfortunate that in situations like that, it takes 4 or 5 teams to suffer.
  8. All time: Earl Barrett Richard Jobson Recent Times: Clint Hill Fitz Hall
  9. Think maybe people should lay off the guy. I see where he's coming from. If we get off to a bad start then with our defensive frailties we could be in a bit of a scrap. People have to remember that whilst we have made additions and improvments to our squad so has every other side in the league. The one thing I do believe is that our first day opponents will struggle this season and so it is imperative that we beat them and get off to a good start with so many away trips down south in the opening few weeks of the season. Overall we'll be okay, we won't set the world alight THIS season, but I can't see us struggling either. But football is a funny old game (I've heard that before somewhere) and you never know, this time next year we could be celabrating a promotion or wondering how it's all gone wrong.
  10. As it stands I think we will finish anywhere between 17th and 7th, if we can improve the defence then I'd say anywhere between 3rd and 10th.
  11. Top 6 is very optamistic as it stands. If we can some solid defensive players then we have the makings of a very good side for this league. Everyone will (as always) be capable of beating everyone else. It's those who perform on the most consitent basis that will get promoted come next May and unfortunatley we don't have the players in defence who are consistent enough. We haven't really changed anything from last season's defence (which was very poor). We still have 3 of the back 4 and Jacobson (who looks pretty decent) will not be the answer. DP need to bring in another keeper and two centre havles and possibly another left back as cover for Jacobson. At this point in time I would not be unhappy if Hazell and Lomax we're shown the door, I don't think they are up to the standard and I'm still undecided on Gregan. Of course I understand it's too late to be making major changes to the defence now and I just hope that at the very least we sign another centre back before the Stockport game, to at least give us some options.
  12. Game finished 2-4 to Blackpool. Costly mistakes at the back......AGAIN!
  13. I feel Dave Penny has done a good job in his signings so far (especially in the attacking area of the team), but I do have major concerns with our defence. Essentially the only change made to last seasons defence is Brill and Jacobson and I don't believe that the signing of another centre halve will be the soloution. Its pretty worrying, Hazell's confidence seems to be shot and Gregan is not the player he was two years ago, Eardley's future is unclear and you have to wonder if he is fully committed, Lomax is prone to costly mistakes, Holdsworth is a man who wants to play centre mid and was only ever decent at full back and I personally have no confidence in Brill at all (which is probably a bit unfair on the lad, but its just the way I feel). If we are to push for a top 6 spot then we need to bring defensive re-enforcements ASAP. As it stands I can only see it being a season of mid table frustration for us.
  14. The one thing that may play into our hands is that Richards and Hughes don't get along (from what I've heard). The question is, is Hughes the sort of manager to let personallity clashes get in the way of making footballing decisons
  15. Exactly!!! O'Grady was playing against HYDE (Blue Square North). Byfield was playing against MIDDLESBOROUGH (Coca-cola Championship and till recently establised Premier League side). I'm not being funny but I know some decent sunday league players who could put in a decent performance against Hyde United.
  16. Why is it saying that there is no commentry available for the Boro game on the OS? I quite sure kick off was 19:45.
  17. Anybody else think we might stand a good chance of winning tonight if Southgate plays Seb Hines!!!
  18. I went with Whittaker in behind as it would absolve him of a lot of defensive duties, if he can find space in and around the area then we know he has a decent shot on him. He reminds me of Lampard, in the fact that to get the best out of him he needs to play in a 3 man central midfield. I'd leave Furman playing a more deeper role as he would be the link between defence and attack with Worthington (maybe even Holdworth) as a protecter of the back 4. Jacobson and Eardley would be the outlet for Furman and would get forward and support the attack. Having spoken to a few Huddersfield fans, its seems our new signing Parker likes to drift wide (he also played in a 3 man attack at Blackpool) and we know Taylor starts wide but drifts inside so it would be intresting to see these two play up front with Abbott as target man coming short and playing with his back to goal. It won't happen though! 4-4-2 is tried and tested and for some reason a few lower league players struggle to adapt to a change from 4-4-2. I honestly think playing this 4-3-3 formation would get us a lot of goals, though we would almost certainly need to buy a solid pacey centre halve because we would be exposed to swift counters. But I'd happily accept a return to the 'we'll score one more than you' days.
  19. Has anybody seen on the BBC website the link to the Milk Cup about to get underway in Northern Ireland? It is a youth tournement that attracts clubs from all over the world. I noticed one of the teams competing in this years tournement was Swindon Town. This got me thinking, wouldn't it be great to see a Latics youth team competing against some of the best teams from around the globe. We seem to have a strong youth team so I can only see it as being benifical to the club if we could enter a team into next years tournement. Here's a link to the site. http://www.bbc.co.uk/northernireland/milkcup/about.shtml and the teams competing http://www.bbc.co.uk/northernireland/milkcup/map/index.shtml
  20. I'd personally love to see this team: -----------------------Brill---------------------- Eardley-----Hazell------Gregan-----Jacobson -----------Furman---------Worthington------- -------------------Whittaker------------------- Parker------------Abbott---------------Taylor
  21. I think we were a little lucky there, but then again how many times did United get lucky against us all those years ago? Need to keep Tolsen off (he's awful) and hopefully Rhodes can have a good game and we might stand a chance against a very good Bolton.
  22. Looks good for us getting to the final with United losing. They now need to win by two clear goals over Oldham to go through.
  23. I was hoping the same back in 1994. Somethings never change. Bolton, looked good in their match against Blackburn, though I think Blackburn are quite poor. As I speak Sharpe has scored to put United 1 up against City and we got to see the Sharpy shuffle.
  24. Haha......He'd put in more tackles then Casper!
  25. Finished 3-0. Great start from the lads but Rhodes looks dogey in goal. Lids has looked class alongwith Dux.
