I didn't say he was virtue signalling, which is a phrase that's wracked with problem in itself - it's a lazy put-down. I think Mullin expressed a geniune conviction in response to the Tories fucking us, over and over. I also think that the boot was not to change anyones mind, but it's was to show solidarity in a way that many of us cannot. Support the Miners/Dockers/Strikes etc would have been similar a tone back in the 80's, albeit with less swears - but I get his idea, and I support it.

I said earlier that the poppy was a similar thing to your understanding of Virtue Signalling, or Only Saying That To Make Yourself Look Good. I said the poppy, not wearing of the poppy. The T-shirts, van stickers, caravan decals, painting of walls, decorations etc are almost certainly used To Make Yourself Look Good. Wearing a poppy should be a symbol of remembrance - should be and indeed was, but in recent decades has been politicised and commercialised and hijacked to become somthing to Make Yourself Look Good.
